Cannonball Run

Burt Reynolds, Dom DeLuise, Roger Moore, Farrah Fawcett, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Jackie Chan and Jamie Farr. These are some the greatest entertainers from the 1960′s, ’70s and ’80s and how they were all coaxed into making this film is way beyond me. This is The Cannonball Run, and if you consider yourself a car guy and haven’t watched this movie, well, turn in your membership card because all hope is lost. Also, if you’re young, and by that I mean under 30, do yourself a favor and check it out. It’s worth it, I promise.

The World's Fastest Indian

Very rarely does a film come along that delights and inspires us. Movies like Senna, LeMans and Faster are a few in a very select group that have this ability. The other night however as I was sitting on the couch, I stumbled upon The Worlds Fastest Indian, a drama that centers around Burt Munro (played by Anthony Hopkins) and his quest for setting a world speed record at the Bonneville Salt Flats. If you haven’t yet seen it then you are truly missing out on one of the best gear-head films of the last 20-years.

Harley Davidson & the Marlboro Man (NSFW)

Harley Davidson And The Marlboro Man

1991 was a pretty good year as far as I’m concerned. You see back then you could still by a performance car that didn’t track your every burnout via computer, Times Square in New York City still had some shady spots, and movies like “Harley Davidson & the Marlboro Man” were in theaters. The 1990′s were young and wide open and so were everyone’s ideas about the new millennium that lay only 9 short years away. There was no real internet so to speak of and cell phones, thankfully, were in their infancy. So… why is this important? It’s important because it was one of the last times in history when I can remember going to the movies because I wasn’t glued to a computer screen. After that, work and responsibility started and lets just say that life hasn’t been the same since. Click through and watch one of the greatest movie openings in 1990′s history.

Oh, and by the way, it’s NSFW, so if your bashful just move along…

Porsche 964 Turbo 3.6

Getting together with my buddies is like an exercise in futility at times. You see we generally meet up early on Sunday mornings, go for a quick 200 mile drive and then stop for breakfast to discuss the ins and outs of the automotive spectrum as we know it. On our last outing and over a generous portion of chicken fried steak, we talked about our dream garages and more specifically what would reside in them. Now while this is a topic that we’ve covered many times before, it never ceases to amaze me that by the end of our conversation we’ve all added at least one more bay to our garage. We talked of Ferrari’s, Audi’s and the occasional muscle car, but when it came time for me to choose there was only one car I could think of. That being the Porsche 911 964 3.6 Turbo that was built for the 1993/94 model year.

New “FAST FIVE” Movie Trailer Hits the Net!

Fast and the Furious Five

I can’t help it… I’m a total sucker for The Fast and the Furious franchise. It’s been going strong for 10 years now and I get totally stoked every time that I hear that a new one is on the horizon. To me, they’re the perfect combination of fast paced action, hot cars, stunts and nice too look at boobies. This is the newest trailer and I have to say that it’s the best one so far. This time cast members from each of the films are reunited in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil to pull a bank heist that’s worth 100 million smackers. A new addition to the cast is Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson as the federal agent in charge of bringing down Dom and his crew. My hope is that we see him and Diesel’s character Dominic Toretto go toe-to-toe. On the car front we’ve got everything from Dom’s beloved 1970 Dodge Charger, to a new Lexus LFA, to a sprinkling of big money exotics. The new film comes out on April 29 which means that car guys everywhere will soon have a reason to part with twelve of their hard earned dollars. Click through for the trailer.

Starsky and Hutch

Well it’s that time again. Time for me to put up another 11 of my favorite automotive movie posters for the world to see. For those of you born after 1985 the odds of you knowing what some of these movies are, are slim to none. I would advise you however not to discount them because of their age, because honestly, some of these old flicks are simply awesome and have paved the way for newer big budget movies. Films like Mother, Juggs & Speed, LeMans and the original Italian Job are movies that no car enthusiast should miss. They contain some of the biggest stars in Hollywood and are filmed in an old school grainy way that only lends to the films appeal. Take a look at some of these posters, choose your favorites and then drop them in your Netflix queue. I promise that you WILL enjoy them.

Amazing Automotive Movie Posters: Part I, 1-11

Awesome Automotive Movie Posters

Each and every automobile enthusiast has a car movie that’s stuck with them through the years. Some like the classics, like Bullit and Two Lane Blacktop while others prefer new movies like The Fast and the Furious and Death Race. Whatever the case we’re all drawn to these movies because the cars are just as much characters as the actors who drive them. Just think about that for a moment. I mean can you picture Cannonball Run without a black Lamborghini or The Fast and the Furious without a black Dodge Charger? These cars make the movies what they are. One key to the success of these films comes into play even before they’re released in the form of the movie poster that advertises them. Over the next few weeks I’ll be posting up a series of what I consider to be the most amazing automotive movie posters to ever come out of Hollywood. Now, if you don’t see you’re favorite flick right away just be patient because I can almost guarantee that I’ll get to it. Otherwise just sit back, click through and enjoy.

1970 Dodge Super Bee Plays on the Salt Flats.

1970 SuperBee

Ever come upon one of those rare roads where there was absolutely nothing in either direction for miles and miles. I have, and the feeling is one of pure excitement and jubilation. Now picture a place that is not so much a road, as it is a vast expanse that covers over 40 square miles of nothing but flat open space. For a car guy the Bonneville Salt Flats are a dream come true. For the underside of an automobile though, they’re a nightmare. I’ve been to the Flats, and while I didn’t go on a flat out speed run, I can tell you that the experience is one that I’ll never forget. The above video captures the exact feeling that most people have when they arrive. You see the Salt Flats make you feel like a bad ass. They make you feel like you could run 200 mph with your ass on fire while the Rolling Stones are blaring from the stereo. It’s one of those rare places that upon your arrival, you’ll just sit back in the drivers seat of your car and dream. I showed up at the Flats in a 1968 Dodge Charger, so watching this video of a 1970 Dodge Super Bee having a little fun just brought back all sorts of great memories.
