Club Orly

Road trips with your friends are some of the best things you can do in the motoring world. You pick your destination, pack up some water and granola bars, then fuel up and hit the road. The following video, Klub Orly, follows 9 friends and their old school VW’s on a 2500 mile trip to Wörthersee in the Austrian Alps. Sure there were problems along the way, but hey, that’s part of the fun! Check out the video after the jump.

2014 Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel vs 2013 Volkswagen Touareg

Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel

10 years ago if you were to tell someone that they needed to pay over $50K for a Jeep Grand Cherokee, they’d probably laugh at you. This however isn’t 10 years ago, it’s 2013 and this new Jeep Cherokee EcoDiesel is hands-down worth every penny. Not long ago I had the opportunity to test drive the new Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel in Austin, TX and truth be told, it’s a wonderful vehicle. The 2013 Volkswagen Touareg is also a decent SUV. Not wonderful mind you, but decent. The interior feels bland and stagnant compared to the Grand Cherokee, but on the road it’s a little more compliant in my opinion. Motor Trend’s Jonny Lieberman recently got these two trucks together for a little off-road showdown and I’m happy to say that his conclusions about both vehicles were very similar to my own.

Does your Beetle float?

VW Beetle Floating

There is no denying that the Volkswagen Beetle does a lot of things well. It gets decent fuel economy, is fun to drive and is small enough that you can generally park it anywhere. But crossing a lake? That’s a bit much even for a Beetle. If you’re a redneck though and you’ve got a crowd of drunk spectators goading you on, well then, I suppose anything is possible. Check it out after the jump.

2013 VW Beetle Convertible With Sound & Nav: RideLust Review

2013 VW Beetle Convertible

Thumbs Up: Better than the last Beetle Convertible in every way

Thumbs Down: Cloth seats not available, not much rear passenger room

Buy This Car If: You were there in the 1970s and long for your first Beetle convertible

It’s probably safe to say that few cars ever sold in North America achieved quite as large a cult following as the original Volkswagen Beetle. Countless numbers of us learned to drive behind the wheel of a Volkswagen Beetle, and those of us in snow-belt states soon learned the advantage of skinny tires and a rear-mounted engine in winter. We also learned about things like snap oversteer on black ice, ejecting windshield wiper blades and a heating system that varied between “primitive” and “nonexistent.” Read More…

1967 VW Beetle

Some people say that we don’t choose our cars, but that our cars choose us, a philosophy that I agree with wholeheartedly. Steven Ruiz, owner of this one-year-only 1967 Volkswagen Beetle, knows this all too well, as this is the relationship he has with his little bug. Everyday for 10 years Ruiz drove by the home where the Beetle was parked, and everyday he knew that one day, he would have to own it. Thankfully his dream came true when the owner decided to sell, and now, because of this, Ruiz has a car that he hopes to hold on to forever.

Volks Brothers California Meeting

I don’t think anyone could’ve predicted the impact the original Volkswagen Beetle would have on the automotive world and pop-culture. It’s an icon that spans the globe and is loved by just about everyone. Like Harley-Davidson motorcycles, these little machines are customizable to no-end allowing their owners to personalize each and every inch of them. Recently the Second California Volks Brothers meeting took place and thankfully for us, they filmed it!

VW Golf MK1 736 hp 2.0L Turbo… YIKES!

Posted in Burnouts, European Rides, General, Hoonage, Rides, Videos, Volkswagen by MrAngry | March 13th, 2013 | 2 Responses |

Volkswagen MK1 Golf

I can pretty much guarantee that the engineers at Volkswagen never thought of putting a 736 hp engine under the bonnet of the original Golf MK1. In 1974 the little MK1 cranked out a mere 59 hp from its inline-4, however the one you’re about to see makes more than 12-times that. As you can see, the exterior sheet metal remains stock, however that’s where it ends. Power is put down through the front wheels by way of a six-speed manual transmission, while a massive Garrett turbo running 50 psi of boost helps the little 2-liter crank out big power. The insanity starts after the jump.

Volkswagen MK1 Golf

Sometimes making an inexpensive car look like a million bucks takes nothing more than a good cameraman, a great editor and a bunch of love for the car. The Volkswagen MK1 Golf was never produced to be a performance car. It was a econo-box meant to replace the ever aging Beetle. However once enthusiasts realized it’s potential as a tuner car, well then, everything changed. Drop the car down a few inches, add a period correct set of wheels and some personal touches, and PRESTO! A budget built hot-rod that not only looks the business, but with the right parts, can be made into one helluva’ performer.

2013 Volkswagen Passat S: RideLust Review

2013 VW Passat S

Thumbs Up: Impressive build quality, surprising chassis, plenty of rear legroom.

Thumbs Down: Not quite the beauty it used to be.

Buy This Car If: You’re looking for an affordable German-designed family sedan.

Volkswagen’s Passat sedan has traditionally been a hard sell in the U.S. market. Though stylish and well-equipped, it got expensive quickly when options were piled on, and many buyers realized that the step up to an Audi A4 or a BMW 3 Series wouldn’t cost considerably more than a well-equipped VW Passat.
