It’s stuff like this that really burns me. Virginia is known to be one of, if not the toughest state in the country when it comes to speeding. Now it seems that because the state has a budget deficit of $2.2 billion they’re trying to use motorists to bail them out. My favorite part of this mess is that our tax dollars helped fund this by paying the overtime to the Troopers with a federal grant.
The state issued a total of 7,016 tickets to motorists over the two-day blitz. With the majority of them being speeding tickets. If you got nailed doing 10 to 15 mph over the speed limit, your fine was classified as “Reckless Driving” and came with a “GO F*CK YOURSELF” fine of $2500… ARE YOU KIDDING ME? The entire state should be embarrassed by this…

With the iconic Ford Police Interceptor now doing a bid for life w/o parole, several automakers have begun to clamor for its coveted corner of the law enforcement industry. Enter: the 2011 Chevy Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle (PPV), only slightly more intimidating than the GEM NEV.
To be fair, it’s hard to compete with the extremely intimidating aesthetic of the Dodge Charger Police Package, but the Caprice doesn’t even seem to be trying. If you remove the ram bars, the light bar, and the meth dealer in the back seat, it would be right at home in the parking lot at the local bingo hall/church potluck. What’s more, not only is the Caprice sorely lacking in the looks department but the heat it’s packing under the hood doesn’t do much by way of impressing us either. Optionally offered with a V6 or 6.0L V8, even the most powerful of the two only puts out 355 horses which is roughly 100 more than the outgoing Ford, but still a full 43 less than the Charger.

You all might remember the rumors that circulated about the Pontiac G8 coming back stateside for police duty. Sadly for police recruiters nationwide, it’s not to be, and GM’s entrant into the field remains the painfully boring 2010 Chevy Impala 9C1 and 9C3 packages. No matter how much acclaim the Impala gets for being a halfway decent American midsize car, in cop trim it’s wrong-wheel drive and two cylinders short of a full interceptor deck. This is partially because you can’t equip the Impala SS’s excellent LS4 V8, which pumps out 303 HP. Instead, they’re stuck with the the current 3900-series V6, the LZG, which only makes 233 HP. Hey, at least it’s flex-fuel, right?

You order a bedroom set for your son, but when it arrives, the mattress you thought would be included in the deal is missing. What do you do? If you’re Robert Caton of Hampshire, UK, you guzzle two bottles of cheap whiskey, hop in your ‘83 Rolls-Royce, and plow through the store in a drunken, poorly conceived rampage. Oh, and not on the first try either – he made two unsuccessful attempts to raze the store before finally succeeding in careening the Roller through the window, causing roughly $100,000 worth of damage.

All across South Jersey, police are targeting motorists who fail to yield to pedestrians in the crosswalk. To date, over 700 tickets have been issued to drivers in Cherry Hill, Collingswood, Pennsauken, and Burlington City, and vehicles have begun slowing down to as little as 50 mph before blowing by the foot traffic. Eventually police aim to have them coming to a complete stop, but that plan seems optimistic at best.

Is it karma? A former Canadian government prosecutor, Micheal Bryant, was charged on Tuesday for killing a bike messenger during a road rage incident. While that is horrible and tragic, Bryant was also known for aggressively pushing for stronger traffic safety laws, including quite controversially in 2007 giving local Ontario cops the ability to seize and crush any vehicle modified for racing even if no charges were filed against the owner. That’s right, that AEM cold-air intake would have been enough for Bryant’s goons to crush your car. That made it way more insane than California’s controversial law about crushing street racers. Make the jump for more details on the highly ironic road rage incident that lead to Bryant’s arrest.

At this point, the only Crown Victorias still being made are police cars, which isn’t the most ignoble end to a line of vehicles that stretches back to the dawn of man. Remember 2001: A Space Odyssey? How the monkey throws the bone into the air? Well, you don’t see it in the movie because of a quick cut, but it lands on an early Panther-platform LTD Crown Vic. So it’s finally shuffling off this mortal coil?, you say. Yup, looks like the expiration date is sometime between now and 2011. So what’s a cop gonna do?

Carbon Motors has been around for a few years, first with renderings of its kick-ass E7 police cruiser, and then with a honest prototype. That being said, there’s still a bit of a “vaporware” buzz to the company … or at least a “we’ll believe it when we see it” attitude. Well, Carbon has purchased an Indiana auto plant and says it will invest $350 million in it to retool it to build the E7. Indiana expects about a $3 billion economic impact over 10 years. So there you have it – you don’t invest more than a quarter million dollars in anything unless you mean business.

While US LEOs are stuck with their Paleolithic Crown Vics (at least until Carbon Motors gets their act together and starts selling some E7s), the boys and girls of UK police forces are getting all sorts of cool toys as cruisers. First, there was the diesel Jaguar XF Pursuit Special … and now we find the Hull bobbies taking delivery of Lexus IS-Fs (dubbed “IS-Force”) that have been fully decked out as cruisers. Read on for the full monty on this bollocks-swinging lairy fuzz jam jar.

During this year’s pair of Biker rallies, held annually in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, officials were capable of fining anyone caught (only) wearing a thong in public $225 dollars.
Personally, I am incensed by this gratuitous legislative violation of every American’s right to “Life, Liberty, and the Asymptotic Pursuit of Nudity Without Ever Actually Achieving It and Thereby Being Arrested.”
However, I could probably understand such a law, having myself made plenty of comments in regard to the skinny-challenged among us who insist on stuffing themselves into crazy things like bikinis and sometimes even jeans.
Most disturbing, though, is that Myrtle Beach officials are a bunch of racist bastards legally mandating racist behavior, and we’re letting them get away with it!
