This concept is brilliant, and I wonder why no other auto show thought of this first. Hire a stunning, leggy blond, put her in skin tight dresses that show off her, um, assets, and have her give you a highlight reel of the New York Auto Show. As you may have guessed, it’s chock full of sexual innuendo, but you have to expect that from videos like this. Sadly, RideLust doesn’t have the budget to hire someone with Serene’s talents, and neither Mike nor I can pull off a sheath dress and five inch heels. That said, I think this series has more life than just the New York Auto Show; speaking for me, I’d watch Serene take us on a tour of a sewage treatment plant, a Shriner’s convention or even a trade show for morticians. The base model, called the Mitsubishi i ES, starts at $27,990 before you factor in the federal tax credit. Even the base model gives you speed-sensitive steering, LED tail lights, a heated driver’s seat, air conditioning with a micron particle filter, remote keyless entry and a 4 speaker, 100w audio system. When Hyundai released their redesigned 2011 Sonata, it set the benchmark for content and value in the mid-side sedan class. Later, when they launched their all-new Elantra, the car did exactly the same thing for the compact car class. Now Hyundai’s redesigned their popular Accent subcompact for 2012, and it’s about to set the standard for what a subcompact sedan or five door hatchback can be like. Consider the numbers: the new Accent has best-in-class fuel economy at 30 mpg city and 40 mpg highway, but it still gives you more horsepower (and more horsepower per liter) than any direct competitors. If interior room is your thing, the Accent gives you 21.2 cubic feet, which is more than any other subcompact competitor. Yesterday I attended a press day at the New York International Auto Show and while there were some beautiful cars there, I wasn’t blown away by anything in particular. Some of the old favorites like BMW and Mercedes-Benz where there pimping out cars like the new 1 Series M Coupe and SLS Gullwing, while others, like Honda, were there simply because it was the right place to be. GM had a display that was amazing, and with cars like the new 2012 Malibu and Camaro ZL1 on hand, you could tell that they were serious about getting consumers back into their rides. I walked around for the better part of 3 hours, snapping a few shots here and there and figured I post up some of the standouts. Just click through to view the photos and enjoy.

The latest version of Ford’s Taurus SHO, released as a 2010 model, was probably best described as a “comfortable, sporty sedan.” Outside, it didn’t look all that different from other Taurus models, but that was partially by design. The Taurus SHO has always been a sleeper, and Ford’s engineers didn’t want to change that. Handling on the 2010 Taurus SHO was improved, thanks to an AWD drivetrain that helps gets the car’s 365 horsepower to the pavement. It was a relative hit among the Taurus SHO faithful, but it wasn’t seriously cross-shopped against many European sport sedan rivals. Read More…

Apparently Lexus has decided to take the wraps off of its new LF-Gh Hybrid Concept a few weeks before its official debut at the 2011 New York International Auto Show. The big sedan, which I have to say is quite fetching, seeks to bring together the perfect combination of performance, style, and efficiency. From a styling perspective the designers at Lexus have really done their homework as the car has managed to blend powerful and aggressive design into a package that still exudes elegance. Looking closely you can see queues from the Lexus LF-A super car in both the front fascia and sculpted rear tail lights which helps signify the direction in which Lexus is heading in from a performance standpoint.

Sometimes an automobile comes out that simply makes one sit back and ask the question… why? Take the new 2012 Shelby GT500 Super Snake that’s built by Shelby American Inc. for example. This new Mustang is to be unveiled at the New York International Auto Show later this month and will supposedly pack a whopping 800 hp. I mean for God’s sake, that’s just 201 hp shy of a Bugatti Veyron! Now don’t get me wrong because I love horsepower, but in a car like the Mustang the only thing all those ponies are good for is bragging rights. First off the car has a live rear axle, which means that regardless of what you do to it the thing will still skip like a stone across a pond if you encounter bumps mid-corner. Also keep in mind that putting 800 hp to the ground evenly is no easy task. Hell, even drag slicks won’t rectify that issue and if they do, you’ll most likely blow apart the rear end. According to Yahoo Autos, the cost of the new 2012 Shelby GT500 Super Snake will be under $100k, which I suppose is a decent price for all that power. However in my opinion, if the thing doesn’t go around a corner, then what good is it.

Porsche is making it harder and harder for me not to like this car. In fact when it was first released in 2009 I was a bit horrified that Porsche actually built a car that looked like a flattened turtle. The lines, stance and overall feel of the car simply did nothing for me. However, with each new improvement I’m finding that the Panamera is starting to grow on me in the same way that vines grow on the sides of buildings. Now is seems as though Porsche has once again tighten their vine strangling grip on me by unveiling the new Panamera Turbo S, a car that may just be the fastest tortoise in history. The car will be shown to the public at the New York International Auto Show on April 20, 2011 and promises to include a host of new features.
