Ever wonder what’s going to happen to all of these classic cars once the baby-boomer generation passes on? I do, and quite frankly it’s somewhat of a frightening thought. You see most of the motor-heads in today’s automotive circles do their wrenching with laptop computers as opposed to a toolbox. It used to be that back in the day guys would sit around their local drive-in’s on Friday and Saturday nights and bullshit about which cam they should use, or which carburetor would be the perfect fit for their engine combination. Today though times have changed, and I’m not so sure that the younger generation has any interest in our old-school classic cars. This video on Eddie’s Drive-in got me thinking about where these cars will be in 20 to 30 years, and if they’ll still have some type of following. What do you think – will they still be around or will these old relics just rot away?

To some of us the sound of a well tuned engine emitting from the tailpipes is simply music. The low rumbles of a big block V8 have the ability to make anyone feel like a bad-ass, whereas the high revving sounds of an Italian exotic have the ability to transport you into the seat of a Formula One car. Now while some engines are better than others, I would have never thought to utilize the raspy revs of a mid-1990′s V6 powered Dodge cargo van. Yes it’s distinct and yes it fits in with this music video, but in hindsight I think the sounds of that Italian exotic we spoke about earlier would have been a better fit. That’s just my .02¢ though…

I’ve never heard of the Russian girl band SEREBRO, and I don’t speak a word of Russian (which, to my untrained ears, sounds a lot like forcing a weasel into a garbage disposal). I’m not a big fan of pop music, either, but I will suddenly admit to being a huge fan of SEREBRO. It’s got nothing to do with the band’s music, and I think you’ll enjoy the video a lot more if you turn the sound down. If you’re a heterosexual male, however, I assure you of this: you WILL like this video.

See if you can spot all the distractions to the driver in the 5:33 second video below. I’ve watched it a few dozen times now, only because I keep losing count; besides, is slapping your front seat passenger’s ass considered a distraction if you don’t take your eyes off the road?

There ain’t nothin’ better then getting up at 6am on a Sunday morning to hit the open road with a cup-O-joe in hand. It’s one of my favorite things to do and I relish in those drives. I’ll climb into my ’68 Charger still a bit foggy-headed, crank up that big ole’ 440, turn on the radio and roll. That my friends is the perfect start to the day. Music is a very important piece of this equation as hearing the right tunes blast from the radio can either make or break your cruise. If you drive a muscle car you must have a little Lynyrd Skynyrd, a little Allman Brothers Band and of course, a touch of Molly Hatchet. These guys will get you in the mood. Recently though I heard a song from a band called The Sheepdogs called “I Don’t Know”, and well… it made me want to drive again so I figured I’d share it with you. Click through for their video and enjoy

When the movie Wayne’s World came out in 1992 we were treated to two of the greatest rock groupies in history, Wayne Campbell and Garth Algar. These full grown adolescents hosted a cable access show in Aurora, IL and single-handedly revived one of the greatest rock ballads in history, Queen’s legendary Bohemian Rhapsody. Now, almost 20 years later an award winning Finnish street band called the Porkka Playboys is taking their own shot at Bohemian Rhapsody, but this time they’re doing it from the inside of an old rusted out Volkswagen Polo. Oh and by the way, their version kicks ass. Click through and take a look.

Ducati, Laverda, Honda, MV Agusta, Yamaha and Bultaco are just some of the names that come to mind when I think about vintage motorcycles. Classic bikes are a labor of love. They’re finicky, sometimes unreliable, but in the end, they provide their owners with a kinship that is seldom matched in the realm of motor sport. Owners of these classic machines tend to know them inside and out. They’re attune to every noise, rattle and smell that these wonderful machines emit and strive day in and day out to keep these rolling pieces of history on the road. This video was shot by Squadra Sutge, a group of classic racing enthusiasts at the Classic Moto 2011 event on the Jarama circuit in Madrid, Spain. The footage, music and gray feel of the video brings forth the true essence of these classic machines in a way that will make you want to start scouring your favorite sales publication for a two-wheeled classic.
Magna International calls themselves “the most diversified automotive supplier in the world”, providing manufacturers with everything from electronics to body and chassis components. Need to design or manufacture your own vehicle from the ground up? Magna can help with that, too, so when they claim to have developed “a whole new way to generate sound in a car”, I’m inclined to believe them.

Called “AcoustiVision”, the system uses specially mounted rear glass with embedded exciters to replace a conventional subwoofer. A trunk-mounted amp feeds 200 volts to the exciters, which in turn generate low frequency sound. The benefit is reduced weight, reduced power consumption and more storage space since bulky subwoofer enclosures are eliminated. The downside? A special sealant is required to ensure that the glass can vibrate freely without coming loose, so the system will likely be marketed to new car manufacturers only. Magna has been working on the technology for about four years now, so I’m pretty sure they’ve got the technical details figured out.

Magna’s product director, Greg Rizzo, claims that the system “is like sitting inside a subwoofer box”, and that you can’t hear it outside the car. I’m not sure I believe that, since the rest of the car’s sheetmetal will be resonating, but I’m all for anything that reduces noise pollution. Few things are more annoying that sitting at a light while the car next to you rattles itself to pieces thanks to a homebuilt audio system, playing at threshold of pain volumes.

I’d like to tell you that the AcoustiVision system sounds as good as a conventional subwoofer setup, but I haven’t heard it yet. Magna needs to ramp up component production before they can pitch the AcoustiVision system to manufacturers, so don’t expect to see any new cars with the technology before 2015.

I’m always stoked when I see a new music video come out with a hot car, truck or bike in it. I mean hell, all of us who are car enthusiasts have great memories of, at one point or another, cruising down the highway with the stereo blasting with our favorite tunes. While some of us may dig tunes like Sir Mix-A-Lot’s: Carz or Audioslave’s: Show Me How To Live, I generally find myself cruising out to the likes of the Rolling Stones. Whatever your poison though, it doesn’t change the fact that cars and music go together like peanut butter and jelly, only without the mess. The following is a short list of video’s (that I don’t think I’ve posted before) that utilize some sort of bad-ass vehicle as one of their main characters. Click through for the vids and enjoy.

What we have here is soccer star David Beckham’s 2008 Porsche 911 Turbo and it’s up for sale on eBay. Aside from soccer though Beckham is also known for being married to one of the old Spice Girls, not sure which one though, nor do I care. This particular 911 Turbo has been given the full murdered out treatment, and while I dig that, I can’t really get with the fact that his number (23) is plastered everywhere. It’s on the seats, the center caps of the wheels, and the floor mats. Who knows, maybe Beckham just has a bad memory and constantly needs to be reminded of who he is. Aside from the numbers everywhere I have to say this car truly is in pristine condition, and with just over 6500 mile on the clock it’s also just barely broken in. Other custom modifications aside from the paint and upholstery work, are a nice set of rims, Techart exhaust system and bass speakers hidden under the rear jump seats – all in all a great car. I’m just wondering how much moola’ it would cost to get all those 23′s out of that thing.
