If you weigh 98 pounds, wear taped up glasses and a pocket protector, will women still give you the look when you roll by in your 2011 Camaro? Will the rumble of a 426 horsepower, 6.2 liter V8 be enough for them to forget your lack of person hygiene, good looks or social skills? No, absolutely not (unless we’re talking about pay dates here), but now gear heads with an inner nerd and geeks with an inner car guy have common ground: the GM approved Chevy Camaro desktop PC.
Built by PC Rides, the PC can run any generation of O/S from Windows XP through Windows 7 (though, strangely, doesn’t appear to come with an O/S loaded) and features an Intel Atom N330 Dual Core processor. It will support up to 8GB of RAM, but also seems to ship without any. On the plus side, you get an NVIDIA ION graphics processor, an HDMI out, 2 USB ports in front and another 2 in rear, a super-multi DVD-RW drive and bragging rights to the coolest PC in the office.
The list price is $1,239.99, sans mouse, keyboard, monitor, O/S or RAM, but smart shoppers know to scope out online deals. Street price, which may limit your choice of colors, is less than half the published price. If you absolutely have to have Silver Ice Metallic (as opposed to Victory Red or Black), you may be looking at ponying up the full price.
