Ever wonder what five blown and pissed off V8s running simultaneously sounds like? Ever get the urge to build a tractor with somewhere north of 10,000 horsepower? Then you’ll like the above video, courtesy of BangShift. It shows the Black Widow pulling tractor being started for an exhibition in Holland. Want to see the Black Widow in action? Read on below.
Mississippi has become the thirty ninth state banning the use of nitrous oxide to increase horsepower of cars driven on public roads. The law was enacted after the death of Trooper Steve Hood, who died during a high speed chase last May. The driver involved in the chase was later found to have a nitrous system installed in his Trans Am.
Penalties are steep, with a first offense costing between $250 and $1,000, plus up to 48 hours in jail. The law does not impact the use of nitrous oxide in competition, and it does not specify if the bottle must be removed or the system simply disabled for road use.
I’m all for keeping the roads safer, but is this an indication of things to come? If nitrous oxide kits (which produce a temporary horsepower gain) are outlawed, how long will it be before we see the same kind of bans on turbos, blowers, intakes, exhausts and ECU upgrades?
Art. The reaction to that one word can be polarizing in today’s society, depending upon your social status or political aspirations. People who attend art expositions find modernized conceptual art inspirational, meaningful, and a way for the artist to express his or her viewpoint. Other individuals revile in modern art, because they see it as a waste of time, resources, and most of all money. To those on that side of the spectrum, get ready to be reviled.

You’d think Patton tank engines were a dime a dozen the way the guys at Blastolene throw them into outrageous roadsters. This is their latest creation, the Blastolene Indy Special. It has the same 1,792ci V-12 M47 Patton tank engine as Jay Leno’s tank car, but it’s mounted in a sleek hand-formed aluminum body inspired by the Watson roadsters of the ’50s and ’60s.
The colossal engine puts out an estimated 910 horsepower and 1,500 pound-feet of torque. It’s mated to an Allison automatic bus transmission. The whole thing weights an astounding 8,400 pounds and is 22.5 feet long.
It’s undoubtedly a work of art and utterly deserving of lust.

It was only a matter of time before the huge performance potential of the Hyundai Genesis Coupe was tapped by an eager aftermarket. GReddy, the Irvine-based tuner, is releasing a bunch of Hyundai approved parts for the rear-drive sportscar, and they’ll debut on the “GReddy X-Gen Street Genesis Coupe” demonstration car at SEMA this year. The showcar, and most of the mods, focus on the 2.0L turbo model, and they’re aiming to extract 350 HP and 320 ft-lbs. of torque from the Stage 1 tune that’ll show up at the show. Later modifications should push the little coupe up beyond 500 HP. Press release and more details after the jump.
If a Lamborghini employee called me on the phone and offered me free a behind-the-scenes tour of the Sant’Agata factory, it would take me about 0.00003 seconds to say yes. Unfortunately, I’m in San Francisco and Lamborghini is located in that country shaped like a boot across the pond. Thankfully the National Geographic Channel have solved the age-old conundrum, sending the team from their series called “Ultimate Factories” off to Italy. The new episode that follows the construction (all by hand, of course) of a brand new Murciélago SV from start to finish. I secured a few short clips that speak for themselves, so make the jump for a preview of the episode (which airs October 1st on the National Geographic Channel).
Classic Porsche 911s have been in the midst of a retro-mod renaissance lately, with lots of money going into taking fuzzy, sentimental visions of grainy oversaturated ’70s awesomeness and transforming it into a real-world rolling art. R-Gruppe cars, love ‘em or hate ‘em, are the ultimate Porkers in this genre. However, Singer Vehicle Design of Los Angeles has jumped into the fray, seriously reworking an air-cooled long-wheelbase 911 into a modern performance car, doing what Porsche couldn’t (as they switched to water-cooling with the 996). As Singer puts it, “… have the evolved water-cooled 911’s proven more enjoyable? Is the drive more fulfilling? What of the magic behind the wheel?” It’s inarguable that the package Singer has put together answers all of those questions. Click through for a HUGE gallery of pics and more info.
According to several sources, Audi is purportedly giving very serious consideration to replacing their famed V10 with a turbocharged V8. Apparently, the Gallardo-derived 5.2L FSI V10 which currently powers the RS6 and the R8 V10 is too much of a gas-guzzling behemoth to hold the interest of most consumers, and Audi isn’t willing to lose money in the name of snarling performance. Offering a turbocharged version of the naturally aspirated V8 in its place would be a far more economical option for both Audi and enthusiasts, and as much as we’d be loathe to see it go, we have to admit it’s a smart choice.
ROUSH unveiled two new models recently, the aforementioned STAGE 3, and a new model dubbed the 540RH.
Now, the STAGE 3 makes use of the same hand-built 4.6L V8 used in the P-51B, except this one finds an additional 30HP by way of a massive Roush-Eaton TVS intercooled supercharger, forged aluminum pistons with an increased dish to lower the compression ratio from 9.8 to 8.6, forged steel H-Beam connecting rods and a forged steel crankshaft, new fuel rails, fuel injectors, and a remapped ECU program for a grand total of 540 ground-pounding horses. And thanks to the forged bottom end, ROUSH can offer an impressive 3 year/36,000 mile warranty to owners.
You know that even in baby-poop brown, the 2010 Audi R8 Spyder looks pretty sexy. So in motion it must be seriously hot, right? You’re damn right. This promotional video shows the Spyder drop its top and then accelerate off into some tightly cut scenes of relative excitement. Plus, you get to hear the 5.2L V10 get a little bit of a workout. It’s enough to make our hair stand on end. Hell, it’s Friday, so make the jump and watch the vid. If you crank the volume and get in trouble with your boss though, it’s not our fault.
