Last week, an official enough looking image of the new four-door Aston Martin Rapide cropped up on the web, surprising us well ahead of its anticipated debut. This week, the Rapide is adding to its portfolio with a new rear image, showing off some sleek, streamlined British skin. Hyped as the heavyweight contender slated to fight the Porsche Panamera for the Four-Door Supercar of the World title, if these preliminary photos are indeed accurate illustration of the forthcoming Aston Martin Rapide, then the Porsche Panamera was just K.O.’d in the first round.
Aesthetically speaking, both the Rapide and Panamera seem to have incorporated a wagon-like element into their sedan frame, but unlike the Panamera, the Rapide appears to have done so without managing to assume a phallic-like shape. Although we don’t have raw stats yet, many expect the Aston Martin Rapide to be powered by a 6.0L V12 capable of producing 500bhp and 420 lb-ft of torque. If those initial conjectures turn out to be correct, not only will the Rapide one-up the Panamera in the design department, the Rapide’s 500 horsepower 12-banger will smoke the Panamera’s 520-hp twin turbo right off the track.
