Buck-ass crazy… that’s the only way I would categorize any driver who ran a car in the Group B rally class in WRC from 1984 to 1986. They ran upwards of 700 hp, had little to no traction management systems and even though they were fully-caged cars, they were a far cry from having the safety systems that today’s rally cars utilize. Perhaps the most famous and recognizable of the Group B beasties was Audi’s Sport Quattro. Back then it was a hotbed of technology and also changed the way people looked upon the sport. I always get a kick out of street cars that have been lowered within an inch or two of the tarmac. Sure it looks good, but 9 times out of 10 lowering these things makes them completely undrivable. Road imperfections, potholes, speed bumps and even foul weather are the enemies of a lowered car. Hell, even getting in and out of a driveway can be a hassle. Understand that manufacturers go through great lengths making sure that their cars will perform flawlessly in all sorts of conditions, because in the end, these are street cars. That doesn’t stop the masses though from tinkering. It’s a tough choice… do you go for looks alone or usability?

The mighty 2012 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 Centennial Edition vs Godzilla, the 2013 Nissan GT-R Premium. Both of these cars are titans of speed. One is a technological powerhouse, the other a tried and true American sledgehammer. Neither of these cars is for the faint of heart and both will get you into serious trouble if you’re not careful. It’s built in Scotland by a team of French and Scottish engineers. It’s raced at the Bonneville Salt Flats in Nevada, and the guy responsible for its turbo system is from Texas. The Flower of Scotland is a true multinational project whose sole intention was to be the first car with a 1.0-liter engine to break the 300 mph barrier. Power comes from a Kawasaki ZX11 motorcycle engine with one big-ass Garrett turbo on it that can max out at about 35 lbs of boost generating around 400 hp. Not bad for a 1-liter mill. The streamliner runs aluminum front wheels and is only 21-inches wide meaning that this sucker must be a handful to drive. If you’re into off-roading, trail riding and generally love things that go fast then the odds of you knowing about the famed Dakar Rally are pretty damn good. Red Bull is one of the rallies main sponsors and like everything they’re associated with, they pull out all the stops and go ballz-to-the-wall. The following video was produced by Red Bull and shows some highlights from this years 2012 event. The visuals are stunning, the machines are amazing and the race itself is well, one of the most grueling events in all of motor sports.

It feels as though it’s been far too long since we’ve seen Jerry Seinfeld being funny. In fact, ever since “Seinfeld” ended back in 1998, it seems as though America’s favorite comedian has seemingly vanished. Now however it seems Mr. Jerry is back shilling for Acura and their upcoming NSX super car, which is actually quite amazing since he’s so closely associated with Porsche (he owns like 50 of them). Regardless though it’s just nice to see Jerry back in action doing what he does best – making people laugh.

There are some commercials that make you giggle, others that wow you, and yet others that simply get it right and cover all of the above. This is Toyota’s spot for their new “reinvented” 2012 Camry that will air during this weekend’s Super Bowl and in my opinion they hit it clean out of the park. By the way, I’m totally digging the reinvented couch – female version of course! Oh, and the baby time machine it bitching as well.

In the annals of modern hot-rod design there is no question that Chip Foose is amongst the best in the business. His cars have been featured on television, in magazines, online and at some of the greatest car shows around the world. However, before Foose got into hot-rods he was, get this, a Volkswagen guy. That’s right, he drove a 1985 MkII Golf GTI, a car which he says, was one of his favorites and the car that provided him with much of his early inspiration. I suppose it should come as no surprise as the VW Golf, like the Porsche 911, is one of those rare automobiles that has simply evolved over time. Through the years it’s gotten better and better, and like Chip Foose himself, it’s never lost any of the emotion that the original one set forth all those years ago.

It’s no secret that Cadillac has a lot riding on their new ATS sports sedan. I mean let’s face it, if you come out saying your going to best the BMW 3-series well then, you’ve really got your work cut out for you. Set to air on Super Bowl Sunday Cadillac is touting the fact that the ATS was developed at the Nürburgring, that wonderful track in Germany that’s in the wet dreams of every automotive enthusiast. We know that the ATS will have a variety of engines ranging from a 2.0L turbo-four, to a 3.6L V6, to a (we hope) 470 hp V8, but will these power plants be enough to topple one of the greatest small sedans ever? We’ll soon find out I suppose, we’ll soon find out…
