Now this is what I like to see! People reading and taking action to further their love for the automobile. Yesterday I posted up a piece on “What’s Your Favorite Photo? ” and honk my hooter if the masses haven’t started to respond. You see, this is why I love my job…

• John William’s 1998 Ford Ranger:

1998 Ford Ranger

“I attached a picture of my baby, it’s a 98′ Ranger with nothing on it but a CD player. I still love it though. I drove almost an hour to a small cliff near Malibu, California to take this photo. I made the sunset just in time.”

Dude, I’m totally jealous you live in CA… NY sucks right now so enjoy that weather.

2002 VW Jetta

Winters are hard in Maine, hard enough to make men do crazy things. Things like asking, “How much horsepower can I get from a 1.8 liter VW turbocharged motor and still keep it drivable on the street?”

Daytona

Everyone who owns and automobile can appreciate the importance of a good picture. Whether your ride is in motion or just standing still, having a great photograph of your car is something to be proud of. They key to this however is how do you actually take one. Me, I usually just rely on luck or some really talented friends. I’ve taken loads of photo’s of my cars over the years, but there are only a handful that I would even consider to be good ones.

1970 Chevy C10 Pickup

I love the lines of the early 1970s GM pickups, probably because my dad had a 1972 GMC for a shop truck. I learned to drive a column shifter on that beast, and mastered the art of retrieving customer’s broken down cars with a push bumper mounted on the front.

Reader’s Rides: Jackie’s 1964 Chevy Impala SS

1964 Chevy Impala SS

In 1964, Chevy offered the Impala SS in two door coupe and convertible models. Buyers could opt for any engine in the Impala lineup, ranging from the 235 cubic inch ‘Turbo Thrift’ inline six up to the ground-pounding 409 cubic inch ‘Turbo Thrust’ V8. The SS name referred to the appearance package (which included an upgraded interior and machine turned aluminum trim) and didn’t necessarily indicate that the car was a threat at the drag strip.

2001 Mustang GT Convertible

I’ve always had a thing for Mustangs, which I can trace back to my cousin’s 1970 Mach 1. I know there are faster cars out there, I know there are better handling cars out there, but there’s something about a well built ‘Stang that just sets it apart. Plus, in my mind, no one builds a better sounding V8 than Ford (well, Ferrari maybe).

Always park behind The Opium Den...

In 1999, Ford began showing a concept car loosely based on the original Thunderbird two seat roadster, but with modernized styling. Public response at auto shows was overwhelming, so Ford gave the project a green light and began development. By utilizing an existing platform, shared with the Lincoln LS and the Jaguar S-Type, and an existing V8 from Jaguar, Ford was able to bring the car to market in just three years.

Scion Xb

Beautiful paint, nice drop.

Chris Roberts sent in pics of his one-of-a-kind Scion Xb. Tasteful on the outside in pearlescent Lamborghini blue and black paint, it’s the interior that sets this Xb apart.

2006 Dodge Magnum SXT

Not all classics are old, as Ron Small’s 2006 Dodge Magnum illustrates perfectly. Like our own Mr. Angry, I’ve got a place in my heart for these cars, grossly underappreciated when new. Built on the Chrysler LX platform (shared by the successful Chrysler 300), Magnums were available in models ranging from ‘grocery getter’ (SE, with a 190 hp V6) to ‘holy crap what the hell just passed us’ (SRT-8, with the 425 hp Hemi motor). For added versatility, AWD was an available option on SXT and RT models, making the car more appealing to buyers in northern states. Manufactured for only four model years, Chrysler declared that the Magnum was not “earning its keep” and halted production in March of 2008. Magnums are destined to be collectible, as they represent one of the high points in the joint venture between Daimler and Chrysler.

1973 BMW 3.0 CS

Adam Wickstead sent in pics of his very lustworthy 1973 BMW 3.0 CS. Built by Karmann for BMW, the 3.0 CS featured a 2985cc motor with dual carbs good for 180 horsepower. The CS line helped to establish BMW as a driver’s car, largely due to their success in European Touring Car racing.
