Ford Bronco

Back in the early 1980’s there was no such thing as an SUV. There were merely cars, station wagons and trucks that had four-wheel drive. Up here in the Northeast those who knew well enough to buy a four-wheel drive vehicle would simply laugh as the rest of us lay stuck on the side of the road. It actually wasn’t until the mid-1980’s with the release of the compact Jeep Grand Cherokee that consumers actually got bit by the 4×4 bug. Once bitten however people seldom went back to their old ways and more importantly their old two-wheeled drive vehicles. Below is a listing of some 4×4’s (I mean SUV’s) from the 1980’s that can be credited with starting the whole SUV movement that we have today. Even though these babies weren’t overly complex, they did have the ability to get us through the snow and to work on time and they did it without all the electronic gizmos that we have today.

Range Rover Evoque Debuts In Paris

Range Rover Evoque

Another week, another series of “leaked” product introductions ahead of next week’s Paris Auto Show. This time it’s Range Rover, showing off the Evoque, which makes its official debut at the Paris event. Range Rover has ambitious plans for the Evoque, as the company hopes it will bring in an entirely new demographic of buyer. In keeping with current trends in both the E.U. and the U.S., Range Rover will seek to maximize interior content and luxury, while maintaining Range Rover’s legendary all weather capability. The Evoque is also smaller than existing Range Rover models, which the company hopes will broaden its appeal in urban environments.

Lebron James Has A Serious Car Jones

Lebron James Maybach 57S

A white Maybach 57S with 'King of Ohio' plates - I wonder who that could be.

Lebron James has some tough choices ahead of him. The NBA free agent is the darling of the league, and finds himself in the enviable position of being able to play for any team that can afford him. The most current rumors have him headed to Miami, which is just about ground zero for obscenely rich car guys. Even James’ custom Maybach 57 will be just another car on the streets of South Beach. Of course he could fool us all and sign with New York, where even his F430 would blend in with the crowd.

2011 Land Rover LRX Becomes 2012 Range Rover Evoque

2010 Range Rover Evoque

The LRX is dead, long live the LRX! Just don’t call it that; instead, it’s now called the Range Rover Evoque, and the picture you see was released today in advance of its official debut at the Paris Auto Show this October.

Land Rover isn’t telling us much about the baby of the family, but it’s expected to go on sale in Summer 2011, with some kind of powertrain at some kind of price point. I wish I could fill in the details, but you’ll have to check back for additional information,

Why Evoque? Inside Line quotes Land Rover’s managing director, Phil Popham as saying, “(the name) implies exclusivity and arouses emotions. Evoque is cosmopolitan and cross-continental, sophisticated and matches the car’s urban elegance”. Which explains why they didn’t go with my suggestion of “The Tata A Cup”

Have you achieved nirvana this week? Probably not, and it’s only Tuesday. Since the rest of the week is going to be a grind, kick back and enjoy a few more automotive haikus. They won’t get you any closer to nirvana (or Friday, for that matter), but they may make you chuckle. Do you have a better offer for a Tuesday?

I guess we should’ve called a tow truck…

Posted in Bizarre, Crashes, Range Rover, Subaru, Videos by MrAngry | May 16th, 2010 | 1 Response |

Intelligence, a quality that the guys in this video seem to possess none of. In viewing this video we see that there are two parties involved here. First we have the two gentlemen in the broken down Subaru WRX and second, we have their helpful buddy and towing savior in the Range Rover. The video starts off innocently enough with one friend giving another a tow. Friend one in the Range Rover is moving along (and quite briskly I might add), while friend two is simply piloting his down and out Subaru. Then, around a relatively sharp corner we find that friend two and Subaru driver extraordinaire has forgotten to turn the key to the accessory unlock position which unlocks the steering wheel. The result of this is a white knuckle ride down the shoulder that ends in a loud crunch as the already broken down Subaru comes in contact with a shoulder barrier. I honestly don’t know who is more at fault here. The Subaru guys or the guys driving the Range Rover. What do you guys think?

Don't you want to do the same thing in the desert with a Jeep?

The basic formula for a Japanese haiku is simple: it’s composed of three lines, the first having five syllables, the second having seven and the third having five again. You don’t get many words, but if you choose them carefully they say a lot.

2011 Range Rover To Be Based On Land Rover LRX Concept

According to sources, Land Rover has confirmed that the Land Rover LRX Concept that debuted at the 2009 Detroit Auto Show in January has been approved for production as the 2011MY Range Rover. Built on the same platform as the Freelander, the Range Rover LRX would sit beneath the Range Rover Sport as the smallest, most compact model in the Range Rover family. Although the 2011 Ranger Rover LRX will feature 5 doors (as opposed to the Concept’s 2) and a slightly revised front bumper, the basic design elements of the LRX Concept will remain unchanged in the production version.

In keeping with the Range Rover’s smaller, less-obtrusive theme, Land Rover Managing Director Phil Popham claims the 2011 Range Rover will be Land Rover’s “greenest” vehicle to date. At launch, Popham says the new Range Rover will produce under 150 g/km of CO2 emissions, which in terms of fuel-efficiency roughly translates to about 50 mpg. As research and development continues, Popham also hinted that a hybrid Range Rover could debut as well, cutting emissions even further to 120 g/km and boosting fuel consumption to around 60 mpg. 2010 Range Rover Sport Stubbornly Rejects Heritage

2010_Range_Rover_Sport

With all of the performance and mechanical updates to the 2010 Range Rover Sport, you might anticipate that Land Rover is re-energizing themselves by returning to their off-roading, go-anywhere roots. You’d be wrong. While built well, off-road capable, and with a huge amount of new engineering clearly on display, little of its expensive high-tech trappings are meant to make the Range Rover Sport any better off of hard pavement. Land Rover LRX Concept

The revitalization of Britain’s two most storied automakers by Indian-owned Tata Motors can not begin soon enough. Following news last month that the companies had lost a combined $501.5 million, it is not surprising that now they have announced that 300 jobs and production of the X-Type will be cut. Can the LRX stop the bleeding? Read More…
