It was conceived by Edsel Ford to commemorate the United States’ participation in the 1972 Summer Olympics and was only built for the 1972 model year. It sports a Mach 1 grille, color-keyed body accessories, color-keyed interior, and patriotic stripes and decals. The rear is a peg-leg Ford 9″, the engine a 351 Cleveland Cobra Jet producing 266 hp and 301 lb-ft of torque through a C6 automatic transmission. This is the 1972 Ford Mustang Sprint Edition and in total only 9,383 Sportroofs, coupes and convertibles were produced making this an extremely rare car. Performance numbers were also good for the time especially when equipped with the 351 Cobra Jet. 60 mph came up in around 7-seconds with the quarter mile being run in just over 15 seconds. The car you see here is currently for sale on eBay and is one of the nicest examples we’ve ever seen. The seller has also provided a pretty good video about the car, so make sure to click through and check it out.
