Dom's Charger

It’s no secret that automakers have been pimping out their cars in films for quite some time. GM for example has been running rampid in Michael Bay’s Transformers movies since they came out in 2007. Then there are companies like Aston Martin and Audi who have had long standing relationships with James Bond and The Transporter. Well, now it’s Dodge’s turn as they are taking place front and center in the new Fast and the Furious: Fast 5 movie starring Vin Diesel and Paul Walker. In the past the only real Dodge in the franchise has been the 1970 Dodge Charger that belonged to Dominic Torretto, the films main character. But in this new movie, Fast 5, Dodge has stepped up their sponsorship big time by including a host of 2010 and 2011 Charger SRT8′s for the films production. The below videos give you just a little insight into the cars used, what their roles are and why director Justin Lin thought they’d be great for the movie. Click through for the videos.

The Evolution of “The Fast and the Furious”

The Fast and the Furious

Ten years ago the automotive world was sucker punched by a politically incorrect car movie that set the ground work for one of the biggest movie franchises in history. It was called The Fast and the Furious and even though critics panned it, the timing of the film couldn’t have been better. You see back in 2001 the import craze in the United States was in full swing. Honda’s, Toyota’s, Mitsubishi’s and Mazda’s now took the place of what old school muscle cars were to kids back in the late 1960′s and 1970′s. The cars were cheap, easy to modify and even though they had small displacement engines, these little imports could be turned into giant killers with the right wrench under the hood. Thus far we’ve been treated to four movies in the Fast and the Furious franchise with the newest film, Fast 5 set for release on April 29th.

Amazing Mad Max Fan Art!

Mad Max
*Artist: theuni

Not long ago I asked you guys what your favorite movie car was and got answers that ranged from the Delorean in Back to the Future, to Clark Griswald’s Family Truckster in Vacation. My personal choice was the 1974 Ford Falcon XB that was crafted into the Last Interceptor from Mad Max and for some reason it’s been stuck in my head for the last few days. I started doing a bit of research, as I was curious how other people, artists especially, view the cars of Mad Max. What I found was an assortment of some pretty cool fan art for you guys to enjoy. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, the reason we all love cars is because they get us to think, dream and in the end, express ourselves in a form that cannot be matched.

Redneck Awesome: Joe Dirt Daytona

Posted in Best of, Celebrity Cars, Dodge, Domestic Rides, General, Movies, Rides, Top of the Heap by MrAngry | March 17th, 2011 | 2 Responses |

Joe Dirt Daytona

He’s an icon of American cinema, a pillar of society and the greatest mullet wearing redneck the world has ever known; he’s Joe Dirt and his ride is a 1969 Dodge Daytona. Joe Dirt was released way back in 2001 and starred David Spade as a man on a mission. His goal was to find his long lost parents who ditched him at the Grand Canyon when he was just six years old. It’s a tragic story I know and one that’s filled with heartbreak, joy, and best of all, some wicked old Mopar’s. Joe’s first ride comes by way of a 1967 Plymouth Satellite with a 426 HEMI, however he get’s it impounded and has to settle for a clapped out 1969 Dodge Daytona. As a Daytona owner, I have to say that watching this clip definitely brings out my inner redneck. Hell, all I need now is a can of Coors Light, some Creedence Clearwater Revival and a few bucks for gas. If you haven’t seen Joe Dirt and your a car guy, then I must recommend that you go out and get it immediately, your inner mullet will thank you for it, trust me…

What’s Your Favorite Movie Car?

Posted in Best of, General, Lists, Movies, News, Pop Culture, Rants & Raves, Top of the Heap by MrAngry | March 14th, 2011 | 14 Responses |

Mad Max

There are movies, and then there are car movies. If you’re an automotive enthusiast then you know exactly what I’m talking about. If you’re not, well then, just go back to watching “Black Swan” or whatever it is you guys watch. A car movie to an enthusiast is like crack to a junkie, as they satisfy our fix and captivate our gear head imaginations. Films like Bullitt, The French Connection and Dirty Mary Crazy Larry have put us in the passenger seat of some of the best car chases ever created. Then there’s Christine, The Car and Maximum Overdrive, movies that have frightened us by using our beloved machines against us. Finally there are those movies whose cars only play a supporting roll, but in the end become more of a character then the actors themselves. Think Gone in 60 Seconds (Eleanor), The Cannonball Run (the Trans Con Medi-Vac) and The Fast and the Furious (Dom’s 1970 Charger). My question to you is this; if you had to pick a single car out of all the automotive movies that you’ve ever seen as your favorite, which one would it be? Think long and hard about this because it’s not an easy choice. Just make sure that you reply in the comments section, because I’m very curious to know what and why you chose the car you chose. Oh and by the way, mines pictured above.

New “Cars 2″ Trailer: New Places, New Faces!

Cars 2 Movie

I find it amazing that two completely different styles of car flicks still have the ability to get me all excited. Earlier today we brought you the trailer for the new “Fast Five” movie, and now (thanks to the wonders of modern technology) we’ve also got the new trailer for Disney Pixar’s, “Cars 2″. After watching you’ll notice that there’s a lot going on here. In the first movie the story line was pretty simple; car races, car gets lost and meets girl, car wins race – done. It was a simple plot with a happy go lucky story that made us all feel good when we left the theater. With this one though, sheesh… there’s a lot of action going on. We’ve got international espionage, spies, racing and loads of explosions, as well as some new automotive faces that are being voiced by some of the best actors in the business. In my opinion, Disney and Pixar have yet to make a bad film, as they’re as entertaining to children as they are to adults. “Cars 2″ comes out on June 24th, so make sure to mark your calendars today!

New “FAST FIVE” Movie Trailer Hits the Net!

Fast and the Furious Five

I can’t help it… I’m a total sucker for The Fast and the Furious franchise. It’s been going strong for 10 years now and I get totally stoked every time that I hear that a new one is on the horizon. To me, they’re the perfect combination of fast paced action, hot cars, stunts and nice too look at boobies. This is the newest trailer and I have to say that it’s the best one so far. This time cast members from each of the films are reunited in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil to pull a bank heist that’s worth 100 million smackers. A new addition to the cast is Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson as the federal agent in charge of bringing down Dom and his crew. My hope is that we see him and Diesel’s character Dominic Toretto go toe-to-toe. On the car front we’ve got everything from Dom’s beloved 1970 Dodge Charger, to a new Lexus LFA, to a sprinkling of big money exotics. The new film comes out on April 29 which means that car guys everywhere will soon have a reason to part with twelve of their hard earned dollars. Click through for the trailer.

“Car 2″ Presents: Bruce Campbell as Rod “Torque” Redline

Cars 2 Bruce Campbell

Either the universe has come together or the stars have all aligned because it’s just been announced that Rod “Torque” Redline, a new character in Disney Pixar’s upcoming CARS 2 is going to be voiced by super actor Bruce Campbell. Now, for those who don’t know who Campbell is (I’m not even sure if that’s possible) then you must immediately go out and purchase, not rent, Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2, Army of Darkness and Bubba Ho-Tep. Campbell is one of those rare character actors who is simply hilarious in everything he does. His one liners are legendary, his chin is Oscar worthy and his acting… well that’s pretty good too. It’s obvious that I must now pony up the $12 to go see CARS 2 in the theater just to get the full experience, which is something that I don’t normally do. But alas, if my boy Bruce is doing his thing, then I must support him. Oh and by the way, Rod “Torque” Redline is an American Super Spy that’s based on an American muscle car that looks a lot like the offspring of a Ford Mustang and Dodge Challenger.

Hail to the King baby…

Movies Not to Miss in 2011.

Posted in Best of, General, Movies, News, Rants & Raves by Jennifer Nicole | February 23rd, 2011 | Leave a Reply |

2011 is finally here and with that comes an entirely new crop of car movies. There’s something for everyone, from muscle cars to classics, exotics, and Autobots too. I’m talking about major car porn and I was excited to write this because I got a chance to research, stare and fantasize about getting behind the wheel of some of these featured machines. If only I could get a night shift or two at the Peterson Automobile Museum, I’d blow out of there like a bat out of hell in everything from the Batmobile to Steve McQueen’s Jaguar XKSS and anything else from the movie cars exhibit.

DRIVE ANGRY: Where CGI Reigns Supreme

Posted in Best of, FAIL / Funny, Movies, Rants & Raves, Videos by MrAngry | February 22nd, 2011 | 7 Responses |

Drive Angry

Can someone please tell Nicolas Cage to stop making movies for the sake of a paycheck. We all know he can act, hell, just watch some of his old flicks like Raising Arizona (in my top 5 by the way), Moonstruck or Adaptation. They’re all good movies and prove that the boy does in fact have talent. In DRIVE ANGRY Cage plays a father that escapes from hell – yes you read that right – and goes on the warpath in order to avenge the death of his slain daughter. When I first saw the preview I actually got excited by all the muscle cars prancing about. However, when I noticed the 1969 Dodge Charger was EXACTLY the same one used in Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof, I immediately lost all respect for this flick. I mean shit, at least repaint the thing and add some different wheels or something. Combine that with cut rate CGI, and you’ve got a flick that looks as though it isn’t going to amount to much. I’ll reserve my final thoughts though until the final reviews come out.
