Awesome Automotive Movie Posters

Each and every automobile enthusiast has a car movie that’s stuck with them through the years. Some like the classics, like Bullit and Two Lane Blacktop while others prefer new movies like The Fast and the Furious and Death Race. Whatever the case we’re all drawn to these movies because the cars are just as much characters as the actors who drive them. Just think about that for a moment. I mean can you picture Cannonball Run without a black Lamborghini or The Fast and the Furious without a black Dodge Charger? These cars make the movies what they are. One key to the success of these films comes into play even before they’re released in the form of the movie poster that advertises them. Over the next few weeks I’ll be posting up a series of what I consider to be the most amazing automotive movie posters to ever come out of Hollywood. Now, if you don’t see you’re favorite flick right away just be patient because I can almost guarantee that I’ll get to it. Otherwise just sit back, click through and enjoy.

1970 SuperBee

Ever come upon one of those rare roads where there was absolutely nothing in either direction for miles and miles. I have, and the feeling is one of pure excitement and jubilation. Now picture a place that is not so much a road, as it is a vast expanse that covers over 40 square miles of nothing but flat open space. For a car guy the Bonneville Salt Flats are a dream come true. For the underside of an automobile though, they’re a nightmare. I’ve been to the Flats, and while I didn’t go on a flat out speed run, I can tell you that the experience is one that I’ll never forget. The above video captures the exact feeling that most people have when they arrive. You see the Salt Flats make you feel like a bad ass. They make you feel like you could run 200 mph with your ass on fire while the Rolling Stones are blaring from the stereo. It’s one of those rare places that upon your arrival, you’ll just sit back in the drivers seat of your car and dream. I showed up at the Flats in a 1968 Dodge Charger, so watching this video of a 1970 Dodge Super Bee having a little fun just brought back all sorts of great memories.

Anytime you have a job where you deal with the general public on a daily basis, bad things can happen. Human beings are a very finicky bunch and while most of us are pretty well balanced, goodhearted and caring, there are those out there who don’t fire on all eight cylinders. These people find ways to annoy us, provoke us and at times, even push us over the edge. The above movie trailer is for an upcoming flick called, “The Parking Lot Movie” which tells the real life saga of how a bunch of parking lot attendants deal with the general public on a daily basis. According to them, it’s not just a parking lot, but a battle for humanity – sounds interesting right?

MAD MAX Revisited.

If you’re a fan of the original Mad Max / Road Warrior movies then you’ll no doubt find this enjoyable. From what I can determine this piece was completed by Jason Kyle and Nick Bouterey, two graphic illustration students that needed to produce a piece for their Graduate Exhibition. It’s a very cool piece and something that is very reminiscent of the works of Frank Miller, the mastermind behind such movies as 300 and The Spirit. The film is a scant 2:29 long, but that’s all it takes to transport us back into the world of Mad Max and the Lord Humongous. What’s cool is that the illustrations utilized here are just as dirty and full of grit as the original movies, a testament to the fact that these kids have some serious talent. Right now we know that Mad Max: Fury Road, the fourth installment of the series is set for release sometime in 2012. My hope is that this new movie will give all of us Mad Max fans the adrenaline rush we’ve been patiently waiting for.

Start your engines! “Fast Five” trailer hits the net.

Aside from being one of the most profitable movie series in history, The Fast and the Furious movies are an absolute hoot to watch. Sure they’re over the top with their explosions, ridiculous plots and exaggerated character portrayals, but who cares. For the fifth installment of the series Fast Five, we see that most of the original members have rejoined the gang down in Brazil where they’re getting ready to partake in yet another job. After patching up their grievances we now see that former FBI agent Brian O’connor and bad guy Dominic Toretto are working together. Replacing O’connor as the films new good guy is none other than former wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. There is also some wonderful eye candy in the form of hotties Jordana Brewster, Gal Gadot and of course, the wicked rides. So, will Fast Five garner praise and talks of Oscar nominations? Well no… but I can almost guarantee that it will be a fun-filled free for all flick that is full of action, hot chicks and of course, those beautiful cars.

Ring Race: Porsche 911 GT3 vs Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera

Even though this is an incredibly well shot video, my first instinct is to say that this was done without permission from the Parisian authorities. What we have here is a Porsche 911 GT3 and a Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera ripping it up through the streets of Paris in what can only be described as the Fast and the Furious meets Grand Theft Auto. Watching this little flick brings back the nightmares that I had after watching the God awful movie Redline a few years ago. This video does however bring up one very important question though – who would win in an actual race? The 523 hp all-wheel-drive Lamborghini Gallardo Superleggera or the track-tastic 380 hp Porsche GT3? My initial thought would be on the Lambo as its AWD could help you out of trouble on those tight city streets, plus that extra 140 hp should help the big bull school the GT3 all day long in a straight line. A good driver though in a GT3 is a sight to behold, so it is quite possible that the Lambo may not do as well as I think. Hmm… this is a tough one, what do you guys think?

Disney Pixar’s “Cars 2″ trailer makes us feel like kids again…

If you’re a car enthusiast then you’ve no doubt seen Disney Pixar’s movie Cars. Hitting the big screen back in 2006 Cars took us on the animated journey of Lightning McQueen and his buddy Mater, as well as the entire population of Radiator Springs. What was brilliant about Cars though was that it transported both children and adults back to a time when life was just a little simpler. It’s now 4 years later and Pixar has just released the trailer for Cars 2. This time it looks as though they’re taking a bit of a right turn, as our two hero’s are now what look to be secret agents and competing in the World Grand Prix for a chance to save the world. As with everything that comes out of Disney Pixar studios I have no doubt that Cars 2 will delight and capture the imaginations of all those who see it. Cars 2 is scheduled for release July 24, 2011.

Tom Cruise to roll in new BMW 6-Series in Mission Impossible 4.

2012 BMW 6-Series

Yes ladies and gentlemen, it’s true, Hollywood has decided to make yet another Mission Impossible movie starring Tom Cruise. The movie is entitled Mission Impossible: The Ghost Protocol, where Cruise will reprise his role a super agent Ethan Hunt. His mission will be to no doubt try and once again, save the world from some exotic disease, a stolen nuclear weapon or some other form of mass destruction. The good news for us though, aside from the big explosions and action, is that it’s rumored that Cruise will be rolling heavy in the new BMW 6-Series. You see apparently Mr. Cruise was invited to a special preview of the new 6-Series drop top, which I am sure made his day. As of right now we have no details about the plot other than that Jeremy Renner has joined the cast and plays a young agent that Cruise supervises. Hopefully he’ll steal the BMW and have a great car chase with it, with guns, helicopters and naked women. They do that and I have a feeling this sucker could become a blockbuster.

Jim Morrison and a 1967 Shelby G.T. 500 Mustang

Jim Morrison of The Doors was one of the greatest front men in all of music. He was idolized and worshiped as some sort of musical god. Me personally, I didn’t see it, but then again I think that David Lee Roth was the greatest musical front man ever, so what the hell do I know. Regardless of his musical stature though it seems that Morrison was also a bit of a car connoisseur, as can be seen here in a film shot in 1969 with some friends. The film, as with everything that Morrison did, makes no real sense so to speak of. In the film you’ll see him drinking and driving, doing donuts in the desert and basically acting as some sort of counter-culture schmuck. I guess that’s one of the reasons he’s no longer with us. The footage however is simply amazing from a quality standpoint, and hey, if you’re going to beat the snot out of a vintage Mustang in true rock star fashion, it may as well be a 1967 Shelby GT 500.

Dust to Glory: One of the Greatest Movies You’ve Never Seen.

If you’re a true petrolhead like we are than you could care less if you’re watching Formula 1, go-karts or some redneck racing a lawn tractor. Racing is racing and regardless of the machine or venue, it packs into it all the adrenaline that one could ask for. Dust to Glory is a documentary about the Baja 1000, the annual off-road race held down in Baja, Mexico. It’s a race that separates the men from the boys, as Baja is a take no prisoners challenge that takes competitors off the tarmac and into some of the harshest terrain on the planet. If this trailer doesn’t get your blood pumping then you’re either stoned or dead – hell, it’s even narrated by Dana Brown. Honestly, this is a movie that you seriously don’t want to miss…
