Hurricane Hell Drivers

Ever since the automobile was created, there have been those out there who have wanted to crash it. Throughout the years stuntmen and women have done things with cars, bikes and trucks that not only defy our imaginations, but make us fear for their safety. The Hurricane Hell Drivers were a group of daredevils that would traverse the country putting on a stunt show spectacular for all those to see. Even though their antics ranged from death-defying to downright stupid, that didn’t stop them from being one of the most sought after attractions throughout the ’50’s, ’60’s and 1970’s.

Back Flip

Never in a million years would I have thought that a soft-drink company had the ability to take over the world of extreme sports. From setting the world free fall record, to air races, to the all encompassing Red Bull Flutag, this company truly takes pride in finding the best athletes to represent them. Cam Zink, a downhill mountain biker, recently made history when he accomplished the biggest freeride mountain bike step-down backflip in history. His antics are not for the faint of heart, however if risking life and limb on two wheels is your thing, then make sure to click through and check it out!

Drift Idiot

There’s no shame in admitting that I am not, and never shall be a drift expert. In fact if my cars are going sideways, then the odds of me doing something wrong at that moment are pretty damn good. Corey Hosford from DriftIdiot though, is a professional drifter, and a damn good one at that. In his recent exploits he’s teamed up with the Bondurant School of High Performance Driving to see just how good their cars are for going sideways.

Trike Drift

I’ve always wondered what the official age was that determined one to be an adult. By law it’s 18, however from what I’ve seen that doesn’t usually hold true. Hell, I’m in my 40’s but I still feel as though I’m in my early 20’s (my grey hair tells me differently though). I ask this question because I’m curious to know when it becomes “not OK” for an adult to ride a big-wheel. As kids they were the best thing going and after watching this video, I’m thinking about picking up another one. Click through and you’ll understand why.

The Persuaders! Aston Martin vs Ferrari

The Persuaders

It used to be that capturing a car chase was one of the most difficult endeavors in all of film making. Camera rigs were not only cumbersome, heavy and unreliable, but ungodly expensive. Today, filming automobiles is as simple as using a suction cup mount and a GoPro and lets us get shots never even thought of 40 years ago. The Persuaders, with Tony Curtis and Roger Moore was shot in the early 1970’s and features a car chase featuring a 1969 Dino 246 GT and a 1970 Aston Martin DBS. For back in the day it was actually quite good, however by today’s standards it just downright pitiful. Just goes to show you that sometimes technology is a very, very good thing.

Nitro Warriors 2

Nitro Warriors is a stop motion animated car chase that first appeared in 2012. It featured an old Mach 1 Mustang running from the police in a very James Bond-ish style. Now, almost 1 year later, Nitro Warriors 2 is out and with it we’re treated to more amazing stop motion animation, a very creative imagination, and an ending that just keeps us wanting more.

Corvette C7 Burnouts

The new 2014 Corvette is a beast of a machine. Under the bonnet it packs a 460 horsepower V8 that produces 465 lb.-ft of torque and a 0-60 mph time of under 4-seconds. It’s got a brand new look, a fully redesigned interior (thank you GOD!) and with numbers for a base car with the Z51 package rivaling that of most super cars, it may just be the greatest car America has ever produced. Oh… it also does some WICKED burnouts and brake stands as demonstrated here by Smoking Tire host Matt Farah.

Death Proof Car Chase: Good or Bad?

Death Proof

Bullitt and Vanishing Point. Two cheesy films from the late 1960’s and early ’70’s that have only one redeeming quality – the car chases. These films set the standard for what many believe to be the best automotive car chases in history. Fast forward now to 2007 – Director Quentin Tarantino decides he’s going to have a go at creating his own version of the car chase using the same cars in the aforementioned films. He took a 1969 Dodge Charger (Bullitt used a ’68) and a 1970 Dodge Challenger, filmed them at speed and hoped the entire car chase world would love him for it. Hmm… not so much. While the chase was indeed good and actually filmed at speed like the originals, it simply lacked the overall grittiness that the first two had. Yes the cars were cool (anything Kurt Russell is in is cool), and yes the action great, but for some reason I just don’t think it lived up to the originals.

Am I wrong? Let me know what you think.
