In case you happen to be a fan of the capital city of the Old Dominion, we’re throwing this one out to the blogosphere. STIR (the Sustainable Transportation Initiative of Richmond) is seeking to make Richmond, VA one of the 10 cities selected for an EV pilot program. Both Ford and GM want to test their EV concepts in 10 metropolitan areas, and so STIR is conducting an online poll that functions as a petition, which will be used to get local and statewide interest in attracting the project to Richmond. Click through for info about how to support STIR’s bid.

2008 Saturn Flextreme Concept
The 2008 Saturn Flextreme may still be a concept, but it is another example that General Motors is serious about putting advanced, fuel-efficient hybrids on American roads in the not too distant future. They had better be. The long-term financial health of GM is staked in the success of cars like the Flextreme and Volt. The “Not so distant future” is the standard answer out of Detroit regarding timelines for production of electric vehicles. So when will the Saturn Flextreme be made? 2010. Isn’t it great that the “not so distant future” is becoming the present?

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that sales of Segways have gone through the roof as many people turn to alternative, more cost effective means of transportation.
The Segway is a perfect solution for those who travel less than 10 miles to and from work. It gets about 25 miles per charge and hits about 13 miles per hour. Once at work, you can plugin for free fuel (why not have your employer pay for your fuel after all!)
Once dismissed as a fad, the Segway, along with other electric scooters, are gaining in popularity among city dwellers as an effective way to commute when the weather permits.
