1979PontiacTransAm_5

Stunning silver paint, T-tops, turbo style wheels, and a big screaming chicken on the hood. These were the basic elements of the 10th Anniversary 1979 Pontiac Trans Am. This is about as “in your face” as an American car could get in 1979. The second generation Trans Am, made famous by movies like “Cannonball” and “Smokey and the Bandit” is one of those rare cars that adolescent dreams were made of. Power came from a 400 cubic-inch V8 that was coupled to a 4-Speed transmission. With 220 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque this was no stump puller, however they did handle well if equipped with the WS6 suspension package. The one you are viewing here has a mere 11,500 miles on the clock from new and comes with a very high “Buy it Now” price tag of $43,995.00. If however you’re looking to relive some of your old glory days from the 1970′s, well then, this may just be the best chance you’re ever going to get. A girl, the Internet, and her Pontiac Fiero.

Kathryn DiMaria Pontiac Fiero

Thank God for young minds, the will to drive cars, and 12 year-old Kathryn DiMaria. This is the girl who a few years ago went up to her Mom and Dad and asked them for permission to rebuild, get this, a 1986 Pontiac Fiero. At first her parents looked at her sideways, I mean 12 year-old girls should be playing with dolls, not rebuilding 26 year-old sports cars, right? However Kathryn is not just any girl. In fact not only has she been rebuilding the little two-seater with the help of her family and friends, but she’s become an inspiration to all those around her.

eBay Deal of the Week: 1989 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am GTA

1989 Pontiac Trans Am GTA

We all know that the 1980′s and even the early 1990′s we’re dismal from a performance standpoint for American made automobiles. Sure there were some shining stars like the 5.0-liter Mustangs and Grand Nationals, but other than that, the American muscle car was all but dead. When it came to handling though, well that was another story entirely. This is a 1989 Pontiac Trans Am GTA, a car that was on par with some of the best handlers of the era. It sports a 5.0L 305 cu. inch V8 that produces 225 hp and 295 lb.ft of torque and has a paltry 7,088 original miles on it from new. These cars in this condition don’t come up too often, so make sure to click through and to check out more photos or go directly to the Ebay ad here.

1958 Pontiac Bonneville Laurentian

There are some rides out there that are simply eye-catchers. Take for instance this wickedly cool 1958 Pontiac Bonneville Laurentian that I recently spied on eBay. It sports full air suspension from RideTech, Coys Wheels and a nice little (and original) 283 V8 backed by an ever reliable 2-speed powerglide transmission. Here’s the deal people – it’s now summertime, which means it’s beach time, which equates to having fun. That means you guys should seriously check this sucker out and bid, because if you don’t, I just may have to. Seriously… I’m LOVING this thing!!

Buford T. Justice: Greatest Fictional Lawman Ever!

Buford T. Justice

He’s big, gruff and the creator of some of the best one-liners in all of movie history. He’s Sheriff Buford T. Justice and in 1977 he rolled on to movie screens across the country in a two hour Trans Am commercial known as “Smokey and the Bandit”. If you’re a car guy and you’ve never seen this flick then you should be ashamed of yourself. Hell, in my opinion it should’ve won an Oscar! Now click through and watch the video you sumbitch!

“There is no way, no way, that you could come from my loins. Soon as I get home, the first thing I’m gonna do is punch your momma in the mouth.” - Buford T. Justice

How Loud is Too Loud?

Pontiac Trans Am

The 1979 Pontiac Trans Am, the Lamborghini Countach and the 1969 Dodge Daytona. Three cars that exhibit characters that are completely outlandish for any automobile of any era. The Trans Am for example, with its big screaming chicken on the hood and t-topped roof is reminiscent of the 1970′s disco scene. The Countach simply screams “I LOVE COCAINE” and the Dodge Daytona, well that was a car designed to go fast when go fast technology didn’t even exist. My point is this; you can still, if you have the means go out and pick-up any one of these cars and drive them all the time.

The 2012 Trans Am. Image: Trans America Muscle

If you’ve worn black in mourning every day since the demise of Pontiac, and you wish that someone would build a decent Trans Am replica from the new Camaro, here’s some good news for you. Trans America Muscle builds new Trans Am, and I’ve got to say the cars look fantastic. They’re not inexpensive, and the car shown in the Street Fire video below would sticker out at $59,500. Assuming that includes the price of a 2012 Camaro SS, that’s a reasonable price to ask. Read More…

$21,990.00 For A Used Fiero?

1988 Pontiac Fiero GT

It’s true. A used car dealer in Costa Mesa, CA is offering a used, low mileage (13,500) 1988 Pontiac Fiero GT for $21,990.00. The car is a one owner vehicle and is actually in pretty darn good shape thanks to the owners meticulous care. 1988 was the last year of the Fiero and in true GM fashion, they killed it off right as it was getting good. It was mid-engine, had great balance and was actually a pretty good looking little car. Granted it’s no hot rod by today’s standards, but for back in the day this little bugger moved along pretty damn good. Click through for more pictures.

Retro Innovator: Pontiac Tempest

Posted in History, Pontiac by Dustin Driver | July 1st, 2011 | Leave a Reply |

The Pontiac Tempest is known for its tumultuous 400-cubic-inch V8, for spewing clouds of atomized rubber and partially combusted gasoline, for altering weather patterns and generally being a kick-ass muscle car. But it started life as a funky little economy car created by the legendary John DeLorean. Read More…
