YES!!! Another movie with muscle cars, strippers, guns and police chases… PERFECT! Coming out November 24 and starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Billy-Bob Thorton, “Faster” is a movie that looks like it will deliver the automotive goods. We’ve got an old 1970 Chevelle SS, a 1966 GTO, police cars and a few totaled Ferrari’s which means it has all the makings of becoming a good cult classic. The premise of the movie is simple. Our main character (Dwayne Johnson) was in prison due to a botched bank robbery where his brother was killed. Once released from the big house however Johnson grabs the keys to his old Chevelle and proceeds to wreak havoc on the guys that got his brother killed. From the looks of the teaser trailer “Faster” looks like it is going to be a great way to kick off the fall movie season. Now we just have to wait for the full trailer to come out to gain more insight into what’s really going to happen.

It is not a 1970 Chevelle SS! I own an original 70 SS Chevelle. The tail lights are wrong for the 1970. It might be a Malibu modified.

    It’s a 71 SS…

  3. GS says:

It is a 71 or 72 with a 1970 chevelle front end. With all the money in the industry you think they would get such a classic car right… lame

  4. Goose says:

Why would they use a mix matched Chevelle ? I know it doesn’t really matter to most but the audience that this movie seems to be directed toward will notice and will not like it. I own a 71 Chevelle and this bugs the hell out of me.

  5. Grilk says:

I agree with Goose, The car has a 70 nose and 71-72 rear bumper. It looks stupid. I noticed that they did not screw with the look of the GTO. What a bunch of assclowns!

70 front end, SS in the middle of the grill, and the frickin round taillights – did they honestly believe that nobody would notice? Not sure about the front turn signal lenses, either – couldn’t tell if they were white, but they could have been white with yellow bulbs (also a goof). Rocker panel chrome? Couldn’t see any. Nice job, Hollywood….

CVS featured two versions of the flat black-and-white striped ‘71 Chevelle that served as Johnson’s hero ride. “But, wait!” you’re saying, “That’s a ‘70. Look at the headlights!” Believe it or not, a conscious decision was made by the prop department to use ‘71 and ‘72 Chevelles with reproduction ‘70 headlights and grilles as to not damage or destroy any of the considerably more valuable 1970 models.

The SS used is a make up of Hollywood parts, different gallery pictures show the cars rear axle as a 10 bolt.. true chevy guys know what makes up a true big block SS, with out a 12 bolt dif this would make it a plain jane chevelle with SS badging and big hood, I have owned both years, 70 and 71, same color combo, only the firewall data plate will tell the truth

“We’ve got an old 1970 Chevelle SS, a 1966 GTO”

    the goat is a 1967, NOT ’66

they use a 1970 chevelle and put a 1971 ss bumper/tail lights on it because the director didn’t like the square tail lights that GM put on the 70 compared to the later models. It’s a common change lately, a lot of people are opting for the quad-quad rather than the quad-dual, and I personally like the round tail lights over the rectangle ones. ;)

Also, as to the directors not wanting to destroy the classic cars, I wish it were true but they blew up one in fast and furious 4, 2 in the other guys, and destroyed another here, =( I just wish they would stop.

Did any of you watch the movie? The car was not owned by DJ’s character prior to his inprisonment. The car was a hook up by a prison buddy. DJ picked up the car from the junk yard. It makes since that it would be a mixed bag of tricks. I’m not a chevelle expert, but, my father had a factory ’72 475hp convertible SS when I was a kid (1977-78). I noticed the mixed parts when watching the movie, but, thought it made sense due to the car coming out of the junk yard. Still cool stuff. The GTO was awesome.

That is the Chevelle Chevy should have made; 70 headlights and 71/72 taillights.
    Get over it girls

The car is a 71 and there is also a 72 twin, both with 70 front ends. I know this to be a fact because I just purchased the 71 model from the production company.
