F-22 Raptor Demo is simply amazing!

The F-22 Raptor is an advanced tactical fighter that was conceived to replace America’s aging F-15 Strike Eagle. It utilizes stealth technology, and to date is the worlds most technically advanced air superiority fighter. Built by Lockheed Martin, the F-22 is a master of maneuverability, doing things once thought to be impossible by an aircraft. Carrying the majority of its weaponry in internal bays located in the aircraft’s underbelly, the Raptor was designed to carry six compressed carriage medium range missiles and two short range missiles. Watching the aircraft maneuver in the ways in which it does is simply astonishing, especially when you consider that this machine costs about $339 million per aircraft, that’s over 300 Bugatti Veyron’s ladies and gentlemen. With the capability to basically turn while in a flat spin, the F-22 is almost something more suited to a science fiction movie than to our own military. Simply put, this is one combat aircraft that I am very glad is on our side.

So, does this basically mean that Mav wouldn’t have lost control, that he wouldn’t have headed out to sea, and that Goose wouldn’t have died? He would have never lost control? Well, then, you better write a new ending for the story with Goose never hitting the canopy and Mav never having had the personal crisis….damn, you’ve got your work cut out for you now! Good luck with that, let me know how it turns out! STORY WRECKER……”He’s in a flat spin, he’s headed out to sea” – what will you have Iceman saying now instead? Mr. Smarty Pants…..

Boooring! First off, I’m wondering why anyone is building machines like this, designed for a kind of warfare that no longer exists. If the Taliban start arming with weapons like this then it would make more sense. But they don’t and won’t. The world has changed and the weapons system should reflect that change. But, since some people are convinced we need to spend billions on developing instantly obsolete weapons, go ahead and build a few to pacify the hawks who think Red Dawn was a documentary. Then take the rest of the money and put it into something useful for the citizens. These are weapons system designed with a Cold War mentality in an age of guerrilla/terrorist warfare.

As for the flying itself, it was all pretty standard airshow theatrics. What would have been really impressive is if this budget bloating toy had performed Pugachev’s Cobra maneuver with full ordnance. Now that’s flying!

Amazing what these planes can do now days! Supposedly the Eurofighter typhoon is slightly more agile then this one. Which is pretty wild. But two points, one this was not designed for dog fighting. It’s key ability is stealth and speed. Both of which it does superbly. It can super-cruise (cruise faster than Mach 1) and it will hit a target before they can put down their coffee cup. But I agree with wcleve as far as a complete waste of money. In this day and age, no one dog fights. UAV’s and guided missles are the future. The money would be better spent on UAVs so people don’t put their life on line, and the aircraft will be 10 times more agile since you don’t have the human in the cockpit. No G forces to worry about, or life saving equipment, less weight. Everything is better without a pilot on board. Pretty nice piece of equipment, just doesn’t make sense.
