Ken Block goes fishing… Dirt fishing that is.

Dirt Fish Rally School

It’s good to see that gymkhana guru Ken Block understands that he still needs improvement when it comes to open road and WRC style rallying. I mean there is no question that the guys got some serious skills, but I think he may have bitten off a little more than he could chew when he first entered WRC. This is why I’m finding it pretty cool that he went to Snoqualmie Falls, WA and the Dirt Fish Rally School to get in a little practice in his HVHF Ford Fiesta. Now, for those that don’t know, Snoqualmie Falls, Washington is the same place that the TV series Twin Peaks was filmed back in the early 90′s. Even though it was a good show, it unfortunately didn’t make it past 2 seasons. Regardless though, watching Block slide his Fiesta around a dirt course in the same place the TV series was filmed is just as entertaining as it’s always been.

Bugatti Veyron VS Nissan GT-R

The Nissan GT-R is one of those rare cars that has the ability to put the hurt on just about any super car out there. They make big power, are ungodly fast and have the ability to make even the most mundane driver look like a rock star behind the wheel. Now just imagine that you’re a GT-R owner at your favorite drag strip for a test and tune night. On any other day you’d pull up to the lights, watch the tree and at the end of the 1,320 you’d become the evenings champion. This however is not that night. You see tonight there’s a guy next to you with an even bigger gun. Sure it cost over 10 times as much, but at days end, there’s a reason. Enter the 1,000 + hp Bugatti Veyron, a car that’s just as comfortable cruising at 75 mph as it is maxing out at over 250 mph. The GT-R however is no slouch, in fact when you see the results of this run you may in fact be asking yourself what would happen if Nissan built a $1-million super car. Vintage Racing at Australia’s Bad-Ass Bathurst Raceway…

Vintage Racing at Bathurst

There’s just nothing quite like the sound of thundering V8′s ripping around a race track. Sure turbo-4′s and well-tuned V6′s sound ok, but bang for the buck, gimme a horsepower thumping push-rod V8 any day of the week. This video was shot down at Australia’s Bathurst Raceway as part of their Touring Car Masters road race. Vintage Chevrolet Camaro’s, Holdens, Ford Mustang’s can be seen doing battle in what some would consider the best kind of racing out there. This was no exhibition race either, as all of the drivers were wringing the snot out of their rides. Remember, these are 40-year old muscle cars that are clad with leaf springs out back and carburetor-ed V8′s up front, yet by the performance they’re displaying you’d never know it. Click through for the video and get ready to enjoy 15-mins of the best fender to fender vintage road racing that you’re ever likely to see.

Vintage Crash Proves Roll Cages Are Good.

Vintage Triumph Spitfire

It’s true, even old vintage iron can come back to bite you in the ass if you’re not careful. Believe me, old cars are great and provide a level of excitement that’s hard to match. However, as a general rule of thumb, when something goes bad with these babies, it usually goes bad fast and violently. This Triumph Spitfire did just that when something went seriously wrong on track, thus sending its owner tumbling out of control. Thankfully the car was fully caged and thus saved the drivers life, however after watching the video, I can’t really tell what made the car lose it. I didn’t see any imperfections on the track, nor did I see any kind of driver error, so with that being said, am I missing something? What do you guys think?

Nissan Juke VS Datsun 510: Dirt Trackin’!

Datsun 510 VS Nissan Juke

The 1971 Datsun 510 was a small econobox of a car that was built before the econobox was in fashion. It got decent gas mileage, had OK looks for it’s time, and basically served as decent reliable transportation for those who wanted an alternative to the big American land yachts that roamed the freeways. The 2011 Nissan Juke is a pint-sized, turbocharged, all-wheel drive SUV that looks like it got hit in the face with a bucket, BUT for some miraculous reason, is still plenty fun to drive. Edmunds Inside Line recently pitted these two cousins against each other on a 1.3 mile gravel course to see which was the fastest, the 39-year old 510 or the brand new and butt-crack ugly, Nissan Juke.

Hill Climbing

If there is one thing I’ve learned from my short time living in Northern California it’s that everything, and I mean everything, takes place out doors. Not only is the weather simply astonishing, but it makes you want to go out and partake in sports you’ve never before dreamed of. Now granted, I’ve run my share of motorcycles, however the sport of off-road hill climbing is something that I’ve yet to try. “Elevate 2″ brings together some of the best hill climbers in the world in the hopes of reigniting a passion for a sport whose flame has been diminishing over the years. Riders like Bret Peterson, Jason Smith, Ken Bergquist and Max Simmons are spearheading an effort by creating videos like the one you are about to see. It’s a solid 20-minutes long, but if you’re a motorcycle fan, then it’s absolutely worth your time.

Porsche GT3 RS Rally Porn is Ecstasy on Four Wheels

Porsche GT3 RS

There is no question that the Porsche GT3 RS is one of, if not the most impressive track beast you can purchase off the showroom floor. It comes stock with a 3.8-liter flat-six that makes 450 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque, as well as handling characteristics that have garnered praise from every motor-journalist and race car driver on the planet. In short, the Porsche GT3 RS is a staggering automobile in terms of performance and all out capability which is why so many hardcore track junkies purchase them. Autoblog recently posted this video containing 22-minutes of Porsche porn, and it was so good that I simply had to give it a plug here on Ridelust. You may think that 22-minutes is long for an internet video, but trust me on this one, it’s worth every second of your time.

Just make sure to turn up your speakers!

Street Racing: You’re Doing It Wrong

Here’s the scenario: a C5 Corvette throws down against a C6 Corvette at a traffic light in The Woodlands, Texas. What happens next is pure stupidity, since drag racing into a corner when you haven’t mastered the basics of car control isn’t likely to end well. The video’s been making the rounds, so our apologies if you’ve already seen the Thanksgiving eve crash. Read More…

Drag Strip Run Goes Horribly Wrong for Firebird Driver

Posted in Crashes, Funny, General, Hoonage, Racing, Videos by MrAngry | November 28th, 2011 | 2 Responses |

Firebird Crash

If you’ve ever been drag racing then you know that the potential for disaster can be quite high. Cars are tuned within an inch of their lives in order to get them down the 1,320. For some people drag racing is just a casual weekend hobby, but for others like Eric Peterson, it’s a way of life. Recently Peterson was running his classic 1,500 horsepower Firebird at a drag-way in Las Vegas, Nevada when a loss of control led to one of the most frightening crashes I’ve seen in some time. About 1/8th the way down the track the Firebird loses control and plows dead-on into the retaining wall knocking Peterson unconscious. In the same instance the throttle on the 1,500 hp monster gets stuck wide-open, leaving the car in a constant state of flux before emergency workers can get to it. For onlookers and fellow drivers alike a scenario like this reminds us that drag racing can be a deadly sport. Thankfully Eric Peterson survived the crash, but I have a feeling it will be quite some time before the effects of it will be forgotten.
