Nissan Track Test

Pro-touring is the art of taking and old car and fitting it with modern components so as to give it the performance to be able to run head-to-head with today’s modern sports cars. Now when most people think of this, they immediately think of modernized muscle cars. But what about taking vintage imports and doing the same thing. MotorTrend recently got two amazing Nissan Z cars together for an all-out track comparison. Car 1 was a modern day 370z fitted with just about every bolt-on you could possibly purchase over the parts counter. Car 2 was a vintage 1970 Datsun 240z with an RB26 engine transplant that was built by Gordon MacSwain of Ohio. Both cars are fast, nimble and have serious track cred, but at days end, who will be the victor? Click through to find out.

Thunder Hill Crash April 2013

Attending track events can be one of the most exhilarating and exciting things you can do with your car. From novice drivers to experts, nothing says “fun” like wringing out your ride at speed. With speed however comes the chance for danger and in a race track environment there is usually “zero” warning when things are about to go south. The following video was recently shot at Northern California’s Thunderhill Raceway and shows just how unpredictable things can get even when there are experienced drivers behind the wheel.

Toyota Supra Rally Car

If you were to build a car to compete in the WRC (World Rally Championship), the odds of you choosing something that’s relatively compact with all-wheel-drive would be pretty good. Cars like the Subaru Impreza and Mitsubishi EVO immediately come to mind, but a late model rear-wheel drive Toyota Supra?!? Hmm… that may not be the best choice. Norway’s Kenneth Moen however not only disagrees, but has set up one of the sweetest Supra’s I’ve ever seen. Click through and get ready to see (and hear) one of the coolest rally cars on the planet!

Low Life VIP

There is no question that the stance of a vehicle can make or break its appearance. A car sitting too high on its suspension can look like an elephant on stilts, where one that sits too low can be undriveable. Some folks love the lowered look so much that they’ve resigned themselves to the fact that when modified, they simply won’t be able to drive their cars to various destinations. Are cars like this for everyone? No… they’re not. That doesn’t mean however we can’t appreciate the way they look. Check out the video after the jump.

Subaru Hoon

As 16 and 17 year old kids the only thing we wanted to do with our cars was to go out and cause trouble. Burnouts, donuts, j-turns were our signature moves, but every now and then we’d be able to find some trails and do a little auto-crossing. We’d find a nice open field, wait until the sun went down, and then let the hoonage begin. Now granted, we were driving crappy cars from the late 1970′s and early 80′s, so we never achieved the visceral WOW factor of what you’re about to see. Regardless though, as long as there are teenagers with cars, you can bet your ass that disturbing the neighbors and causing trouble will never go away.

R32 Nissan GT-R

If you’re an automotive enthusiast here in the United States then you probably know there were earlier versions of the Nissan GT-R before the current model. In fact the Nissan GT-R has been around in one form or another since 1969. The R32, or third Gen GT-R, was produced from 1989-1994 and never sold here in the States. It’s also regarded by some to be one of the most collectible GT-R’s out there. Endless, a tuner shop in Japan, has managed to get a whopping 1,200 hp out of the R32 and done so in a manner that not only keeps the car streetable, but reliable as well.

2014 Mazda6 i Grand Touring: RideLust Review

2014 Mazda6 i

Thumbs Up: Perhaps the best-looking midsize sedan, premium feel

Thumbs Down: Could use more power, transmission not particularly sporty

Buy This Car If: You’re shopping for a midsize sedan with good looks and an upscale feel

While this may not come as a surprise to many readers, Mazda doesn’t sell nearly as many Mazda6 sedans as Honda sells Accords or Toyota sells Camrys. That’s not to say the previous Mazda6 was a bad car, but it was easily lost in the crowd, especially when competitors spend serious money on television and print advertising. Read More…

Classic Car Club Manhattan

For anyone who wants to know, the Classic Car Club Manhattan is located on 250 Hudson Street in New York, NY. The area is known as Tribeca and is home to some of the most desirable property in the entire city. I used to work three blocks from that address and everyday I’d walk by their windows and peak inside to see what cars were on the floor. To some, this video may seem a bit on the irresponsible side, but to a native New Yorker like myself, it’s just how we drive.

Mazda Miata Club

24 years. That’s how long the world has been infatuated with the Mazda Miata. When first released back in 1989, this little roadster literally rewrote the book on what inexpensive, open-air cruising was all about. For 2013 Mazda has released the Miata Club, a hopped up version of their famous roadster that’s said to be better in every way. Motor Trend’s Carlos Lago recently took the 2013 Mazda MX-5 Miata Club out for a proper thrashing, and by the end of the video you’ll notice that everything that made the MX-5 great in the beginning, still remains today.

Do you like military vehicles, zombies and post-apocalyptic Japanimation? Well if you do, then get ready to view a ride that would fit perfectly in your garage. Builder Sataomi Nakawatase has taken queues from each category and crafted one hellacious ride out an old school Nissan Silvia. Not just a piece of art, this Silvia is apparently just as home on the racetrack as it is scaring the crap out Japan’s younger population. In short, it’s awesome!
