Think municipal budgets are tight over here? From the looks of this photo, they’re even worse on the other side of the pond, where police in Hampshire, England have apparently been forced to embrace pedal cars for patrol.
Actually, the pedal car was built for the British Pedal Car Grand Prix, which the Hampshire Constabulary hope to win this July 11. The car was a joint venture between police and local school students, who spent some 40 hours turning wrenches on the unsafe-at-any-speed-looking contraption. It cost over $1,400 to build, which came as surprise since I can see about $50 worth of scrap metal in the picture. Maybe it’s got a carbon fiber monocoque and baby whale penis upholstery.
