2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland

Thumbs Up: Great ride quality coupled with go-anywhere capability.

Thumbs Down: Contrasting dash stitching creates distratcting glare.

Buy This Car If: You’re looking for the best value in a near-luxury SUV.

In the not-too-distant past, the words “luxury” and “SUV” were mutually exclusive. Luxury cars offered cushy-but-isolated rides and enveloped passengers in supple leather seats, isolated in tomb-like silence from the outside world. SUVs, on the other hand, were ladder-frame trucks designed to get you out where the busses don’t run, with few concessions to comfort or amenities. Read More…

Jeep Red Jacket

Ain’t nuthin’ wrong with a good old American Jeep, some big tires and a talk show host who loves cars. At this point we all know that Jay Leno’s Garage is a pretty cool place and that from time to time he gets in some pretty interesting rides. However the majority of these suckers are usually high-dollar exotics or uber rare one-off creations. On this episode though Jay decides to go with something that’s a little out of his comfort zone by way of a hopped up Jeep know as the Red Jacket that was built by Venchurs Vehicle Systems.

Jeep Jump

If you’re a man then you already know that we come pre-programmed from the womb with a little bit of stupid inside us. As children we try any number of ways to kill ourselves on a daily basis without ever thinking of the consequences. As adults, we do the same thing, but we just count on our medical insurance to bail us out if we really screw ourselves up. There are people however who are always reaching for the gold medal in the stupidity challenge which is why this video is being brought to you today. Once again we are treated to the antics of the N.A.R. (North American Redneck) in their true backwoods habitat. This time however they’re running through the countryside in a few jacked-up Jeeps intent on ending their lives by using the least amount of their brains possible.

2012 Jeep SRT8

It’s no secret that Robbie Gordon is one helluva driver. He’s run NASCAR, Baja, IMSA as well as just about every other series out there. On his off-time though he also likes to, get this… play with cars, or in this case a Jeep. The Smoking Tire recently posted some footage of Robbie piloting a new 2012 Jeep SRT8 on the Bullrun Rally that ran earlier this year. Robbie had three friends in tow who were, for the most part, pretty composed, until that is, Robbie pushed the go-pedal to the floor. Click through for the video and fast-forward to the 7:06 mark to see where the fun really begins.

Is The Jeep Wrangler The Toughest Vehicle In The World?

Jeep is proclaiming its “Call of Duty – Modern Warfare 3 Edition” Jeep Wrangler the toughest vehicle in the world, and the staged footage in the video below would tend to support that. On the other hand, staged footage isn’t real life, just like being able to smoke the enemy in COD doesn’t make you a stone cold killer. Read More…

2012 Jeep Cherokee SRT8

Our automotive buddy and Ridelust contributor Scott Vandekerckhove pinged me about a story he did for Modern Mopar Magazine. It’s about the new 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 and well… let’s just say that this new Jeep is one hammer of an SUV that’s ready to take on the world’s best!

Try to expand your vision of the future for just a bit. Imagine a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by warfare where buildings lie in ruin and vegetation has begun to spread wildly.

Streets and highways are riddled with abandoned vehicles vacated by their passengers in an escape from sheer terror. Something very bad happened here.

How Does The First Jeep CJ Stack Up Against The 2012 Wrangler?

Posted in 4x4, Educational, Jeep by Kurt Ernst | August 30th, 2011 | Leave a Reply |

The Jeep Wrangler is one of the few vehicles on the market today that can trace its roots all the way back to the 1940s. Following World War II, the civilian version of the Jeep CJ was launched, but it bears little resemblance to the Jeep Wrangler of today. Modern Jeeps come chock full of amenities like air conditioning and audio systems, while the original Jeeps has four wheels, an engine and two differentials. As for safety equipment, the original Jeep didn’t even have seat belts, let alone air bags. Read More…

2012 Jeep Cherokee SRT8 vs. 2011 Porsche Cayenne Turbo

Jeep SRT8 vs Porsche Cayenne Turbo

One is $54,470 and the other $121,120. One goes 0-60 mph in 5.1 seconds, the other in 4.6 seconds. Lastly, one has a naturally aspirated 6.4-liter V8 making 470 hp and the other a twin-turbocharged V8 making 500 hp. These are the numbers for the 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 and the 2011 Porsche Cayenne Turbo, and to say these figures are impressive would be an understatement. You see what these big four wheel drive behemoths are capable of is something that is quite astonishing, for on any given day they have the ability to put the hurt on 98% of the road going sports cars out there. These are giggle machines. They’re linebackers with the ability to also run the hurdles and or sprint the 100 meters with ease. Sure one is American and the other German, but quite honestly, who cares as either one of these pack mules will have you smiling from the moment you get in them, to the moment you get out. Maserati Grand Cherokee To Be Built In Detroit

Chuck Berry penned these lyrics made famous by George Thorogood: “I met a German girl in England who was going to school in France, said we danced the Mississippi at an Alpha Kappa dance.” It would appear that the tale of the upcoming Maserati SUV is no less confusing, since it involves Maserati, Jeep, Italy and Detroit. Here’s what we know: Maserati will build their own SUV, based on the Jeep Grand Cherokee, and it will be assembled in Chrysler’s Jefferson North assembly plant in Detroit. Read More…
