As a driving instructor one of the most common questions I’m asked is to demonstrate heel and toe braking to my students whose cars are equipped with manual transmissions. The idea behind the maneuver is to sync the revs of the engine with your shift when downshifting and braking into a corner. It’s not a super difficult task, but it definitely does take some practice to master. Hooked on Driving is a track organization whose main focus is to teach their participants how to drive safely in a fun, fast environment and because of this they’ve put together this wonderful video explaining the proper technique for heel/toe shifting. Click through for the video and be prepared to learn a little something.
