Back in the 1970’s Dodge said to hell with being politically correct and put out some trucks that were designated as “Adult Toys” and marketed to a mostly male audience. They had the Little Red Express and Warlock pick-up trucks, the Dodge “Macho” Power Wagon and Ramchargers and the pimp-tastic Street Van. Back then Dodge knew that these were never going to be big sellers but they did know that they could market the crap out of them to get people interested in the other vehicles in their line-up.
Now it seems that Dodge is taking some notes out of the old playbook because there are rumors that they will be offering a macho-ized minivan known as the “Man Van”. Odds are “Man Van” will have a sportier exterior, larger wheels, brakes and some interior upgrades to make it appear more sporty. Who knows, maybe they’ll even throw in a sport tuned suspension and AWD. Back in 1998 Dodge actually produced a concept Dodge Caravan R/T (as seen here) and truth be told, it’s actually pretty cool looking. It had what looked to be 20 inch wheels, Brembo brakes, dual exhaust and a hood scoop. More importantly than that though, it had attitude.
I love minivans as I think they are the most useful vehicles on the planet and I’ll tell you straight up that if Chrysler builds one, I’d actually take a look at it. In fact here’s an idea. Hey Dodge… build a Caravan like the one in the picture, cage the son of a bitch and then let me run it in next years One Lap of America. You want attention for your new “Man Van”, well there you go!
