Let’s face it: there aren’t many of us who can write a check for $30 million, which is what a 1936 Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic sold for last May. Designer Ralph Lauren already owns a Bugatti Atlantic, and he admires the car’s interior styling so much he’s created a watch influenced by it. The elm burl wood ring inside the watch face is based on the wood used in the car’s dashboard, while the matte black face and style of numbers matches the Atlantic’s instrumentation. The brushed steel case and exposed screws are influenced by the construction of the Bugatti, which emphasizes the style of hardware instead of just covering it up.

When I was a kid my Dad built me this cool wooden go-kart that utilized rope steering and had a lever style hand brake. Back then it was cool as hell and I can remember buzzing down this hill called Brewster Drive in my old neighborhood. I remember feeling a combination of speed, fear and excitement as I whistled down the hill with the only hope being that I’d be able to make the turn at the end and not plaster myself against the curb. Back then those were good times. Now however, as an adult, my entire perception of what speed is has changed. It used to be that 30 mph was fast, but now having been north of 180 mph, well, let’s just say that 30 mph just doesn’t do it for me anymore.

It’s got a 7.3-liter V12 that makes 750 hp, styling that would make Batman drool, a top speed of over 200 mph and a price tag of around $1.7 million. It’s the Aston Martin One-77 and it’s poised to take on the Bugatti Veyron as one of the most expensive cars on the planet earth. Here you can see the One-77 undergoing some testing and from what we can see, this car is going to be exhilarating. Aston Martin is one of those rare companies who has mastered the art of obtaining the perfect exhaust note. The One-77 sounds like a cross between a push rod V8 and a high revving V10, it’s also being driven quite aggressively which shows that this car is not just some show piece. Whether or not the One-77 will compete with such cars as the Bugatti Veyron or SSC Ultimate Aero has yet to be seen, what we do know however is that this car is taking Aston Martin into some uncharted hyper car territory.

I find it amazing that it’s already October. My crazy neighbors already have Halloween decorations up and up here in the northeast the leaves are already starting to fall from the trees. Soon we’ll be kicking back eating turkey and then it’s on to the big year end holidays. That also means that the shitty weather is going to set in and that all those uber fast super cars that we know and love are going to be put away for the winter. Before that happens though I thought I put up a list of the Fastest Street Legal Cars of All Time. Some are quite obvious but there may be one or two that you may not have thought of. Either way though these babies are the best of the best and unless you’ve got some kind of rocket strapped to your ass there is no way you’re going to catch them.

Remember when 450 hp in a car was unheard of? No… well, then you’re a very lucky person because it wasn’t too long ago that that number was reserved for cars with high 6-figure price tags. Take the iconic Ferrari F40 for example, back when it was released in 1987 it put out a then astonishing 471 hp from it’s twin-turbo V8 and was priced at around $400,000. Back then this was the pinnacle of what a super car was and by all accounts the motoring press didn’t think it would ever be topped. Nowadays though you can run out to your local Cadillac dealer and order up a car like the CTS-V, a four door sedan that makes 556 hp and more torque than the Ferrari could ever dream of.

I bet you didn’t think that BMW had anything in its arsenal that could possibly take on Bugatti’s ultimate road hammer, the Veyron. Some think that BMW couldn’t possibly build a four-wheeled machine with the same power, speed and presence as the Veyron and truth be told, those people would be right. What you need to realize is that the little fellas over in strudel-land have been hard at work over the last few years perfecting a machine that has the ability to put just about every road going machine to shame. It puts out a mere 190 hp, weighs in at 455-lbs and has a top speed of 191 mph and oh yeah, it only has two wheels. The BMW S1000 RR is a super bike in every sense of the word and if I had the money I can almost guarantee that there would be one in my driveway right now.

BJ: ’08 Bugatti Veyron

Is it a sign of the times or perhaps the worst depreciation in automotive history? At last weekend’s Barrett-Jackson auction in Las Vegas, a 2008 Bugatti Veyron with 11,800 miles sold for $700,000. New, the 2008 Veyron would have sold for roughly $1.7 million, which makes the cost per mile of this car a staggering $84.75. Just backing the car down the driveway would cost more than I currently have in my wallet. Still, I’m glad to see that some Veyron owners drive their cars on a somewhat regular basis, as the designers intended.

Here’s a newsflash: most men like watches, and most men own more than one. Even if they don’t wear them too often, most guys have a minimum of two watches in their collections: one for dress, and one for everything else. Beyond that, the sky’s the limit, and I know guys who own dozens of watches. Like cars, watches range from “affordable on any budget” to “sweet mother of God that’s more expensive than California beachfront property”. No joke: the most expensive men’s wristwatch that I’m aware of is a Patek Philippe Platinum World Time, which sells for $4 million (or about $450 if you know the right contacts in China, and don’t mind a really good knock-off).

The automotive rear wing is a major bone of contention amongst many car enthusiasts. Back in the day seeing a rear wing on an automobile usually meant power, speed and performance. Manufacturers included them into the cars design out of necessity and purpose. You see once upon an automotive time the rear wing meant something. It showed that an automobile was special and that from a performance standpoint, you simply shouldn’t fuck with it. Today however times have changed and we as enthusiasts have fallen into the dark ages of the wing. In recent years it has become the icon of the import crowd, where the bigger the wing usually meant the smaller the winky. What I’d like to do here today is bring back to you, the readers some of the greatest rear wings in automotive history. Wings, that were put on their cars not as an afterthought, but as an integral part of the original design. These wings have stood the test of time and will always be looked upon as having a true place in automotive history.

Every time you think that the world can’t get any more outrageous, someone has to come along and prove you wrong. It’s been said that the wristwatch is going out of style thanks to the advent of the cell phone. Men are supposedly not wearing their time pieces anymore as they feel there is no need because nowadays everything is being done via smart phones, this apparently includes telling the time. Personally I think this is all BS, as I haven’t visually seen a decline in the wristwatch wearing population. And unless your name is Liberace than you, as a man have no real business wearing jewelry, watches however are the exception to the rule.
