Burt Reynolds, Dom DeLuise, Roger Moore, Farrah Fawcett, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Jackie Chan and Jamie Farr. These are some the greatest entertainers from the 1960′s, ’70s and ’80s and how they were all coaxed into making this film is way beyond me. This is The Cannonball Run, and if you consider yourself a car guy and haven’t watched this movie, well, turn in your membership card because all hope is lost. Also, if you’re young, and by that I mean under 30, do yourself a favor and check it out. It’s worth it, I promise.

A Jensen Interceptor, Alfa Romeo Giulietta, Dodge Daytona, ANVIL Mustang, Pagani Zonda and a Classic Mk1 Ford Escort. These are the cars of the upcoming Fast & Furious 6 that’s due out on May 24th. One of the most successful franchises in movie history, the Fast & Furious has not only collected millions upon millions in revenue, but has managed to stay current for the last 12-years thanks in part to a great cast, and even better cars. The Triumph Spitfire is adorable. It’s perky. It’s sweet. And that’s exactly why it needs a screaming, searing, sky-splitting, pavement-melting turbine engine from a helicopter. The appropriately named StanceWorks forums member godzillus is installing a 320-horsepower Allison T63C18 turbine into a rusty Spitfire as you read this post. Oh, and it’s a senior design project for engineering school. Who said school isn’t any fun?

Some perspective: The Spitfire was designed in 1957 by Giovanni Michelotti and was based on the sedate Triumph Herald saloon. It was a nimble, fun and very pretty little roadster produced from 1962 to 1980. Originally it was equipped with a torquey little 1.1 liter (1,147 cc) push-rod inline four. By 1974 the engine had grown to a respectable 1.5 liters (1493 cc). It never weighed more than 1750 pounds. Imagine then, a proper little British roadster with a 320-horsepower turbine engine that tops out at 53,000 rpm and generates 425 ft-lbs of torque at idle. Running stock suspension and brakes. Yep.

godzillus tells us, via the StanceWorks thread, that he and a team of students are building the beast as a senior design project for (the world’s most awesome) engineering school. They say they’re doing it to test a digital turbine controller, but come on. We all know they’re doing it in the name of hoons everywhere.

The team received the car as a gift from the local Triumph club and they’re borrowing the Allison turbine, which retails for more than $250,000. The students have scraped together $3,000 for the build, which is mostly going into fabricating parts for the engine swap, a roll cage and safety equipment. Thus there’s no extra cash for upgraded brakes and suspension. Sadly, the team ”will never get to drive this thing in anger,” says godzillus.

As you can see from the pics below, the team has already made great progress. They’ve patched the rusty bits, sprayed the car with primer and have mocked up the engine in the car. They’ve also created some trick 3D CAD files to design the seven-inch exhaust that will no doubt leave burn marks on the asphalt. Heck, if we’re lucky, the exhaust may even light the asphalt on fire.

Three carbs, solid axle suspension and a chopped roof. Yep, this just seemed like the right way to close out the weekend, don’t you agree?

Getting the stance right in a custom vehicle can either make it or break it from a visual perspective. Set it too high and it looks like a 4×4, set it too low and you’re dragging oil pans. Diedelson’s Customs in Holland has opted for the latter on their 1951 Chevy Truck and in doing so has created a vehicle that looks like it came out of some B-rated horror flick. It’s old and rusty, but thanks to a front airbag suspension it actually runs pretty good when pushed hard. Is it for everyone? Well no. However if you’re diggin’ on the rusty ole’ airbag look, then this slammed old Chevy may just be the one for you.

The American hot-rod is an icon. It was crafted out of rebellion, ingenuity and the will to be different. They were meant to go fast, get looks and at days end, announce to the world that you had arrived in style. The truth is though, in the last 60 years not a whole lot has changed. Sure technology has advanced, but deep down the basic DNA has always remained the same. Here’s the deal – if you’re looking for super-accurate depictions of cars doing normal things then runaway now. However if you want kick-ass action that’s centered around some of the coolest cars in existence then look no further. Fast & Furious 6 is set to open on May 24th and to be honest, we can’t friggin’ wait!!

1. A Double Duty Kitchen

Even when residing in a camper van you can still have a working kitchen. This kitchen allows users to store their stove in its special drawer when they are done using it. Items such as a tea kettle can be placed in the sink and the sink can be covered up to add much needed counter space.

2. Up High Storage Bins

These bins are a great example of van racking and are a great way to store little items such as toiletries or even undergarments. You can put ceiling high shelving up yourself and get storage bins to match the overall theme of your interior. To keep the bins from moving around when you are traveling, attach a piece of Velcro to the shelf and the bin to easily and inexpensively keep it in place.

3. Door Storage Shelves

Doors with shelves attached are a great place to store items. Shelves can be placed on the door and the items that are stored can be easily accessed whether the doors are open or closed. Things like dishtowels or kitchen accessories are the perfect items to store on shelves that are on doors. Just make sure that the placement of the shelves still allows you to access the door’s handle and locks.

4. Fun Decor

The easiest way to make a camper van feel like home is to add a fun decor. You can reupholster bench seats yourself and add matching pillows as well. Don’t forget to add a skid resistant rug to the flooring and curtains that will complement the overall interior. You can even put pictures up if you attach them to the wall securely. To make the camper van look bigger, consider using light or pastel colors that give the allusion of the space actually being larger than it is.

5. Customized Bed

You can fit a bed into your camper van by getting creative. Simply attach a bed approximately 3 feet from the ceiling to leave several feet below it for storage. You can even attach a small TV to the wall towards the front of your bed so that it feels like a bedroom.
