The crew at Wired Italy are electrifying a DeLorean in celebration of Back to the Future’s 25th anniversary. And there’s no lightning involved. They’re installing one 90-kilowatt motor and some custom lithium-ion batteries in a mint DeLorean. Why? Well, it’s actually a huge improvement over the original car’s wheezy V6 drive train. The team estimates the electrified DeLorean will be capable of hitting 60 in 4.2 seconds with a range of about 125 miles per charge. Sweet. Two guys from Wired Italy will drive the car from Milan to Rome for the Rome film festival. They’ll stop along the way to attend, you guessed it, Back to the Future movie marathons being held at theaters across the country. Heavy.
