Garmin has announced a voluntary recall of nüvi personal navigation units to replace a battery that could potentially overheat, causing a fire risk. Approximately 1.25 million Garmin nüvi devices are affected by the recall, which covers models 200W, 250W, 260W and all 7 series models. To see if yours is listed, Garmin has set up a recall website that allows you to enter the serial number of your particular unit. Only units manufactured within a specific time frame are subject to recall.

If you have one of the defective units, Garmin will replace the battery and insert a spacer prior to returning the unit to the consumer. Garmin will not replace the units, and Garmin advises customers against attempting a battery replacement on their own.
