2014 Corvette

There is something about hearing John Davis’s voice that warms the cockles of my heart. You see Mr. Davis has been the face of MotorWeek since he created the series back in 1981. His reviews and opinions are honest and when he speaks, those in the motoring world listen. Recently MotorWeek had a chance to take a “Quick Spin” in a new 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray while out in sunny California and lucky for us, they filmed it!

Vette VS Viper

The 2013 SRT Viper and the 2014 Corvette Stingray, the two greatest American sports cars ever created. The Corvette is all new for 2014 and sports a 460 hp V8, is capable of running to 60 mph in a scant 3.8-seconds and gets an astonishing 29 mpg on the HWY. The 2013 SRT Viper on the other hand gets an 8.4-liter V10 that makes 640 hp, will also get to 60 mph in 3.8-seconds, but gets only 18 mpg HWY. Oh, and it also cost about 30k more. So, which American super car takes the honors of being the best? Inside Line recently got these two together to find out.

Hobaugh Vette

When did you first realize that you loved cars? Maybe it was the time you caught a glimpse of a Ferrari as you were sitting in the back of your parents minivan. Or maybe it happened after watching your older brother do a burnout in his rusted out Camaro. For owner Brian Hobaugh, his love of cars started thanks to his Dad and a certain 1965 Chevrolet Corvette that’s been in their family for over 30 years.

Nitro Warriors 2

Nitro Warriors is a stop motion animated car chase that first appeared in 2012. It featured an old Mach 1 Mustang running from the police in a very James Bond-ish style. Now, almost 1 year later, Nitro Warriors 2 is out and with it we’re treated to more amazing stop motion animation, a very creative imagination, and an ending that just keeps us wanting more.

Corvette C7 Burnouts

The new 2014 Corvette is a beast of a machine. Under the bonnet it packs a 460 horsepower V8 that produces 465 lb.-ft of torque and a 0-60 mph time of under 4-seconds. It’s got a brand new look, a fully redesigned interior (thank you GOD!) and with numbers for a base car with the Z51 package rivaling that of most super cars, it may just be the greatest car America has ever produced. Oh… it also does some WICKED burnouts and brake stands as demonstrated here by Smoking Tire host Matt Farah.

2014 Corvette Stingray

The 2014 C7 Chevrolet Corvette is one of the most anticipated cars of the last 10 years. Where the C6 was a great car, Chevrolet sought to make the C7 an outstanding one. One look at the numbers will tell you it’s pretty hardcore. For instance the base model Corvette Stingray with the Z51 package pumps out 460 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque, runs 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds and has a top speed upwards of 190 mph. Not to shabby for a car that costs under $70,000. Motor Trends Carlos Lago recently got his hands on this new Stingray and came away pretty impressed! Check it out after the jump.

Mid-Engine Crown Corvair: Porsche Cayman Fighter

1965 Corvair Crown V8

Wouldn’t it have been great if the United States had one truly great mid-engine sports car? I mean yes, there was the Ford GT40, Ford GT and of course the Pontiac Fiero (that sucked though), but just imagine if American manufacturers really had their act together and created something awesome. Chuck Rust, the owner of this 1965 Corvair Crown V8, knew that the little Chevy had great potential and that with A LOT of work (and some ingenuity), it could be turn into something outstanding. This car is about fun, performance and proving people wrong. It sounds outstanding, has some of the best lines out there, and thanks to a little funky paint and graphic work from its’ owner, has a presence that few cars can match. One of the most well balanced performers we’ve ever driven, this Corvair Crown had us grinning from ear to ear from the first moment we turned the key.

1964 Corvette XP-819: Jay Leno’s Garage

Corvette XP-19

Since the Corvette’s inception in 1953, there have been rumors swirling around the brand that one day, a rear or mid-engine car may actually pop up. Understand now that the United States has only made two rear/mid engine cars; the Pontiac Fiero and the Chevrolet Corvair. However in 1964 the Corvette XP-819 prototype was developed and man-O-man would this have been an interesting car. The engine was mounted behind the rear wheels like a Porsche 911, it had urethane safety bumpers, a rack & pinon steering rack and a one piece clam shell hood. All amazingly innovative stuff for 1964. Owner Mike Yager showed off his one-off rear-engined prototype at this years Amelia Island show and to say the car was amazing would be an understatement.

2014 Corvette Stingray Tech Specs

2014 Corvette Stingray

We all expected the new 2014 Corvette Stingray to be a beast of a car, but I’ve got to admit that the boys over at GM have really outdone themselves. The new 6.2L V8 engine for instance produces 455 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. It costs a mere $51,995.00 (a bargain), comes with a set of real seats, a new seven-speed manual with Active Rev Match technology, composite and carbon-fiber body panels, hydroformed aluminum frame with aluminum and magnesium structural and chassis components AND a perfect 50/50 weight distribution. What this all means is that for under 55k you will now be able to have a car that will (most likely) be able to go head-to-head (in stock form mind you) with some of the baddest automobiles the planet Earth has to offer.

Well done GM!!
