Synergy. This is what happens when two things meet, compliment each other and then prosper from their joint relationship. AMG and Ducati are two powerhouse name brands in the world of performance. And even though one rides on four wheels and the other on two, that makes no difference because their message is exactly the same. Sex, speed and performance. It would’ve been so much easier if I was just into video games or something because there are times when being a car guy totally sucks. You see I don’t just like cars, I love them. In fact every aspect of my life revolves around them. I write about them, build them, race them, film them… hell, they encompass everything I do. Who knew that back in the day when I was playing with Matchbox and remote control cars that it would turn into an obsession that has taken over my life. The problem is this; I want everything, but the fatal combination of a writers salary and lack of space prevent this from happening. Sure being in the industry helps, as we get to drive press cars and go to different automotive related events, but still, that doesn’t change the fact that I jones for something different in the garage on a daily basis. Take this near perfect 1972 Ford Galaxie 500 that I spied recently on eBay. Folks, if I had the money this sucker would be in my garage tomorrow. Sure it’s big and cumbersome, but it’s a classic piece of American iron that I would love to use as a daily driver. Maybe it’s because it’s different, or maybe its because cars like this remind me of my childhood growing up in the 1970′s. Whatever the reason though, road yachts like this always get my blood pumping.

Understand that it’s not just vintage American stuff that excites me either. Take this old 1973 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series 280 SEL for example. It was build in a time when a Mercedes-Benz was still built like a tank. Cars of this vintage not only drove great, but they have a timeless style that even now, 38 years later, still looks great. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll hit lotto, or perhaps be in a position to get that 40 car garage I’ve always dreamed about. Either way though, there are times when being a car guy is a drag, as there are just so many wonderful rides out there and so little time to experience them.

When Lamborghini announced that their new supercar, the Aventador was going to put some serious hurt on the competition, they weren’t kidding. I mean getting a car to a top speed of 217 mph is one thing, but having it accelerate to 60 mph in under 3-seconds? Well, that’s just crazy talk. This however is Lamborghini, the makers of the ridiculous, therefore it comes as no surprise that their performance claims on the new Aventador seem to be true. I remember when back in the day a top speed of 150 mph was fast, and getting to 60 mph in 7 seconds was pretty good. Nowadays though and uncorked Honda Accord can achieve those speeds. But I digress… Autocar Magazine over in the UK was a bit skeptical of the claims that Lamborghini was making, so they decided to have a little test. Granted, it wasn’t official, but when you’ve got access to a Porsche GT2 RS, Lamborghini Aventador and a Mercedes-Benz SLS, who really cares?

“Made in China”. That’s a sentence that is unfortunately seen on most of the goods we have over here in the United States. As Americans, we see that, sigh, and then drop our heads wishing that we produced all of our own goods and services. Apparently though that phrase is paying off big time for the Chinese as they’ve got a car club over there that rivals just about anything I’ve ever seen stateside. Pagani, Ferrari, Bugatti, Koenissegg, Lamborghini, Aston Martin, Porsche and Mercedes-Benz are all present and accounted for and hot damn if these guys don’t drive the piss out of them as well. Stored in a warehouse somewhere in China, the value of these automobiles together rivals the yearly economy of some small countries. So, next time you see a label that reads “Made in China”, don’t worry because it’s helping keep our favorite super car companies in business.

600 rubies, a bunch of 24-carat gold, a reported 35,000 hours of labor (I call bullshit on that one) and a for sale price tag of $11-million. This is an honest-to-goodness Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren that’s been ruined by Swiss entrepreneur, Ueli Anliker, a man who possesses what is perhaps the worst taste in all of automotive history. Apparently Anliker wanted to created his vision of the perfect automobile, but instead, destroyed one of the greatest cars to come out of the auto industry in the last 20 years. I mean seriously, this sucker looks like it was build behind some bodega in the South Bronx, and then used to sell crack to some deadbeat toothless hookers. UGH!! it’s freaking me out just looking at the photo’s…

Why Ueli Anliker, why would you do this to such a wonderful automobile???

I’m not a Mercedes-Benz guy, and I never have been. Sure, its cars can be nice to look at and comfortable to be driven in, but very few of the tri-pointed star’s automobiles make my hormones sit up and beg. The exception to this rule has always been the Mercedes-Benz Black Series.

The latest Black Series car, the C63 AMG Coupe, is no exception. With 510 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque on tap, the sprint from 0 – 60 should take no more than four seconds, on your way to a governed top speed of 155 miles per hour. Only a handful will be imported into the U.S. when the car goes on sale here next March. As for the price, if you have to ask, then you’re not really a customer, are you?

Since the C63 AMG Black Series is well above my pay grade, we unwashed masses will have to make do with the video below.

They’re both German, pack more than 400 hp and look like total hoots to drive. However the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe and Audi RS5 couldn’t be more different. The Mercedes C63 for instance is a total hoonigan that’s capable of rear wheel drive powerslides that rewards its pilot with tons of tire smoking action. It’s a muscle-head for the young executive who’s into MMA fights and white water rafting on the weekends. The Audi RS5 with its stellar all-wheel drive system is more subdued and is more of a silent assassin on the streets. It’s fast and handles great, but goes about its business with very little in the way of theatrics. So, which one of these super coupes is the baddest? Fifth Gear recently got them together for a little showdown to find out the answer to that exact question.

If you’re Mercedes-Benz, you don’t sell product by showing images of parked cars and crossovers. Instead, you film your products in action, at high speeds and in high resolution. For those of us on this side of the screen, it all comes out as stunning and seamless video. For the crew involved with making the video, there’s a lot more involved than you may have considered.

After watching the video below, I’d now add “pursuit vehicle driver” to my list of all-time coolest occupations. I couldn’t be the camera guy, or the boom guy, but I could certainly be the guy behind the wheel of the chase car (or the car starring in the commercial). I wonder if there’s enough steady work to make a living at it.

Nico Rosberg: F1 star, creepy stalker dude, or both?

Being an F1 driver isn’t as easy as it looks. In addition to piloting the fastest cars on the planet for a living (while trying to not upstage your famous teammate too much), you have to be seen at all the right parties, wearing all the right clothes. Unlike rock stars, who have fixers (i.e., roadies) to arrange “dates” with groupies, F1 drivers, it appears, have to hunt down their own fans before going heels-to-Jesus.

The irony of this video is that attempting the same move at a party would likely get you maced (best case), arrested for stalking (worst case) or shot (even worse case). Racing F1 cars for Mercedes may be hard work, but it apparently has its rewards, too.
