Disney Pixar’s “Cars 2″ trailer makes us feel like kids again…

If you’re a car enthusiast then you’ve no doubt seen Disney Pixar’s movie Cars. Hitting the big screen back in 2006 Cars took us on the animated journey of Lightning McQueen and his buddy Mater, as well as the entire population of Radiator Springs. What was brilliant about Cars though was that it transported both children and adults back to a time when life was just a little simpler. It’s now 4 years later and Pixar has just released the trailer for Cars 2. This time it looks as though they’re taking a bit of a right turn, as our two hero’s are now what look to be secret agents and competing in the World Grand Prix for a chance to save the world. As with everything that comes out of Disney Pixar studios I have no doubt that Cars 2 will delight and capture the imaginations of all those who see it. Cars 2 is scheduled for release July 24, 2011.

2012 BMW 6-Series

Yes ladies and gentlemen, it’s true, Hollywood has decided to make yet another Mission Impossible movie starring Tom Cruise. The movie is entitled Mission Impossible: The Ghost Protocol, where Cruise will reprise his role a super agent Ethan Hunt. His mission will be to no doubt try and once again, save the world from some exotic disease, a stolen nuclear weapon or some other form of mass destruction. The good news for us though, aside from the big explosions and action, is that it’s rumored that Cruise will be rolling heavy in the new BMW 6-Series. You see apparently Mr. Cruise was invited to a special preview of the new 6-Series drop top, which I am sure made his day. As of right now we have no details about the plot other than that Jeremy Renner has joined the cast and plays a young agent that Cruise supervises. Hopefully he’ll steal the BMW and have a great car chase with it, with guns, helicopters and naked women. They do that and I have a feeling this sucker could become a blockbuster.

Jim Morrison and a 1967 Shelby G.T. 500 Mustang

Jim Morrison of The Doors was one of the greatest front men in all of music. He was idolized and worshiped as some sort of musical god. Me personally, I didn’t see it, but then again I think that David Lee Roth was the greatest musical front man ever, so what the hell do I know. Regardless of his musical stature though it seems that Morrison was also a bit of a car connoisseur, as can be seen here in a film shot in 1969 with some friends. The film, as with everything that Morrison did, makes no real sense so to speak of. In the film you’ll see him drinking and driving, doing donuts in the desert and basically acting as some sort of counter-culture schmuck. I guess that’s one of the reasons he’s no longer with us. The footage however is simply amazing from a quality standpoint, and hey, if you’re going to beat the snot out of a vintage Mustang in true rock star fashion, it may as well be a 1967 Shelby GT 500.

Dust to Glory: One of the Greatest Movies You’ve Never Seen.

If you’re a true petrolhead like we are than you could care less if you’re watching Formula 1, go-karts or some redneck racing a lawn tractor. Racing is racing and regardless of the machine or venue, it packs into it all the adrenaline that one could ask for. Dust to Glory is a documentary about the Baja 1000, the annual off-road race held down in Baja, Mexico. It’s a race that separates the men from the boys, as Baja is a take no prisoners challenge that takes competitors off the tarmac and into some of the harshest terrain on the planet. If this trailer doesn’t get your blood pumping then you’re either stoned or dead – hell, it’s even narrated by Dana Brown. Honestly, this is a movie that you seriously don’t want to miss…

Happy Halloween from… the two Steven’s.

Now here’s a match made in heaven. In one corner we have Steven Spielberg, the iconic director that made the epic road film Duel about an orange Plymouth Valiant driven by Dennis Weaver and the brown Peterbilt truck who chased him. The reason… no one knows. Then, on the opposite end of the ring we have Maximum Overdrive, the Stephen King movie about machines that were taken over by some seriously good space dust. Both flicks contain down and dirty trucks who want to kill everyone, and both, believe it or not, also did quite well at the box office. The best part however is the inclusion of Who Made Who by AC/DC, that alone makes this sucker worth watching.

Happy Halloween from… THE CAR!

He’s big, he’s black and he’s on the attack! THE CAR came out in 1977 and is perhaps one of the worst movies in all of cinema. What we have here is an early 70′s Lincoln Continental on steroids that has subsequently been possessed by Satan and is really pissed off. The plot is completely hokey and the acting is terrible, but THE CAR is one of the few vehicular movies that is Halloween appropriate. Personally, I think that Disney should put THE CAR in the next Cars movie… he could be Lightening McQueen’s body guard.

Rolling Mayhem: The Green Hornet’s Black Beauty.

A few months back we posted the trailer for the upcoming movie The Green Hornet, starring Seth Rogan. Aside from Rogan starring as the movies main character, the film also utilizes another major personality, that being the highly modified and completely bad-ass 1966 Chrysler Imperial known as Black Beauty. Equipped with everything from machine guns to missiles, this 2.5 ton hammer has the ability to put some serious vehicular hurt on the films bad guys. The clip above shows us a little behind the scenes footage that includes the build out and testing of this soon-to-be iconic movie car. Since these cars are quite rare I’m hoping that Hollywood didn’t go buck wild and destroy too many of these beauties for the film. On the upside though the movie may actually bring some much needed attention to these beautiful machines which will perhaps result in some of them being restored. Look for the Green Hornet in theaters this January.

Snake Road Concept: The Future of Motorcycling?

Snake Road Motorcycle Concept

I remember back in 1985 when Honda came out with their VF1000R; a venerable race bike for the street. It was powered by a 120 hp V4, had a two-piece steel trellis frame, 16-inch Comcast wheels, air-shock and quick release front hub. People, back then this was the King Schwing of motorcycles. After that bike was released manufacturers began producing full on race replicas for the street, a trend that continues to this day. Then a few years later in 1988 an animated movie called Akira came out. It was set in post-apocalyptic Tokyo, Japan where the streets were ruled by biker gangs. I bring this up because the main character, Akira road a motorcycle that, believe it or not, didn’t look to much different from the one you see here.

Fast and Furious 1970 Dodge Charger

How much would you pay for a chance to own a piece of cinema history? Well, if the guys down at the Volo Auto Museum in Illinois have anything to say about it you’re going to be paying quite a bit. Currently up for sale is the 1970 Dodge Charger that was driven in 2009′s “Fast & Furious” movie starring Vin Diesel and Paul Walker. The guys at the Volo museum seem to think this thing is worth big bucks – like $129,000 big. As a car guy though and the owner of a vintage Charger, I can tell you that this sucker is a total hack job and to run the other way if you’re actually considering purchasing it.
