Disney's Planes

Disney Pixar’s “Cars 2″ is set to hit theaters in only a few weeks on June 24th. The animated film reunites all of our favorite characters including Lightening McQueen, Mater and Mack as they travel around the globe for new adventures. The “Cars” franchise has turned out to be one of the most lucrative projects for Disney and because of this they’ve decided to spread their wings a bit. You see now they’ve created… wait for it… PLANES! Yep, that’s right Disney has gone out (without Pixar mind you) and aimed for the sky with their new (for DVD only) animated movie Planes.

“The team at DisneyToon Studios has done such an amazing job creating a heartfelt story filled with great comedy, adventure, and emotion,” Disney creative exec John Lasseter said in a release back when the project was confirmed in February. “I know audiences are going to love taking off into the wild blue yonder with these daredevil characters, as they experience a whole new kind of animated adventure.”

I am curious however as to what Rob Zombie thinks about his song “More Human Than Human” being used in a Disney flick. Times have changed I tell ya’, times have changed.

Automotive Hero's

Last week I poised the question: Who is your favorite fictional automotive hero? Surprisingly we got inundated with emails and the suggestions were so damn good that I decided to put a little list together. Some of the suggestions were pretty off beat, but what I realized was that there was a whole host of characters for whom I had totally overlooked. These characters got our adrenaline flowing, made us laugh, cringe and cheer. They also range in status from a fictional Nascar legend to a drugged out journalist who was hell bent on killing convertibles. However you look at it though, this list is a compilation of the best and baddest fictional automotive nuts that ever set foot on the silver screen.

A Kind Of Passion: Vintage Motorcycles

A Kind of Passion

Ducati, Laverda, Honda, MV Agusta, Yamaha and Bultaco are just some of the names that come to mind when I think about vintage motorcycles. Classic bikes are a labor of love. They’re finicky, sometimes unreliable, but in the end, they provide their owners with a kinship that is seldom matched in the realm of motor sport. Owners of these classic machines tend to know them inside and out. They’re attune to every noise, rattle and smell that these wonderful machines emit and strive day in and day out to keep these rolling pieces of history on the road. This video was shot by Squadra Sutge, a group of classic racing enthusiasts at the Classic Moto 2011 event on the Jarama circuit in Madrid, Spain. The footage, music and gray feel of the video brings forth the true essence of these classic machines in a way that will make you want to start scouring your favorite sales publication for a two-wheeled classic. Driven to Race Movie Trailer

Driven To Race Movie Trailer

Being a professional race car driver is not something that comes easy to most people. It takes years of experience and determination, the will to win, and most of all it takes money… lots and lots of money. Most drivers start out as young children who get into the sport by way of karting and then progress up through the ranks and into other series from there. Some parents start their kids as young as five or six years old in the hopes that they’ll show promise at an early age. Other individuals start racing as a hobby only to find out that they have a fair amount of talent, which leads to them seeking sponsorship and hopefully a ride in whatever series they seek to drive in. One things for sure though, a race car driver is nothing without the team that supports them. Driven to Race is a movie about what it takes to start, finish and at the end of the day, end up in the winner circle. Click through for the full trailer.

Mini Thor or Mini Darth… You Decide.

Mini Thor

During the 2010 Superbowl, the folks at Volkswagen aired a commercial for their new Jetta that would go down in history as one of the best ads ever created. It starred a pint-sized Darth Vader, a lazy golden retriever and a Father that helped make his sons day by way of the remote start on the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta. The commercial has garnered more than 36 million views on youtube and has the ability to put a smile on the face of just about anyone. It’s now 5 months later and we’re soon to be greeted with Paramount’s new movie, “Thor” about a God that was dropped from the heavens to seek refuge amongst mortal men and women. The producers decided to try and steal a little of Mini Darth’s thunder by making their own parody of VW’s Jetta commercial. It’s a good effort no doubt, but I still think that Mini Thor has a little bit of work to do.

Prius Car Chase Madness from “The Other Guys”

Posted in FAIL / Funny, Funny, Funny Videos, Hoonage, Hybrid, Movies, Pop Culture, Toyota by Leigh | April 25th, 2011 | 2 Responses |

“The Other Guys,” starring Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell, seems to be one of those flicks that everyone has heard about, but no one has actually seen – which is a shame because it’s downright hilarious.

Yes, it may be just one of those ridiculously goofy Will Ferrell movies, but if you love stupid humor, it’s a total laugh riot.  Plus, Adam McKay, who directed “Talledega Nights” (another timeless Ferrell flick), is behind the helm of it.

One of the reasons why this movie is so originally epic is that THE true action star is a Prius police car – which gets shot up, doused in cocaine, and serves as the host of a homeless orgy.  If you have a few minutes for a laugh, check out the compilation below of the best Prius clips from the movie:

Behind the Scenes: Fast Five Chargers

Dom's Charger

It’s no secret that automakers have been pimping out their cars in films for quite some time. GM for example has been running rampid in Michael Bay’s Transformers movies since they came out in 2007. Then there are companies like Aston Martin and Audi who have had long standing relationships with James Bond and The Transporter. Well, now it’s Dodge’s turn as they are taking place front and center in the new Fast and the Furious: Fast 5 movie starring Vin Diesel and Paul Walker. In the past the only real Dodge in the franchise has been the 1970 Dodge Charger that belonged to Dominic Torretto, the films main character. But in this new movie, Fast 5, Dodge has stepped up their sponsorship big time by including a host of 2010 and 2011 Charger SRT8′s for the films production. The below videos give you just a little insight into the cars used, what their roles are and why director Justin Lin thought they’d be great for the movie. Click through for the videos.

The Evolution of “The Fast and the Furious”

Posted in Best of, General, Movies, Racing, Rants & Raves, Videos by MrAngry | April 8th, 2011 | 6 Responses |

The Fast and the Furious

Ten years ago the automotive world was sucker punched by a politically incorrect car movie that set the ground work for one of the biggest movie franchises in history. It was called The Fast and the Furious and even though critics panned it, the timing of the film couldn’t have been better. You see back in 2001 the import craze in the United States was in full swing. Honda’s, Toyota’s, Mitsubishi’s and Mazda’s now took the place of what old school muscle cars were to kids back in the late 1960′s and 1970′s. The cars were cheap, easy to modify and even though they had small displacement engines, these little imports could be turned into giant killers with the right wrench under the hood. Thus far we’ve been treated to four movies in the Fast and the Furious franchise with the newest film, Fast 5 set for release on April 29th.
