2014 Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel vs 2013 Volkswagen Touareg

Jeep Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel

10 years ago if you were to tell someone that they needed to pay over $50K for a Jeep Grand Cherokee, they’d probably laugh at you. This however isn’t 10 years ago, it’s 2013 and this new Jeep Cherokee EcoDiesel is hands-down worth every penny. Not long ago I had the opportunity to test drive the new Grand Cherokee EcoDiesel in Austin, TX and truth be told, it’s a wonderful vehicle. The 2013 Volkswagen Touareg is also a decent SUV. Not wonderful mind you, but decent. The interior feels bland and stagnant compared to the Grand Cherokee, but on the road it’s a little more compliant in my opinion. Motor Trend’s Jonny Lieberman recently got these two trucks together for a little off-road showdown and I’m happy to say that his conclusions about both vehicles were very similar to my own.

Ugly Jeep

Every automobile enthusiast out there has that one car or truck that they look upon as their holy grail. It’s the vehicle that lit the spark under their bottom and got them revved up about anything with an engine. For Fred Williams, host of Dirt Everyday on MotorTrend’s Youtube channel, that vehicle happened to be a beat up 1951 Jeep CJ3a that he saw in a magazine way back in 1989. It was dirty and rough around the edges, but it worked flawlessly and acted as the off-road catalyst for Fred. Check it out after the jump.

Is there really a Jeep Wrangler in there?

Jeep Wrangler Custom

Living in California means that seeing raised pickup trucks and Jeeps on the road is very common. There are loads of off-road trails, dunes and deserts here that would satisfy even the freakiest of off-road fantasies. This modified Jeep Wrangler however (seen in Rabat, Morocco) completely takes the cake as far as the most outlandish custom I’ve seen. Apparently owned by a shaikh of the Arab Emirates, this it has an extended wheelbase, what looks to be 42-inch tires and a grille that came off of a Freightliner semi-truck. Is it cool? No, no it’s not. I do however have to give the guy an A+ for effort though.

2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited 4×4: Ridelust Review

2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited

The Jeep Cherokee has been around in one form or another since 1974. It was the first true mainstream SUV and the vehicle that got Americans hooked on the idea that there were other transportation options then the family station wagon. The big Cherokees of yesteryear roamed the streets until the Wagoneer went out of production in 1991, right around the time the Grand Cherokee came to market. It was smaller, lighter and more in tune with the now growing SUV segment, and since its introduction in 1992 it’s been a runaway hit.

1000 hp Jeep SRT8

If you would have asked me 10 years ago if you’d be seeing reliable 1,000 horsepower tuner cars and trucks roaming the streets I’d have laughed at you. Nowadays though they seem to be around every corner. Cars like the Nissan GT-R, Chevrolet Corvette and Dodge Viper routinely see these numbers and have been known to click off quarter mile times in the 8-second range. But what about a Jeep? Namely the Jeep SRT8. Back when they were released in 2006 these 5,000 lb all-wheel drive lumps came shod with a 6.1-liter HEMI V8 that made 425 hp and 420 lb-ft of torque. However with A LOT of tuning, some ingenuity and a butt-load of cash there are those who have managed to break the magic 1,000 hp number. Click through and check it out.

2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland: RideLust Review

2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland

Thumbs Up: Great ride quality coupled with go-anywhere capability.

Thumbs Down: Contrasting dash stitching creates distratcting glare.

Buy This Car If: You’re looking for the best value in a near-luxury SUV.

In the not-too-distant past, the words “luxury” and “SUV” were mutually exclusive. Luxury cars offered cushy-but-isolated rides and enveloped passengers in supple leather seats, isolated in tomb-like silence from the outside world. SUVs, on the other hand, were ladder-frame trucks designed to get you out where the busses don’t run, with few concessions to comfort or amenities. Read More…

Jeep Red Jacket

Ain’t nuthin’ wrong with a good old American Jeep, some big tires and a talk show host who loves cars. At this point we all know that Jay Leno’s Garage is a pretty cool place and that from time to time he gets in some pretty interesting rides. However the majority of these suckers are usually high-dollar exotics or uber rare one-off creations. On this episode though Jay decides to go with something that’s a little out of his comfort zone by way of a hopped up Jeep know as the Red Jacket that was built by Venchurs Vehicle Systems.

Jeep Jump

If you’re a man then you already know that we come pre-programmed from the womb with a little bit of stupid inside us. As children we try any number of ways to kill ourselves on a daily basis without ever thinking of the consequences. As adults, we do the same thing, but we just count on our medical insurance to bail us out if we really screw ourselves up. There are people however who are always reaching for the gold medal in the stupidity challenge which is why this video is being brought to you today. Once again we are treated to the antics of the N.A.R. (North American Redneck) in their true backwoods habitat. This time however they’re running through the countryside in a few jacked-up Jeeps intent on ending their lives by using the least amount of their brains possible.
