So here it is. Ford’s littlest big gun, the new 2014 Ford Fiesta ST. It’s powered by a 1.6-liter EcoBoost four cylinder that generates 197 hp and 214 lb-ft of torque. Not stump-pulling power mind you, but enough grunt to bring a smile to your face, especially if you’re rowing through the six-speed manual transmission. Ford of Europe recently released this video of the new Fiesta ST being flogged by David Put, a dynamics specialist for Ford at the legendary Lommel course in Belgium. Check it out after the jump.

Driving and oddball car in an arena where it has no business being is one of the greatest feelings in the known universe. For instance, when I used to take my 1968 Dodge Charger to the race track and school C5 Corvettes, the owners would simply come away dumbfounded. I would imagine that’s just how pro-racer, Top Gear host and all around hoon Tanner Foust felt when he decided to sling a Ford SVT Raptor around Germany’s famed Nurburgring. Is it totally absurd? Yep… it sure is, but honestly who cares, as this must have been one epic experience.

They’ve been transformed into everything from light-to-light drag and open road cars, to streamlined speed machines that have run flat-out at places like the Bonneville Salt Flats. The one you are about to see however has been transformed into something that I don’t even think Henry Ford could’ve imagined. Multimatic-designed, a company that specializes in advanced suspension systems, has recently developed an in-wheel suspension system that is one of the trickest things we’ve ever seen. Traction, power and balls. That’s what it takes to be a good drag racer these days. Have too much of one and not enough of the other though, and things can sometimes go south. If however you’ve got too much of all of the above, well then that can also be a detriment. Racer Jere Etheridge recently found this out when piloting what looks to be a late model Mustang down the 1,320. Not only did he have traction and power, but he also had the balls to stay in it the entire run making for one of the most exciting passes I’ve ever seen. Don’t believe me? They were meant to go fast, get looks and at days end, announce to the world that you had arrived in style. The truth is though, in the last 60 years not a whole lot has changed. Sure technology has advanced, but deep down the basic DNA has always remained the same. The 1951 Ford Custom Club Coupe is the quintessential old school business coupe. It’s got great lines, a simplistic interior and when maintained properly, will literally run forever. Owner Eric Ralle has been the caretaker of this all original example for the past 27 years and is very proud of the fact that – “it’s just the way Henry Ford built in back in 1950.”

Yes Eric, it most certainly is.

It’s got no roof, no hood and tires that are about as wide as a pencil. Handling, braking and climate control are also not in its resume, let alone anywhere near this vehicle. This is a Ford Model A, a car that is basically an engine with some external plumbing equipment bolted on for good measure. To most people it looks unfinished, but to its owner, this old car is just perfect.
