When the Mercedes-Benz SLS came out in 2010 the motoring press stood up and took notice. This was not just any Mercedes mind you, but the modern interpretation of one of the greatest automobiles ever made, the 1953 Mercedes 300SL Gullwing. The new SLS was packed with the newest technology and of course, an engine made by the Gods. A 6.2-L V8 making 563 hp and 479 lb.ft of torque was stuffed under the hood giving us performance figures of 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds, a quarter-mile of 11.6 seconds and a top speed of 197 mph. Not too shabby. It’s now 2012 and the boys at Benz have decided to give the SLS the Black Series treatment. Click through and check it out!

Sometimes a car can become so much more than basic transportation. They provide us with memories, take us on exciting journeys, and sometimes they even let us down. However hold on to them long enough and they become members of our families, and when that happens we take care of them just like one of our own. Steve Minkoff is the owner of a 1960 Mercedes-Benz 220SE Cabriolet, a car that’s been in his family for almost 50 years. His father purchased the car for his mother for their 10 year anniversary and it’s been in the family ever since. It goes without saying that when it comes to old cars most of us are simply custodians until the next owner comes along, which is both wonderful and a shame at the same time. For Steve Minkoff though, the enjoyment of ownership is simply keeping his fathers legacy alive through his collection of wonderful automobiles.

In August of 1976 a gentleman by the name of Claude Lelouch created one of the first (and best) street racing videos of all time. It took place in the city of Paris, France and was filmed in a time before digital video and the internet. What that meant was that Lelouch made “C’etait un Rendezvous” for himself, not the masses, which is why now 36 years later it still as good as the day it was originally shot. Alex Roy of Live and Let Drive recently headed to Paris to not only revisit, but reconstruct the great “C’etait un Rendezvous”.
