Full grown adult males, plastic ride-on toys made for children, and a very steep hill that’s riddled with dirt, rocks and trees.
Seriously, what could go wrong…
Funny cars, pro-stock and top fuel dragsters all have the ability to literally rattle your chest and give you a massive noise educed headache. Thankfully for us though the guys over at SearchforSpeedTV have set some of our favorite machines to some of the best music out there. They’ve eliminated the need for ear plugs and a defibrillator machine and instead given us a video that will make you want to turn wrenches on whatever lies in your garage.
Apart from the paint itself, your wheels and rims make the biggest statement about your car. In this episode, we learn about how to properly repair and revitalize wheels damaged by “curb rashing,” accidents, and potholes. We’ll also review fitment requirements and other considerations for selecting the perfect tire and wheel combination. - Larry Kosilla, /DRIVE CLEAN Host / AMMONYC.com
By now it’s no secret that Smoking Tire host and Car Show co-host Matt Farah has a pretty good life. Hell, he’s not only driven just about everything under the sun, but he’s been able to establish himself as one of the best automotive authorities around. About a month ago Matt had called me up and asked if I wanted to run the Mojave Mile with him in the Corvette ZR1 you are about to see, but unfortunately I was unable to make it. That however didn’t stop him from going out and running the wheels off of what is the baddest factory Vette’ ever built. Remember now, the Corvette ZR1 has 638 hp, 604 lb-ft of torque and a top end of 205 mph which makes it wickedly quick. If you want to see just how quick through, click through and watch Matt run through the gears as he tackles one of the coolest automotive events around.
It goes without saying that anything that makes 800 hp should be blindingly fast. However there are some caveats to having a super high horsepower machine. For one thing they generally don’t make great daily drivers and secondly, they’re more apt to have a mechanical failure then your typical auto. Recently Matt Farah and Dan Neil of The Car Show tested out Mosler’s new 838 hp twin-turbo V8 powered Raptor, and while blindingly quick, it’s definitely not without its faults. Left alone the 1960 Chevrolet Corvette is one of the most attractive cars ever created. It’s America’s favorite sports car and in its day, was quite a sight to behold on the open road. Time and technology however have passed it by and unfortunately for the old Vette’s from 1953-1962, so have most people. There is one company out there though who decided to go full-tilt with the old dog and by gosh if they didn’t create one of the baddest Corvettes on the planet Earth. Recently Matt Farah got a hold of the 3G Corvette that was lovingly crafted by the boys over at Art Morrison. It took 3200 man hours to build, has an entirely new chassis and perfect 50 / 50 front to rear weight distribution. Combine that with a rancorous V8 that pumps out 538 hp and you’ve got a car that is simply outstanding. Click through for the video and watch as Mr. Matt giggles his way through a tire smoking test drive.
I suppose it should come as no surprise that “The Car Show“, starring Adam Carolla, Matt Farah, Dan Neil and NBA star John Salley is in trouble. First off the producers have no idea how to shoot cars, and second their format is just a wee-bit too long. Apparently someone at SPEED has taken notice of this because Jalopnik is now reporting that not only has Salley been dumped by the wayside, but the shows format has been cut to 30 minutes. Here’s the deal, if they want to make this show work they need to do three simple things. One; let Farah show the producers how to actually shoot cars and help with the script. He’s extremely talented, knows how to capture the audiences attention and really knows his shit, plus he can drive. Two; let Dan Neil keep being Dan Neil. The Ying to Farah’s yang, Dan brings a wonderful sophistication to the show that works beautifully. Third; ditch Carolla, as the guy is simply not funny and his pot-shot jokes at Farah and Salley are childish and humorless. I think they’re on the right track with the current changes, my hope is that they just haven’t come too late.
Carolla, Farah, Salley and Neil… these are the guys that make up The Car Show which airs Wednesday nights on Speed. Basically we have a TV show that is part Top Gear and part Sports Center with a little bit of The View mixed in for good measure. I watched the premier episode last evening and figured I’d throw out some thoughts. Now I know that Speed isn’t going to want to here this, but they’ve got the wrong guy in the drivers seat. Carolla, while knowledgeable about cars, seemed as though he was trying to force the comedy aspect with a couple of quick shots at Farah, a few at Salley and then of course, a fart joke at the end thrown in for good measure. Former NBA star John Salley, while seemingly a nice enough guy, just isn’t a real enthusiast and shouldn’t be on this show. That leaves Farah and Neil.
