At over 40 years old the Porsche 917 has stood the test of time incredibly well. It dominated LeMans in 1970 and 1971 and pushed the envelope of performance to a level beyond what people thought possible. The numbers by themselves are staggering; a 5-liter flat-12 engine, capable of a 0-62 mph time of 2.3 seconds, 0–124 mph in 5.3 seconds, and a top speed of over 240 mph. This was not only one of Porsche’s finest race cars, but one of the most frightening to drive. Faster, Farther tells the story of the 917 and how Porsche does not live to build race cars, but builds race cars to live.
