RideApart

It’s one thing to be riding on a motorcycle and to get caught in dodgy weather, but riding through it on purpose? That’s another story entirely. On this, RideApart’s season II finale, two-wheeled superhero Jamie Robinson climbs aboard a KTM 990 Adventure and heads for the back hills of Colorado where he faces ice, snow and or course, the occasional dirt trail. He also proves once and for all that motorcycling is not so much about the bike that you ride, but about the adventure that it takes you on.

Rolling Free

Having logged over 100,000 miles in the saddle of various motorcycles, I can tell you that if I had one way in which to travel that this would be it. Those that don’t ride will never understand the feeling of freedom, exhilaration and pure connection to the road that riding offers. The fact is that most people are afraid of motorcycles. They hear of horrid accidents and think that most riders have a death wish, when in fact it’s totally the opposite. Ever hear the phrase, “Live to Ride, Ride to Live”… well, it’s 100% true. Motorcycles make you feel alive. They bring to light every sense in your body and offer an almost out of body experience when your cruising down the road on that perfect sunny day. Sure there’s an element of danger in riding, but hell, that’s part of the fun. If you’ve never ridden a motorcycle then please do yourself a favor and try it just once. If you don’t like it, then fine, however don’t simply dismiss it because of what others say as you’ll be missing out on one of the greatest experiences of a life time.

KTM’s X-Bow Makes It Stateside

Florida doesn’t have a decent driving road in the entire state, but we do have a plethora of racetracks. Off the top on my head, we’ve got Daytona, Palm Beach International, Sebring, Homestead Miami and Jennings GP. Branching out to the next state north, Roebling Road is only an hour and a half from my house, and Road Atlanta is probably closer to me than Homestead Miami. Is it any wonder, then, that I’m jonesing for the KTM X-Box (pronounced “crossbow”) and have been since it was launched in the EU? The track day terror makes perfect sense: you can tow it to the track with nearly any automobile, flog the living snot out of it and not have to worry about saving enough tire and brakes to make it home. In fact, if my current income had just one more zero on the end of it, I’d be on the phone to British Racing Group to order one up, since they’re finally selling the X-Bow on this side of the pond. The KTM X-Bow is the automotive equivalent of a peanut butter and bacon sandwich: most people would look at it and simply say, “pass”. You know it’s not good for you, and sooner or later it’ll probably kill you, but others find themselves sucked in like a moth to a flame. Peanut butter and bacon sandwiches may have helped Elvis to an early grave, but the KTM X-Bow would have done the same thing. Of course he would have died in better shape, but that’s a topic for another time.

The ROC or Race of Champions is an end of season event that takes the greatest race car drivers from around the globe and pits them in a head to head competition against one another. The cars are as diverse as the drivers and disciplines they represent. Last year we saw the Ford Focus WRC 09, KTM X-Bow, ROC Buggy and RX 150. Watching drivers like Michael Schumacher, David Coulthard and Tanner Foust in these different machines was truly a site to behold.

Sebastien Loeb Claims 2008 Race of Champions Victory

Posted in KTM, Newsworthy, Racing by Suzanne Denbow | December 15th, 2008 | 1 Response |

Five-time WRC winner Sebastien Loeb earned his third Race of Champions victory in six years Sunday at Wembley. Throwing down behind the wheel of the KTM X-Bow, Loeb’s victory comes on the tail end of the X-Bow’s individual win as Top Gear’s 2008 Sports Car of the Year. Loeb, who sat out last year’s event to attend the birth of his first child, arrived to the make-shift tarmac at Wembley a clear crowd favorite – but the race was by no means a sure thing. Nearly ousted by British racer David Coulthard, Loeb clinched his third ROC win by a mere .3 of a second. Said a victorious Loeb to reporters, “It’s a very tight track and you have to give everything you can. I didn’t get as much experience as some of the others, as I only did one ROC Nations Cup race, but it was a good weekend for me.” Read More…
