Like Mel Brooks said, “It’s good to be the king”, and he wasn’t kidding as Eric Clapton apparently knows. When you’re considered to be one of the best guitarists to have ever roamed the earth, and have perfected your craft over the last 40 years people tend to take notice. Apparently now the man who is nicknamed “Slowhand” wants to pick up the pace a little bit by way of a Ferrari V12. You see Mr. Clapton has an affinity for red Italian sports cars that have a prancing horse adorning the hood. Their newest one however didn’t make the right music so he’s requested something off the special menu.
Released earlier this year the Ferrari 458 Italia is one amazing machine with one small problem. You see it’s powered by a 4.5 Liter V8 engine that delivers 570 HP and well… that’s just not enough for Mr. Clapton. In a recent interview with Quattroruote Magazine Clapton said while he loved the new 458 Italia, it simply didn’t make the right music with a V8 engine.
“I love the sound of Ferraris and I, as a musician, can confirm that these engines deliver proper music. I have to say that my weak point is the 12-cylinders’ music.”
So with that being said he asked Ferrari if they could build him one with the 6.0 liter, 620 hp V12 from the Ferrari 599 GTB. Even Ferrari isn’t going to say no to a rock icon so that’s exactly what they’re doing.
So yea… it’s good to be the king.
