Audi RS5 vs Mercedes-Benz C63

They’re both German, pack more than 400 hp and look like total hoots to drive. However the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe and Audi RS5 couldn’t be more different. The Mercedes C63 for instance is a total hoonigan that’s capable of rear wheel drive powerslides that rewards its pilot with tons of tire smoking action. It’s a muscle-head for the young executive who’s into MMA fights and white water rafting on the weekends. The Audi RS5 with its stellar all-wheel drive system is more subdued and is more of a silent assassin on the streets. It’s fast and handles great, but goes about its business with very little in the way of theatrics. So, which one of these super coupes is the baddest? Fifth Gear recently got them together for a little showdown to find out the answer to that exact question.

So What Does It Take To Film Driving Scenes?

Posted in Cool Stuff, Mercedes Benz, Videos by Kurt Ernst | November 10th, 2011 | 2 Responses |

If you’re Mercedes-Benz, you don’t sell product by showing images of parked cars and crossovers. Instead, you film your products in action, at high speeds and in high resolution. For those of us on this side of the screen, it all comes out as stunning and seamless video. For the crew involved with making the video, there’s a lot more involved than you may have considered. It’s Tough Being Nico Rosberg

Nico Rosberg: F1 star, creepy stalker dude, or both?

Being an F1 driver isn’t as easy as it looks. In addition to piloting the fastest cars on the planet for a living (while trying to not upstage your famous teammate too much), you have to be seen at all the right parties, wearing all the right clothes. Unlike rock stars, who have fixers (i.e., roadies) to arrange “dates” with groupies, F1 drivers, it appears, have to hunt down their own fans before going heels-to-Jesus. Read More…

Do you know your automotive logos? Think you know what the three pointed star used by Mercedes-Benz signifies? Even if you know part of the story, chances are good that you don’t know how or where the trademark originated, or how it’s grown to become one of the most recognized luxury icons in the world. The YouTube video below will fill in the details, but we understand if you don’t get inked with the three-pointed star logo. Read More…

The Birth Of A Concept Car: The Mercedes Concept A-Class

Posted in Car Buying, Mercedes Benz, Videos by Kurt Ernst | October 15th, 2011 | 1 Response |

The Mercedes Benz Concept A Class has been given a green light for production. Don’t expect the A Class that hits showrooms to be quite as wild as the A Class you see in the You Tube video below, since concepts are built without regards to cost or even function. Still, the A-Class may be the most significant Mercedes-Benz to hit these shores in a long, long, time. Why? Because it’s edgy, not conservative, and it’s aimed at a much broader audience that previous Mercedes models. That’s a politically correct way of saying that it will be cheaper, too. Read More…

When it comes to the all-important Gen Y car-buying demographic, Mercedes-Benz isn’t the first name that comes to mind. Instead, Gen Y buyers look at Mitsubiushi, Nissan and Honda, which means that Mercedes is losing potential buyers at a time when it’s branching out into even more affordable market segments. In the next year, Mercedes will launch a compact (B Class) and a subcompact (A Class), at prices not previously associated with Mercedes Benz in the United States. Read More…

Mercedes-Benz Shows Us The Car Of 2036

By 2036, I think that most transportation will involve horses and ox carts, but Mercedes-Benz has a more pleasant and upbeat view of the future. Debuting at this week’s Frankfurt Auto Show is Mercedes’ F 125 Concept, which shows the possible future of motorized transportation, as interpreted by Mercedes Benz. Read More…

If you’re Mercedes-Benz and you’re launching a new version of the legendary Geländewagen in Australia, you probably want to demonstrate how rugged and off-road capable your new truck is. What better way to do so than to pick a trail known to be among the most challenging in the world, like the Canning Stock Route that traverses the unforgiving Australian Outback? Some 1,150 miles long, the Canning Stock Route was used by early 20th century ranchers to get cattle to market. It really hasn’t been improved in the century since, and driving its length is a strain on both driver and machine. Read More…

Back In Black: New C63 AMG Black Series Coming

I’ve never been a Mercedes-Benz guy, simply because its cars have generally been geared more toward luxury than sport. They’re superbly engineered, and some have genuine sports car capabilities, but these come slathered in burl walnut and tied to an automatic transmission. In short, I can admire Mercedes-Benz automobiles, but I’ve never really lusted after them. Read More…

I’ll be honest with you: most of the “how to drive” videos I’ve ever seen are absolute crap, either slapped together by amateurs who don’t know what they’re talking about or filmed using pros who fail to explain exactly what they’re doing. Worse, some of these videos make track driving look deceptively easy. Which it is, until it very suddenly isn’t. Read More…
