Twin-Turbo Subaru Legacy: How JDM Can You Go?

Posted in DRIVE, General, Subaru, Videos by MrAngry | November 21st, 2013 | Leave a Reply |

TUNED

In stock form the 1998 Subaru Legacy GT was nothing to write home about. Sure it came standard with all-wheel drive and a nice 165 hp boxer 4-cylinder engine, but all that did was get it rolling. Owner Dave Brown however likes to do things differently. So, rather than build an R-STi like everyone else, he spent over two years at his shop Fast of Westchester turning his 1998 Subaru Legacy into a perfect JDM Tuner Car, right down to the rare Twin-Turbo engine. This is how subtlety should be done.

2014 Cadillac CTS Vsport vs 2013 Lexus GS350 F Sport!

Head to Head

The 2014 Cadillac CTS Vsport and 2013 Lexus GS350 F Sport. Two $60k sport sedans where the emphasis is more on real driving than pure luxury. The Lexus packs a naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 that makes 306 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque. Whereby the Cadillac pumps out 410 hp and 430 lb-ft of torque from a 3.6-liter twin-turbo V6. At first you may not think the comparison is fair, but considering they cost just about the same, we say “Let the games begin!”

Corvette vs Viper

Remember when Nissan released the GT-R back in 2008? Remember all the hoopla and fanfare? Well, that’s exactly what’s happening now, but this time it’s the new C7 Chevrolet Corvette that’s getting all the attention. For $60k it’s doubtful that there is a better performance car on the market, however just in case you weren’t sure, the guys at InsideLine decided to pit it against the SRT Viper, Nissan GT-R, Porsche 911, Porsche Cayman S, Ford Shelby GT500 and BMW M3. Click through for the results.

Mazda Fail

Ever have one of those days were you should have just stayed in bed? I bet that’s what this tow-truck driver was thinking as he watched a newly recovered Mazda3 roll down a hillside as it snapped off its tow chain. You can feel the pain of this sheer fail as the poor driver simply drops his head in disgust.

Poor guy.

Ryan Gates’s 311RS – /TUNED

EVO 311RS

There is no question that the Mitsubishi Evo is one helluva performer in stock form. It puts out decent power, has all-wheel drive, and with a dual-clutch transmission, is an absolute pistol to drive fast. Modify these little beasties though and well, they have a tendency to go “POP”… And not in a good way. Matt Farah of The Smoking Tire and /TUNED recently got his hands on Ryan Gates’s 311RS Evo with the goal of seeing if a highly tuned EVO could not only push the boundaries of performance, but keep its reliability as well.

Gasser Customs

Whether you ride, drive, or build, being an automotive or motorcycle enthusiast goes deeper than most people will ever realize. These vehicles represent a creative outlet for us through modification, act as a psychiatrist to us when we’re feeling down and keep our minds sharp through maintenance and upkeep. In short, we live for these machines. Adam “Gasser” Gaspic owns a one man motorcycle shop aptly known as Gasser Customs. Through this, he’s able to express himself by building some of the coolest little cafe racers on the road, and he makes his mark one bike at a time.

Regular Car Reviews: 2003 Honda S2000

Honda S2000

There are some cars that have the ability to develop a fan base long after they’re gone. The BMW E30 M3 is one, and the Honda S2000 convertible is another. The S2000, while a great little car, seems to have developed into the stuff of legend posting amazing times both 0-60 mph, in the quarter mile and on the skid pad. The interesting thing though is that very few of what’s been posted by the fan-boys is actually true. Regular Car Reviews takes a look into the Honda S2000, and more importantly, pokes fun of everyone who simply makes stuff up.

I love these guys.

Dare to Be Different in a Datsun 240Z

Datsun 240Z

If you’re like me then you can tell where an automobile was built just by looking at it. Be it from Germany, Italy, the U.S. or Japan, each country of origin ingrains their own personalities into the cars they build. This is Dave Scholz, and his car of choice is a modified 1970 Datsun 240z. It looks outstanding, produces some of the best noise I’ve heard in years, and must be a total riot on the back roads. This is a great episode of Petrolicious, so make sure to check it out after the jump.
