For many automotive enthusiasts seeing a true supercar in person can be a life changing experience. For example, I remember being completely blown away when I first laid eyes on a 1972 Lamborghini Miura. The car was simply stunning from every angle and over time, has influenced how I view cars today. Over the years supercars have not only become faster, but safer and more refined as well. It wasn’t until the 1990′s though that this un-obtainium breed of automobile really came into its own. Things like advanced turbocharging methods, enhanced suspension components and new safety features thrust the supercar into realms the world had never seen. These machines were also pivotal in setting the stage for how all future supercars would be judged. Their style and performance, although at times controversial, helped manufacturers push the limits of what was possible in road going street cars and in turn, helped automakers advance entire product lines. Even though some of these machines are going on 20 years old, that doesn’t change the fact that they are still the things that childhood dreams are made of. I can’t help it… I’m a total sucker for The Fast and the Furious franchise. It’s been going strong for 10 years now and I get totally stoked every time that I hear that a new one is on the horizon. To me, they’re the perfect combination of fast paced action, hot cars, stunts and nice too look at boobies. This is the newest trailer and I have to say that it’s the best one so far. This time cast members from each of the films are reunited in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil to pull a bank heist that’s worth 100 million smackers. A new addition to the cast is Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson as the federal agent in charge of bringing down Dom and his crew. My hope is that we see him and Diesel’s character Dominic Toretto go toe-to-toe. On the car front we’ve got everything from Dom’s beloved 1970 Dodge Charger, to a new Lexus LFA, to a sprinkling of big money exotics. The new film comes out on April 29 which means that car guys everywhere will soon have a reason to part with twelve of their hard earned dollars. Click through for the trailer.

The car has such tremendous appeal that it’s still being manufactured, both by Shelby American and by about a dozen other companies. Kit car Cobras can be had at a variety of price points, and the replica cars themselves range from the truly hideous to the reasonably authentic. If the CEO of Dodge, Ralph Giles, is to be taken seriously, the next Dodge Viper’s styling was inspired by “a naked woman on the beach”. Naked women have inspired me many times over the years, but never to pen the lines of their bronzing body into the shape of a car. Maybe that’s why I’m neither an artist nor a car designer, but I can’t wait to see what Dodge has in store for the next-gen Viper. All we know so far (aside from the naked woman thing) is that the next Viper should show up around the end of next year (L.A. Auto Show, perhaps) and should be in showrooms as a 2013 model. Meet the Caterham SP/300R, the latest track day terror from the builders of the Caterham 7. Like the Caterham 7 and it’s variants, the SP/300R has limits best explored in the safe confines of a race track. Unlike the Caterham 7, you won’t be driving the SP/300R to the race track, since the current version is not road legal. Caterham feels that there’s enough demand for “track only” cars to go this route for the car’s introduction, although a road-going version is said to be under consideration. Read More…

I know, I know – I promised I wouldn’t post any more “Downfall” sppofs, since they’ve been utterly played out. This one, though, is different, and if you’re a BMW fan you’ll grin and grimace at the same time. Of all the possible engines they could have picked for the 1 Series M, the N54 probably wasn’t the best choice for a car that is destined to see track time with nearly every owner. If the N54 has durability problems being driven on the street, expect the situation to be worse with the abuse track days generate.

If you follow Ferrari and Ferrari chief Luca di Montezemolo, then you know that not long ago the company was toying with the idea of bringing an SUV to market. The initial problem was that Ferrari was having a difficult time figuring out how to make a full-size SUV fit the “Ferrari” image. Montezemolo has a goal of transforming Ferrari by introducing a new car to the public that is different from anything yet produced by the brand. The new car is set to debut at the Geneva Motor Show in a few months, but as yet nobody outside Ferrari really knows exactly what it will be. Rumors speculate that an all-wheel-drive Shooting Brake will replace the now aging 612 Scaglietti, thus shaking up what we all know to be Ferrari in a traditional sense.

Marcos cars are madness. All have plywood chassis modeled after the De Havilland Mosquito fighter. Most run Ford engines and various Triumph suspension bits. They are lightweight, fast, and devastating on the track.  This is the fastest, most mental Marcos ever made. It’s the Mantis XP, a mid-engine monster powered by a 700-horsepower BRM-Repco V8 and styled by the brilliant Adams Brothers.

Spy photo’s of the upcoming 2012 Porsche 911 have been floating around for awhile now. The new car is set to debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2011 and will mark the seventh generation of Porsche’s fabled super car. Details are still somewhat scarce, but according to WorldCarFans.com the new car is said to possess some pretty substantial changes over its predecessor. From what we can see in the photos Porsche looks to have updated the front end with smaller headlamps and fog lamps similar to those found on the current generation 911 Turbo. The car is also said to be 2.2-inches longer and .5-inches lower at the roof line as well.
