Pure Porsche Porn: Rennsport Reunion IV

Posted in Event Coverage, Porsche, Videos by Kurt Ernst | November 3rd, 2011 | 2 Responses |

Porsche’s fourth Rennsport Reunion was held a few weeks back at Laguna Seca, and the footage in the video below is some of the best I’ve ever seen. Unfortunately, the music of Porsche engines coming on cam is drowned out by a cheesy 1970’s porn-flick sound track, which (again) makes me wonder why manufacturers feel compelled to play music that no one likes instead of record the engine sounds that enthusiasts want to hear. Leh Keen Teaches You How To Film Car Videos

Posted in Cool Stuff, Porsche, Top of the Heap, Videos by Kurt Ernst | October 28th, 2011 | 1 Response |

Just in case you’ve never heard the name Leh Keen, we’ll tell you up front that he’s faster than you are. As a professional racer and former Grand-Am GT champion, Keen has driven just about any track you can name, in almost any car you can imagine. Best of all, people pay him money to drive cars, and these days his check comes from Brumos Racing, where he drives the #59 Porsche 911 GT3 with co-driver Andrew Davis. Read More…

Porsche 997 GT3 RS Vs BMW S1000RR

Posted in BMW, European Rides, General, Hoonage, Porsche, Racing, Rides, Videos by MrAngry | October 3rd, 2011 | 2 Responses |

BMW vs Porsche

The 2007 Porsche GT3 RS has 415 bhp, 300 lb-ft of torque and tops out at 193 mph. The 2011 BMW S1000RR has 193 bhp, 83 lb-ft of torque and tops out at 189 mph, BUT it only has two wheels. For some, the Porsche will always be the ultimate in terms of automotive expression and performance. For others though, the thrill gained from dragging a knee through a corner on a big-bore liter bike is a feeling that can never be duplicated. Man has been pitting cars and motorcycles against each other since the two were invented, and with each contest the opinion on which is more fun changes. Personally, I’d opt for the Porsche since my reckless days are pretty much behind me, but I can say from experience that riding a super-bike like BMW’s S1000RR is something that will not only invigorate the senses, but cleanse the soul. Frankfurt Motor Show: The Future of Motorsports

Porsche Racing

“Porsche. There is no substitute”. When Tom Cruise uttered those words in 1983′s “Risky Business” he wasn’t kidding. You see Porsche is one of those rare manufacturers who actually build cars for drivers. Their heritage is built on racing, tuning and development, which is something that can be seen in every car they sell. Recently, at the Frankfurt Motor Show, Hartmut Kristen, the director of Porsche Motorsport, gave an interview on just how closely related Porsche road cars are with their racetrack brethren. According to Kristen, the technology developed in GT Racing is imperative to the development of Porsche’s road cars. From aerodynamics to hybrid technology, racing will always be at the core of Porsche’s development. Click through for the video and enjoy.

A Visit To APR Tuning

When it comes to cities with ties to world-class tuners, what comes to mind? If Mercedes is your thing, you’d probably say Affalterbach, Germany, home to AMG. Perhaps you’d say Asaka, Saitama, Japan, home to Mugen, if fast Honda’s are your passion. Closer to home, Livonia, Michigan, home of Roush Performance, may come to mind if you’ve got a penchant for fast Mustangs.

If you’re a Volkswagen or Audi fan, your performance mecca is Opelika, Alabama, home to APR, LLC and one town over from Auburn University. Founder (and Auburn grad) Steven Hooks simply wanted to create a shop where VW and Audi owners could go for repair and tuning services, without fear of getting ripped off. What started as a hobby has grown into a worldwide business that includes both street and track performance for Volkswagen, Skoda, Seat, Audi and Porsche vehicles. Read More…

No Substitute – RAUH-Welt BEGRIFF: Shinji’s RWB 964

Porsche 964 Shinji

Take one of the meanest Porsche 964s in existence and combine it with the theme from the 1972 black exploitation film “Superfly” and you’ve got what is perhaps one of the coolest automotive shorts out there. Meet Shinji, the man who owns this stellar red 911. It’s no secret that he speaks broken English and that his technical descriptions are a bit off, but quite honestly who cares, as there is no denying that his love for this little red Porsche is second-to-none. In fact at the end of the video he makes one thing perfectly clear when he says, “I will drive a Porsche until I die…” Now that’s one statement that crosses all language barriers.

Coming Soon: A New Four-Cylinder Porsche

Posted in auto industry, Car Tech, News, Porsche by Kurt Ernst | September 7th, 2011 | 5 Responses |

Porsche's 968 was the last model to feature a four-cylinder engine. Image: Andreas Behn

In the world of Porsche, a four-cylinder engine is nothing new. In fact, their heritage building four-bangers dates back to 1938 and the Porsche 64. This was followed by the 1.6-liter flat four used in the 356 and 912, the 1.5-liter used in the 550, and all the variants of four cylinder engine used in the 914. Then came water-cooled four cylinders, starting with the 2.5 liter inline-four used in the 924 and 944, and ending with the 3.0-liter used in the Porsche 944 and 968. While Zuffenhausen has plenty of experience with four-cylinder engines, they haven’t put one in a production car since the 968 went out of production in 1995. Read More…

Porsche’s 2012 911 Carrera and 911 Carrera S make their official world debut at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show, but you can see the 911 Carrera S on the road in the video below. At first glance, the 2012 Porsche 911 looks a lot like the 2011 version, until you view them side by side. The new car is longer, wider, and just a bit shorter, which gives it a lower center of gravity and allows for slightly better weight distribution. It’s shed some 100 pounds since last year, and both versions get more powerful engines for 2012. Read More…
