Amelia Island

The Amelia Island Concours is quickly becoming the Pebble Beach of the East Coast. Once a year some of the most stunning vehicles in the world gather for one simple task – to celebrate mechanized transportation. The goal this year was to celebrate 50 years of the Ford GT40, 50 years of Lamborghini, 50 years of the Porsche 911, 50 years of the Corvette Stingray, and Ducati motorcycle as a whole. The video is almost 16-minutes in length, but if you have the time, I fully encourage you to watch it in its entirety.

Tank-slappers Suck.

Tank Slapper

1995. That was the year I experienced a tank-slapper first hand. I was riding a 1990 Ducati 750 Sport and after unloading the front suspension off a small crest in the road, the bars just decided to do their own thing. You see a tank-slapper can occur when the front tire goes light and then comes down on a slight road imperfection. For a rider it’s one of the scariest things that can happen on a motorcycle next to crashing. Thankfully for this rider, he made it out with a simple change of underwear as opposed to an insurance claim.

eBay Deal of the Week: 1983 Ducati Mike Hailwood Replica

1983 Ducati Mike Hailwood Replica

If you ride a motorcycle and have never heard of Mike “the Bike” Hailwood then you’ve got some explaining to do. Hailwood is considered by some to be one of the greatest motorcycle racers of all time having won 76 Grand Prix victories, 14 Isle of Man TT wins and 9 World Championships. In short, the man is a bona-fide two-wheeled legend. When I began riding bikes back in the late 1980′s names like Kevin Schwantz, Doug Polen, Phil Reed, Freddie Spencer and Mike Hailwood were the guys we talked about. Their achievements were awe-inspiring, and for us “squids” we simply wanted to be associated with them in some way. Fast forward to the 1983 Ducati 900SS “Hailwood” replica you see here on eBay. This bike was created to celebrate Hailwood’s win in 1978 at the Isle of Man TT. The owner states that it’s covered just 12,750 miles, has been completely gone through and is running in top-notch condition. By today’s standards this thing handles and accelerates like a dump truck, however if you’re looking for a stunningly beautiful ride that’s highly collectable, then look no further.

Porsche GT2 RS v. Ducati 1199 Panigale: The Drag Race

Porsche GT2 RS vs Ducati 1199

For most people the act of drag racing a vehicle may seem quite simple, however in reality it’s one of the hardest motorsports to master. Chris Harris recently found this out when he decided to pit a Porsche 997 GT2 RS against a Ducati 1199 Panigale. The Porsche packs a whopping 620 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque from its twin-turbo flat-six engine. The Ducati on the other hand makes 192 hp from its v-twin mill, but with a dry weight of only 361.5 lbs, it gains a massive advantage over the Porsche. So, which one of these street beasts will come out the victor? Click through to find out.

Ducati Helps Mercedes-Benz Stay Sexy

Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG Coupe

Synergy. This is what happens when two things meet, compliment each other and then prosper from their joint relationship. AMG and Ducati are two powerhouse name brands in the world of performance. And even though one rides on four wheels and the other on two, that makes no difference because their message is exactly the same. Sex, speed and performance. The following video takes us on a behind the scenes look at the C 63 AMG Coupé photo shoot. That means a blonde clad in a full leather body suit, a wicked white Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG Coupé and a camera crew that’s bringing out the best in both of them.

Ducati 1199 Panigale

Let’s see now… I’ve had a 1990 Ducati 750 Sport, a 1996 Ducati 900 SS, 1998 Ducati 748 and lastly a 2001 Ducati 996. It’s been years now since I’ve thrown a leg over one of Ducati’s fiendish super scoots and I’ll be honest when I say that I miss them everyday. You see there is something about these Italian pasta rockets that gets under your skin and creeps into your soul. Maybe its the rumble of those old dry clutches clattering together, or perhaps the thunderous boom that emitted from those big V-twin power plants. All I know is that now, after seeing their ad for the new 1199 Panigale, I want one again.

Why We Ride: Rolling Free

Rolling Free

Having logged over 100,000 miles in the saddle of various motorcycles, I can tell you that if I had one way in which to travel that this would be it. Those that don’t ride will never understand the feeling of freedom, exhilaration and pure connection to the road that riding offers. The fact is that most people are afraid of motorcycles. They hear of horrid accidents and think that most riders have a death wish, when in fact it’s totally the opposite. Ever hear the phrase, “Live to Ride, Ride to Live”… well, it’s 100% true. Motorcycles make you feel alive. They bring to light every sense in your body and offer an almost out of body experience when your cruising down the road on that perfect sunny day. Sure there’s an element of danger in riding, but hell, that’s part of the fun. If you’ve never ridden a motorcycle then please do yourself a favor and try it just once. If you don’t like it, then fine, however don’t simply dismiss it because of what others say as you’ll be missing out on one of the greatest experiences of a life time.

Why Do We Ride? Puma & Ducati Try To Answer The Question

Posted in Ducati, Videos by Kurt Ernst | June 26th, 2011 | Leave a Reply |

In my experience, you either have the motorcycle gene or you don’t. If you have it, you’re never truly happy or at peace unless you’ve got a bike underneath you, an open road in front of you, no place to be and all the time in the world to get there. If you don’t have it, you probably can’t understand what all the fuss is about, and that’s a good thing.

It’s hard to put the importance of motorcycles to riders down in words, or on video, but Ducati and Puma do a great job of exploring that relationship in a series of videos called “Lean In and Ride With Us”. Watch the video series below (shamelessly ripped off from Autoblog, who found it first) at your own risk, because even if you have a dormant motorcycle gene, these vids will have you trolling Cragslist and eBay for the rest of the afternoon. Buy A Ducati Diavel, Rule The World

Posted in Ducati, Videos by Kurt Ernst | May 15th, 2011 | 1 Response |

If the video below is true (and it has to be, because it’s on the internet), the Ducati Diavel will intimidate men carrying clipboards, get women hot and bothered, captivate children and cause men driving AMG Mercedes sedans to drive into parked cars. If that’s not all you need to rule the world, you should seriously consider another line of work (possibly one that involves carrying a clipboard). When Ducati announced their 162 horsepower cruiser, I’ll admit that my first thought was “pointless waste of carbon fiber”. The more that I see the bike, especially in motion, the more I understand it’s appeal and the more I could actually see myself riding one (after hitting the lottery, of course). Watch the Diavel in action in the video below. Read More…
