Are You a Competitor?

If you’ve ever been in any type of speed based event, then you’ll understand when I say that every second counts. Winners and losers are defined in some cases by mere milliseconds, a time frame that most think of as inconsequential. As a racer you must learn when to be aggressive, when to lay back and when to ring out every last ounce of power and skill that you possess. Racing, regardless of the type, takes vision, drive and determination and is something that not all of us excel at. Before a race you have to ask yourself one simple question – Are you willing to put everything on the line to win? If you’re answer is yes then you are a racer, but if you hesitate, even for a second, you have no business being in competition. The above video is wonderful example of the drive that it takes to be considered as a competitor.

Drag Racing Blow Over…

For those of you that have never been drag racing before, let me give you a little insight as to how it works. First you go out and either buy or build a car. Then you test it, test it and test it again to make sure everything works as it should. Then, when you’re finally ready, you take it to the strip, wait for the light to turn green and nail it. Sure that may be the uber simple version, but at least you get the idea. Today’s drag cars can make upwards of 8000 hp (not a misprint) and have the power to take a human being down the 1320 in under 5-seconds at speeds of over 300 mph. When you’re moving this quickly your margin for error decreases immensely and because of this when things go wrong they usually go wrong big. Take this run by Dennis Bailey back in October of this year for example. About half-way down the track we can all see the front end go light as the car begins to generate lift. The car is then put down, but then once again gains further lift to the point where it rotates up and over in one of the worst accidents we’ve ever seen. Thankfully Dennis Bailey survives, but man oh man, what a ride that must have been.

Sources say Audi Quattro concept may head to production.

Audi Quattro Concept

Last week at the L.A. Autoshow I was able to see the new Audi Quattro concept up close and personal. It was small and squat just like the 1985 original and in fact, takes on a few of its original design queues. A louvered hood, large rear D-pillars and stubby rear end are just a few elements that have been integrated into the new design. Standing there looking at Audi’s newest hot rod, I notice that the car had a massive crowd around it. Questions were being asked to Audi reps about power output, price and if the car would actually go into production.

This is one tough Nissan Altima!

Posted in Cars, Cool Stuff, Crash Testing, Crashes, Racing, Rally, RallyCross, Videos by MrAngry | November 21st, 2010 | 1 Response |

I always knew that Nissan’s were tough but this is ridiculous. The above video shows a very aggressive driver tail-grabbing the car in front of him during a race. The driver becomes so aggressive that he pits his competitor into the wall and in the process loses control of his vehicle, thus catching the dirt and flipping the thing ass-over tea kettle. What’s even more astonishing than this though, is that the driver doesn’t even blink an eye. Instead he adjusts his mirror and proceeds to drive the battered and beaten Altima back into the pits. Honestly, I give this guy full credit for not flinching during his roll-over, but in the end he gets a hat load of ass for pulling that BS move and taking not only himself, but a competitor out.

Travis Pastrana pokes fun at Nascar and himself…

Posted in Celebrity Cars, NASCAR, Newsworthy, Pro Athlete Cars, Racing, Rally, RallyCross, Videos by MrAngry | November 17th, 2010 | 2 Responses |

Travis Pastrana better have a good sense of humor since he’s heading right smack dabb into one of the most competitive forms of motor racing out there – NASCAR. In his new Nascar launch video, the X-games Champion and all around stunt jockey decides to poke not only a little fun at himself, but at the sport for which he’s about to enter. With “DON’T GO RIGHT” and “WHEN DO I GET TO BACK FLIP THIS THING?” emblazoned on his car, Pastrana shows that he’s definitely ready to take some good old fashion ribbing from the drivers as well as the fans when he makes his presence known during the 2011 season. It’s going to be interesting to see if Travis can transition his freestyle driving style to a sport which is much more regimented. Heathens Halloween Trail Jam – Powered by People.

Posted in Racing, RallyCross, Stunts, Videos by MrAngry | November 17th, 2010 | 1 Response |

It’s true, Halloween is indeed over, but that doesn’t stop us from longing for next years festivities. Take this group of two-wheeled people powered hoons for example. What you are viewing is the 2nd Annual Heathens Halloween Trail Jam that went down on October 9th in McElhattan, PA. It brought together some of the best BMX’ers from Pennsylvania, as well as the East Coast. These guys are simple in the fact that they just like to ride trails and have fun. Some of the jumps and stunts that are in the video look as though they belong more in the X-games than on some wooded trail in PA, but hey, all X-games athletes have to get their start somewhere right?

Pastrana’s Final Run With Subaru.

Posted in 4x4, Import, NASCAR, Newsworthy, Pro Athlete Cars, Racing, Rally, RallyCross, Stunts, Subaru by MrAngry | November 14th, 2010 | 3 Responses |

Yep, it’s true. Travis Pastrana has signed a deal with Michael Waltrip’s NASCAR team to drive in the Nationwide Series. It’s a bold move for this do-it-all competitor, but one that should surprise no one. Before hanging up his Subaru rally uniform though, Pastrana competed in rounds 3 and 4 of the U.S. Rallycross Championship on the Lightning course at New Jersey Motorsports Park. For those of you who are unaware, Rallycross is racing on a mixed variety of surfaces (dirt, tarmac and gravel) on an enclosed course in modified production based rally cars. Pastrana is an automotive personality that brings life to any genre of motor sport that he participates in, this is why I’m so curious to see how he will fare in NASCAR. I’m not sure as of yet if die-hard fans and drivers will embrace or repel Pastrana’s happy-go-lucky attitude. Time will be the deciding factor in that equation. Either way though, the above video kicks ass, so enjoy watching Pastrana as he puts on his Subaru suit one last time.

Taking the top titles at Sunday’s U.S. RallyCross were a Saab and a Ford station wagon.  No, your eyes do not deceive you!

19 year old Finnish driver, Toomas “Topi” Heikkinen, took the honors in the AWD A Main race at the last U.S. RallyCross championship event of the year in Millville, NJ.  Heikkinen piloted an Eklund Motorsport-sponsored 600 hp 2010 Saab 9-3 Aero Sport Sedan to victory over the increasingly European competition, which included the 2009 and 2010 FIA European Rallycross champion, Sverre Isachsen of Norway.

Dust to Glory: One of the Greatest Movies You’ve Never Seen.

Posted in 4x4, Movie Cars, Movies, Off-Roading, Racing, Rally, RallyCross, Videos by MrAngry | November 7th, 2010 | 1 Response |

If you’re a true petrolhead like we are than you could care less if you’re watching Formula 1, go-karts or some redneck racing a lawn tractor. Racing is racing and regardless of the machine or venue, it packs into it all the adrenaline that one could ask for. Dust to Glory is a documentary about the Baja 1000, the annual off-road race held down in Baja, Mexico. It’s a race that separates the men from the boys, as Baja is a take no prisoners challenge that takes competitors off the tarmac and into some of the harshest terrain on the planet. If this trailer doesn’t get your blood pumping then you’re either stoned or dead – hell, it’s even narrated by Dana Brown. Honestly, this is a movie that you seriously don’t want to miss…

Start Your Engines: Nascar 2011 Set to be Release 1st Qtr. 2011

Posted in General, NASCAR, Racing, Rally, RallyCross by MrAngry | October 6th, 2010 | Leave a Reply |

I’ll be honest here, Nascar is the one automotive sport that I simply have no interest in. I understand that there’s more to it than just running cars around in a circle, but from a visual standpoint (at least on TV anyway) it just doesn’t appeal to me. I will concede however that watching a race in person turns this event into a completely different ballgame. This is something that was proven to me last year as I attended the Brickyard 400. Drifting cars around a track at 180 mph is one thing, but to do it lap after lap without crashing is nothing short of astonishing. The problem however is that I can’t attend races on a regular basis, and like I said TV just doesn’t do the sport justice. This is where my XBOX 360 and Nascar 2011 comes in. Granted I know it’s virtual, but games today have become so advanced and have such amazing graphics that believe it or not, they actually fill the void. Above is the new trailer for Nascar 2011 from Activision and by the looks of it I have a feeling that I’ll be parting with $50 when this is released in the first quarter of 2011.
