As a gear-head, if you’ve never seen a custom wheel made on a cnc machine then you’re truly missing out. First a big block of aluminum is placed on the jig, then the design program is entered defining the shape and all its intricacies, then you hit the go button and watch your vision materialize in front of you. It’s actually not that simple but you get the idea. Here we have a motorcycle helmet being constructed and the process is amazing. Seriously, this is some cool stuff.

Being a man is awesome – it really is. We get to pee standing up, we get more distinguished looking as we get older and every time we see car being driven like it was stolen we get excited. It’s just the way it is. So imagine my state of well being after I spied this video of the new V10 Audi R8 Spyder being driven through a parking lot at speed. We’ve got fishtailing, a wicked exhaust note and flames coming out of the pipes in the rear. Like I said, it’s good to be a man…

I think we all have a soft spot in our hearts for home built contraptions. Regardless of what they do it’s just cool to see what people can come up with in the dregs of their workshops. Take this ridiculous VW Passat for example. This thing must easily be 5-feet off the ground sporting what looks to be tractor tires and a fully home built suspension system. From the exhaust note the engine seems to be completely stock as well. As you can see the driver is having no problem flogging this thing through the snow, but all that height combined with a very narrow width would have me nervous to even set foot in that thing. Maybe it’s just me, but I have a feeling that we’re going to see a video of this thing flipping over very soon on Streetfire.net.

I had heard that this new Gorillaz video was coming out, and was totally psyched to see that the finished product is as good as I’d hoped. For those that don’t know Gorillaz is a virtual pop band that was created by Damon Albarn of the band Blur, and Jamie Hewlett, co-creator of the comic book Tank Girl. Stylo is not only a music video in as much as it is a mini-feature film. We’ve got a 1969 Camaro, a fat doughnut eating Cop in a Rosco P. Coltrane style Plymouth, guns and Bruce Willis as the sociopath in a hopped up El Camino.

Like I said… all good stuff!

Granted the shock value is here, which is why this was posted on a Sunday morning, but otherwise, I seriously think going to Church would have been more fun.

I found this video while playing around on Youtube and man did it bring me back to when I was a kid. Hell, that could have been me in that box. I remember seeing the movie Bullitt when I was about 8-years old and man did it leave an impression. The low grumble of the Chargers 440 against the high revving 390 of the Mustang GT was music to my ears. This was my first real experience with a car chase and from that day fourth I WAS a car guy. So much so that I now own a 1968 Dodge Charger… but man, if I could only go back to being a kid again.

Aston Martin has been talking about producing the four dour Rapide for some time now. It’s basically their version of the Porsche Panamera which, at any angle is simply God awful. One look at the Rapide and you will see that the designers and engineers over at Aston have created a four door sedan that is simply epic. The car is instantly recognizable as an Aston, which is good because they produce some of the most visually stunning vehicles on the planet. It has the same low slung hood line as the DB9 as well as the same power plant: 6.0-liter V12 that produces 477 hp and 443 lb.-tq.

For those of you that have never heard the exhaust note of an Aston Martin in person, I can tell you it’s a true symphonic masterpiece. I’m just amazed they get it to sound so good. The designers have incorporated the rear doors in such a way that the Rapide still looks like a coupe. Opening the newly designed up swept doors reveals an outstanding interior that showcases Aston Martin’s sport inspired history.

Aston Martin’s to me have always been the gentleman’s muscle car. They’re sleek, elegant with the performance to match the looks. Take a look at the video and decide for yourself.

When I last spoke to my buddy Matt Farah of The Smoking Tire, he informed me that he would soon be posting up some video of himself beating the snot out of the new Lamborghini Gallardo Balboni LP550-2. Keep in mind that the new Balboni was named after none other than Valentino Balboni, Lamborghini’s top test driver since 1967. The car has 550hp, is rear wheel drive and comes with all the bells and whistles you’d expect from this Italian icon. The video was filmed at Spring Mountain Raceway in NV and shows Matt trying to steel the high-speed crown from an 850hp Ford GT.

Another tough day at the office eh Matt…

Because the weekend’s almost here and because I’ve got this weird fixation on Sabine Schmitz, I give you a lap of Germany’s famed Nürburgring Nordschleife at the hands of the world’s fastest taxi driver.

In case you don’t know who Schmitz is, she’s the ex-BMW factory racer who runs tours of the ‘ring, at speed, in a BMW M5. She’s faster than you are, smoother than you could ever hope to be and probably easier on the eyes. She also came damn close to breaking the ten minute barrier on the ‘ring in a Ford Transit van. No, that’s not a misprint; I did say Ford Transit van.

The Nürburgring is actually a public road, and anyone with the cost of admission (currently 16 Euros, or about $22) can drive a lap at speed. Don’t want to void your rental car contract? Afraid of how you’d explain wadding that E class Mercedes to Eurocar? That’s where the Ring Taxi comes in. At 195 Euros per car (about $266), it isn’t cheap and seats book a year or so in advance. Sadly, there’s no guarantee that Sabine will be your pilot.
