The unfortunate truth is that the majority of people who buy high performance automobiles typically have no concept of how to drive them properly. As a track instructor I’ve seen guys show up with 600 hp super cars, only to wipe them out on lap two of their session. It’s not as uncommon as you may think and for the drivers, it can end up being a frightening experience. Many manufacturers of high performance cars offer up a driving school, but in order to get access to it you have to purchase the right cars. For example, BMW offers their M-school for those who purchase a BMW M-car. Dodge also offers the SRT Experience for those wanting to learn how to master their big HEMI’s. Chevrolet has also offered driving schools, but as with the others, it was only for their best Corvette model – the ZR1.
Now in a move to celebrate the Corvette’s upcoming season in the American LeMans Series, anyone who buys a Corvette – ANY CORVETTE – from now until February 28th, 2011, will receive free tuition to either of the two official Corvette driving schools. They include the Bob Bondurant School of High Performance Driving near Phoenix and the Ron Fellows Performance Driving School at Spring Mountain Motorsports Ranch outside Las Vegas.
“This special offer extends an exclusive piece of the Corvette driving experience to new owners,” says Jim Campbell, U.S. vice president of performance vehicles and motorsports.
