Decorated rally racer and DC Shoe co-founder Ken Block, one of Subaru’s most valuable assets in catapulting them to the height of their popularity, is now working for Ford. Famous for his stunning X-Games performances and Gymkhana viral videos (featured after the jump), Block’s legacy within the motorsports circuit is well known by even the most casual of fans and Ford has essentially landed themselves the golden marketing ticket.
Beyond the scores of devout broskies that worship in his wake, Block will also bring to Ford the street cred of a second-generation fanboy. “I am stoked to be rallying in a Ford. They are an impressive force in the sport,” said Ken Block. “From the days of the 1970s Escorts to the Group B RS200 to the modern-day Focus and now the Fiesta, Ford just does an excellent job at rally and I couldn’t be happier to now be part of this amazing heritage. Not to mention my dad would be proud. He was a dedicated Ford guy.”

By now, if you’re a filthy Western fan of rallying you’ve probably already heard the news that Discovery HD Theater is bringing the FIA World Rally Championship stateside for our viewing pleasure. Scheduled to kick off Sunday October 4 with a 6-hour “World Rally Madness” marathon, Discovery HD Theater will air footage from each new rally every Sunday night at 8 PM ET from October 11 through December 20, 2009. The bad news? Despite the slightly misleading nomenclature, Discovery HD Theater is not the same Discovery Channel you tune into every night for your Dirty Jobs fix, and unless you shelled out an extra arm and a leg for the Super Channel Blowout Bonanza package, you probably don’t get it. Thanks to Al Gore, though, it doesn’t matter.

It boils down to this: this Ford RS200 is a rally car you can drive on the street. Plus, it’s not in some dirty European country, it’s in California! If that description doesn’t make your naughty bits tickle, well, we don’t know how to help you. If it does, then click over to Ebay for the ad in question.

There are people who watch NASCAR and Formula 1 and WRC just for the crashes, and then there are well-adjusted people who just want to see a clean, quality, high speed race. There are people who enjoy high speed races, and there are people who enjoy high speed races and death. And fireballs.
So, in the interest of bringing the people what they want, here is an hour and half long montage of WRC crashes. Enjoy, you sick freaks. I watched it twice.

Yes, you can watch Nascar online
If you’re like us, you could spend hours in your favorite recliner (which probably reeks of Doritos and Blue Moon) watching every motorsport event from the Daytona 500 to the Baja 1000, but you really can’t afford to fork over a couple hundred dollars to your cable company for the Ultra Elite Premium Platinum Gold Star upgrade package. Well despair no longer, oh titan of the tubes, for we have found the solution to your problem, enter: the money-saving majesty of the world wide web.
Yep, it’s finally true, online TV is now a viable alternative to cable and satellite. The quality is there AND you can save money. In fact, you can often watch TV online for free with sites like Hulu. The best news is that even live sporting events are available for viewing on the web. That includes motorsports.

World champion Sebastien Loeb of France acknowledges the crowd in the service area after winning the 2009 Rally of Ireland during the trophy presentation in Sligo, Ireland, on February 1, 2009. The result was Loeb’s 48th career win and his second on the Irish round of the World Rally Championship.
This weekend, veteran racer Sebastian Loeb kicked off the 2009 FIA World Rally Championship season with a triumphant victory over Rally Ireland, the first event of the series. Successfully earning his 48th career win, Loeb finished the race on Sunday a full one minute and 27.9 seconds ahead of Citroen team-mate Dani Sordo, followed closely in third place by Ford’s Mikko Hirvonen. Although Loeb has proven a master of manipulating the asphalt, Sunday’s win did not come easily. Hampered by Ireland’s notoriously wet conditions, Loeb got off to a rocky start on Friday that ultimately lead to a conservatively (albeit winning) finish on Sunday.
