Maybe having the classic car of your dreams is enough, whether it’s a good investment or not. You’ve always wanted a 1969 Mustang, Dodge Charger, or 1957 Mercedes 300SL (Gullwing). And if you have the cash to spare, you should have one. But it turns out there’s another more tangible reason to buy a classic car, they’re rapidly appreciating. According to a report by Douglas Ellison and Knight Frank, while traditional collectible investments like watches, art, and coins have appreciated some, (with appreciations of 3%, 5% and 10% in the last 12 months, respectively), collectible cars are stealing the show. Collectible cars have appreciated by 25% in the last 12 months, 111% in the last 5 years, and 469% since 2004. Here are the top ten reasons why classic cars are the best collectible investments.

How do you feel about electric cars? Personally, I’m not a massive fan (yet) but the fact is, we can’t escape that these are the way of the future. They’re becoming more reliable, faster and with ever evolving battery technology, we’re getting more in the way of range with each and every update. Resident hot-shoe Chris Harris recently got behind the wheel of the Drayson B12/69EV, an old petrol powered LMP car that’s been converted over to electric power. His thoughts? 1934PiersonBros_7

I sometimes wonder what will happen to classic cars and hot-rods once the older generation passes on. Muscle cars will most likely still be around, but I’m more concerned about the cars from the 1920’s-1950’s. What you are viewing here is a 1934 Ford coupe that’s been transformed into a Pierson Bros. Salt Flats tribute. Built the right way, this old Ford is equipped with a 1934 frame, steel firewall and cowl with functional vent, a fiberglass body, freshened up 5.0L V-8 and an AOD transmission. It also features a Petronix ignition, Edelbrock carb and a Snow White water pump system. The paint on the car is flawless as is the interior that houses Stewart Warner gauges and great looking bomber seats with leather inserts. This is a ride that anyone would be proud to own, so make sure to check it out and help save another classic!

Fiat 500L

For those of you out there who want to play grab-ass with your girlfriends Mom, well then, Fiat’s got the car for you! I mean hell, what middle-aged Cougar wouldn’t go crazy for a car with Italian styling, nicely appointed seats and an interior that’s so roomy that it literally lets her kiss you on the face without anyone knowing. Sadly though there’s no dirty talk, which I suppose is appropriate since Fiat’s are mostly visual little buggers anyway. Check it out after the jump.

Double Trouble Hot Rod

In the world of hot-rodding there are few cars that are going to leave as big an impression as this – the 1927 Ford Model T custom simply known as “Double-Trouble”. It rides on a custom-built tube chassis that’s fabricated from 1.5-inch tube. Is powered by two 4.6-liter modular V8s from Ford with four, count ‘em, FOUR superchargers for an approximate power output of around 1,200 hp. It also utilizes the rear-end (inboard disc brakes and all) from an early Jaguar. It’s a rolling a Hot Wheels car and a masterpiece of engineering that is sure to make all your naughty bits tingle.

Let’s get this right out in the open. This car, the 2014 EQUUS BASS770, is a new take on the American muscle car. It’s got the body of a 1965 Mustang (kinda), a front end that looks like it came from a 1971 Plymouth Road Runner and the engine and suspension out of a Corvette. Oh, and it also costs – wait for it… $250,000. Seriously, they spent some coin on it! Now, is it worth it? Honestly, I have no idea. It does however have one of the best marketing videos out there! Mad Max opening chase: Immortal Awesomeness!

Posted in Best of, General, Movie Cars, Movies, Videos by MrAngry | August 8th, 2013 | Leave a Reply |

Mad Max

It’s been copied in films, music videos and video games and will forever go down in history as one of the best car chases ever filmed. Mad Max came out in 1979 and brought with it an automotive rawness that has yet to be duplicated in any other road movie. The films opening chase sequence is nothing short of sublime and was filmed entirely at speed by director George Miller. The cars were Australian built Holden Monaro’s set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. The stunts were outrageous and the adrenaline that shot off the screen to this day still gives all that view it goosebumps. This is the opening chase scene from Mad Max, and it is, simply put, awesome…
