White Lettered Tires: In or Out?

Plymouth Road Runner

I remember back in high school that if you had a car and wanted to make it look faster you’d simply slap on some white lettered tires and wallah – instant horsepower! White lettered tires back then were the equivalent of what big wings on imports are today. Sure they look good (well sometimes), but at the end of the day they end up doing less then nothing in terms of performance. I have to admit though that they do look good on certain vehicles. Muscle cars for example, with stock rally or steel wheels look great with the white lettered writing facing outward. Take this beauty of a Plymouth Road Runner for example… we’ve got stock 15-inch rally wheels and a great looking set of BF Goodrich Radial T/A’s. The entire combination just screams VINTAGE while enhancing the entire look of the car.

Art of the Muscle Car

It’s my humble opinion that every red blooded American male should at one point in their lives get behind the wheel of a big-block muscle car. They’re inefficient, politically incorrect and have styling the likes of which will never be duplicated. They were also created in a time when auto manufacturers still had the freedom to let their engineers run wild and make cars that were crafted from childhood fantasies. Nowadays government regulations, environmentalists and manufacturers are regulating the amount of fun we can have, and by doing so are killing the spirit of what the muscle car was all about.

Is Chrysler Planning To Bring Back The ‘Cuda?

Posted in Cars, Chrysler, Dodge, General, muscle cars, Plymouth by Kurt Ernst | December 22nd, 2010 | 2 Responses |

The Plymouth nameplate is long dead and buried, but that hasn’t stopped Chrysler from registering the name ‘Cuda as a trademark according to Autoblog. There are many different reasons why Chrysler would do this, including launching a line of ‘Cuda sportswear, ‘Cuda die cast toys, ‘Cuda appearance packages for the Dodge Challenger, etc. On the other hand, it’s no secret that Chrysler recognizes the power behind the ‘Cuda name, so speculation that a ‘Cuda variant of the current Dodge Challenger is under development may not be that far-fetched.

Mercury Cougar

Over the years automakers the world over have used animal names to describe their newest cars. These names are supposed to immortalize the true essence of these cars and portray to their owners the automobiles inner spirit. More often than not however these names are ill-seated at best and unfortunately at the end of the day, don’t do the poor animal any justice at all. Below is a listing of 20 cars that have taken their names from members of the wild kingdom. Some are appropriate, others, well… not so much. Either way though you can’t blame the manufacturers from trying to put a little personality into their rides.

Dodge to bring back Barracuda? Hey you never know!

Posted in Chrysler, Concept Cars, Cool Stuff, Dodge, muscle cars, Plymouth by MrAngry | November 7th, 2010 | 1 Response |

Dodge Cuda

Yep, it’s true. Chrysler’s head design chief and head honcho of the Dodge brand, Ralph Gilles, is seriously thinking about bringing back the Barracuda name plate. Back in the 1970′s you had the Plymouth Barracuda and the Dodge Challenger. Both shared the same platform, but the Cuda’ was always thought to have been the car with the harder edge. Models like the small block powered AAR Cuda’ and the legendary HEMI Cuda’ are cars that are worth big money today, I’m just wondering though that if bringing back the Cuda’ into today’s day and age would be the best thing. First off, the Cuda’ was a Plymouth, a brand that is now dead and buried and second, I feel that the Cuda’ would really need to be a different car all together than the current Challenger.

Last Run of the “HEMI Under Glass”.

If you’re into drag racing, then you’re no doubt familiar with with the car in the above video. What is today one of the most recognizable drag cars in existence, the HEMI Under Glass was created solely by accident back in 1965. By placing a blown HEMI engine in the back of a 1965 Plymouth Barracuda it was thought traction would be increased and drag times would drop. Traction was indeed improved, so much so in fact that the car couldn’t keep the front wheels on the ground. Back then fans and racers would gather at the drag strip to not only watch the races, but the “exhibition” cars as well. These cars were machines that were built not as head to head racers, but as show pieces to thrill and excite audiences between competition runs. Bob Riddle was the driver of the HEMI Under Glass for 39 years and talks about what it was like to drive one of the baddest, most ridiculous and most popular drag cars ever created.

Ridelust eBay Find: 1963 Plymouth Savoy Pursuit Car

1963 Plymouth Savoy

Sure there have been customized police cars before, but I think that this one may just take the cake. What you are seeing here is one man’s vision of what a police interceptor should be. This 1963 Plymouth Savoy has basically been transformed into every State Troopers wet dream. It packs a blown 440 cu inch big block, push button 727 transmission and disc brakes. Honestly, I have no idea what this sucker makes as far as power goes but I’m thinking it’s somewhere north of 600 hp. Granted in the turns this bad boy will probably be left for dead by an electric powered golf cart, but on the straights you’ve simply got no shot. This may not be the most conventional, economical or comfortable way to catch those doing more than the ole’ double nickel, but honestly who cares. Click here to check out other pics of this power packed police car.

Ferrari F40

The automotive rear wing is a major bone of contention amongst many car enthusiasts. Back in the day seeing a rear wing on an automobile usually meant power, speed and performance. Manufacturers included them into the cars design out of necessity and purpose. You see once upon an automotive time the rear wing meant something. It showed that an automobile was special and that from a performance standpoint, you simply shouldn’t fuck with it. Today however times have changed and we as enthusiasts have fallen into the dark ages of the wing. In recent years it has become the icon of the import crowd, where the bigger the wing usually meant the smaller the winky. What I’d like to do here today is bring back to you, the readers some of the greatest rear wings in automotive history. Wings, that were put on their cars not as an afterthought, but as an integral part of the original design. These wings have stood the test of time and will always be looked upon as having a true place in automotive history.

What Oddball Rides Do You Lust After?

Nash Metropolitan

I know it’s an odd question, but it’s also a valid one. Simply put, what oddball car do you lust after? Everyone has some type of skeleton in the closet and car guys and gals are no different. These are automobiles that you are embarrassed to tell your buddies you’d like to own. Some cars like Ferrari’s, Lamborghini’s and Bugatti’s are universally lusted after, but what about something like a 1960 Nash Metropolitan or a 1957 BMW Isetta 250, do these also tickle the pickle? Personally, I love the oddball stuff and while they may not be for everyone, some of these unconventional automobiles will always garner their fair share of followers. Here’s a quick list of 5 oddball rides that I wouldn’t mind seeing in my garage.
