2012 Chevrolet Sonic LTZ: RideLust Review
One ride in his dad’s 265 horsepower Caterham R500 is all it takes to turn this kid into a lifelong junkie. I can guarantee he’s already borrowed dad’s tools to drop the motor from the lawn mower into his Little Red Wagon. You’re never too young to learn how to use a plasma torch, a mig welder and a Sawzall, if you ask me.
It’s good to know that dads everywhere are raising the next generation of hoons. If you’ve got kids, or nieces and nephews, take them for a top-down ride at speed. Teach them how to drive a manual transmission, and (eventually) how to rev-match on the downshift. Teach them to brake in a straight line, and to get on the gas at the apex. These kids are our best defense against a future filled with boring, slushbox-equipped hybrids, so let’s get out there and teach them that driving can be fun.
I really hope this is how my 2 year old will enjoy my hooning it up in about another 2 to 3 years – assuming Mom’s not in the car, of course.
Mark, trust me – the answer is “yes”.
